Kevin Sullivan's Black Belt Karate Schools

My son has been attending Grandmaster Sullivan’s karate school for several months now and absolutely loves it. From what I see, all of the other kids in his classes love it too.



He is learning so much so quickly and is demonstrating more self-confidence and responsibility at home and at school. It has made such a difference in his ability to focus on his school assignments and homework, and he now listens very well to directions and instructions.



The grandmaster runs a very structured, positive, and encouraging environment. He communicates regular with the parents about each student’s progress. He is also always willing to take the time aside to talk with me as well as the other parents about our children’s progress and to answer specific questions that we might have.



When directing students he is very kind, positive, and consistent. When correcting behaviors he always refers to the specific behaviors that need to stop and redirects the students by encouraging positive behaviors and praising achievements. I always see all of his students focused and participating and learning so much!



One of the many great things about this karate school is the sense of community and the variety of events offered. Grandmaster Sullivan holds regular student performances where the parents can watch what their students have learned. He also holds monthly Friday training events for the kids with games, special activities, prizes, and a movie. I stayed for one of these to check it out-they are such a fantastic, fun-filled time for the kids. For example, at the last Black Friday class event, in addition to learning several self-defense moves and working on belt training, the students also worked on their writing skills. Grandmaster read them the Dr. Suess story of the Grinch, they talked about the themes in the story, and the kids made holiday cards for their parents. It was quite an educational experience for them!



I have just started the kickboxing classes. There are a range of times to choose from so that I can easily fit the classes into my schedule. I went in worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the others, however, I soon realized that everyone works towards their individual goals and encourages one another. The people that attend his kickboxing classes are so nice and I feel very at home and comfortable. The grandmaster is very enthusiastic and creates a motivating and fun environment with some serious work out routines! I leave feeling great and am already feeling stronger, more energetic, and toned.





I can definitely see that Grandmaster Sullivan is an expert at what he does, and I feel that my son is in a great program. This karate school is a fun and exciting place to be a part of! The prices are also very reasonable and affordable compared to other schools that I have seen. This has been the best thing that I have ever done for my son, and now the kickboxing classes are a great thing that I am doing for myself. Thank you Grandmaster Sullivan! You rock!!!

I did 12 years of Kung Fu practice and we tried a class with Kevin.

As the head of IT for a large area hospital and 12 years background in

Martial Arts Training my wife and I are VERY Selective and we then went and

had our son try 7 other Martial Arts Schools. We chose Kevin Sullivan's Karate

School for many reasons. We Liked everything that Kevin Teaches.

Professional, caring, polite and a great background with indepth knowledge of

the Martial Arts is what we wanted for a Teacher.

The Belt Tests at amazing to watch the progress our son and the other kids parents that we mentioned are doctors, love how Kevin preaches " What you Earn - You Get" so for any child to earn a belt rank with him is a solid achievement and the physicians mentioned to us they like it because Grandmasters strict approach to earning your belt will have their child ready for the Medical Board Exam someday!!



We are so proud of our son finally making it onto the Honor Roll and Student Government due in large part to what he learns and is motivated to achieve from all that he learns form his Karate Training.



So If you want the best traing around form someone with a real good background and great reputation that Gets Results with kids, you do not have to do what we did going to 7 other schools...... just try this place out. We Love it!!

I met Kevin Sullivan about 10 years ago when daughters were 4 and 6 he came as recommendation from a friend. Kevin has a very unique teaching style which I found refreshing. Kevin is not for the new age kindler gentler parents, he is the big dog in his dog park and let's everyone know that. Many of the children we saw come in including mine can be very intimidated by the more experienced children. He often partnered up one of them with a newbie which worked wonders. Kevin had a way of taking a young kid and bringing their very best by pushing them to believe in themselves, I saw many a child transform in a positive manner. Being a dad of girls, Kevin was especially sensitive to the young girls in the class and would often show them that they could be as tough as any of the boys in the class, and if the boys disrespected the girls in anyway, yes there would be hell to pay.. As soon as he would see any form of disrespect from any student they would be called out in front of the class.. This maybe a bully technique but I applauded it and saw it's effectiveness. For a variety reasons after about four years my girls and myself could no longer attend classes but to this day my girls still say that Kevin was probably the most effective coach they ever had and they often wished that the coaches they had now pushed them as hard to be their best. So if the measure of great teacher is someone that many year's later someone looks positively back on then Kevin was the right guy at the right time in my daughter's life.

I have attended both self-defense and cardio kickboxing classes with Kevin for many years. Over this time I have lost 30 pounds and feel comfortable defending myself. Kevin is a very motivational and inspirational instructor and provides a wonderful learning environment that is fun. I love the music, and the other students and ladies are wonderful and the atmosphere is as awesome as the classes! I would recommend the classes (and have!) to all of my friends and brought them down. If you thought you have had a karate or cardio experience, you need to have this better experience. I am super looking forward to getting toned for the beach now that I have lost my goal weight :) I love the feeling of getting healthier mind and body with the confidence building I have received from training with Kevin Sullivan.

Kevin Sullivan’s Black Belt School’s of America has been a great experience for my son. My son had very low confidence after a teacher told him he would always struggle in school so he believed it. He didn’t think he was good at anything. Since joining your school what a change I have seen. He went from being the quiet shy kid with no confidence to a more confident outgoing young man. He would struggle in math and we would sit for hours as he had such a negative attitude about it. Now it comes easier after learning to concentrate and to have a better attitude. He has jumped a full grade and is now meeting grade level expectations. He participates in school activities something he would not do before. I like that respect for others along with self discipline, self worth and teamwork are a major part of the program. Grandmaster teaches self defense but most of all he teaches them to respect family, friends and our country. He teaches them to be productive citizens in the community and to not be followers. He also teaches them to listen and focus something my son had trouble with. I definitely see a change in this area. He is more focused in school and it shows in his work. I like that in order for them to graduate to the next belt academics need to be in order as well as home life. This makes the kids try harder because they want to move up.



Grandmaster, I would like to thank you for all that you’ve done for my family. I have a more confident son who is doing much better in school. You teach these kids to push hard for what they want and to not give up because something is hard. You run a great program and I recommend it to everyone. Keep up the good work and remember YOU ROCK!! YES!! : )

A few years back, after a talk with Grandmaster Sullivan, we knew we had to sign up with his school. What attracted us the most was the schools philosophy; were good sportsmanship, leadership and character comes first. After the first year we started seeing improvements in our son’s self discipline, respect and academics. Kids learn good old fashioned values and karate skills in a fun and safe environment. They also learn how to deal with bullies and peer pressure. Again and again, GM Sullivan reminds the kids how important family is and how they can be good members of their family and society. He teaches how important education is and how to reach their full potential. Our son who was more of a follower, showed initiative and got on the student council this year. Thanks to the karate school, he has more confidence and is showing more leadership skills. For us as parents, it is good to know that Grandmaster has our backs if we have an issue and nothing works. He knows how to work with kids and really enjoys his work.

As a parent I have an opportunity to be an example for my son by taking the adult class. If I see a lack of motivation in my son, I need to say only one sentence: “I’m only one belt away from you”. Next thing you know he’s back in class and working hard:) On top of that, I get a great workout and learn self defense in fun, dynamic class.

Open Letter From Kevin Sullivan,



I would like to thank all of the Parents, Students, Teachers, Doctors, Police Officers, Military Personnel, Veterans, Fellow Martial Artists, Colleges, and others, that I have had the pleasure of providing training for. I have learned a lot about life from them and I am eternally grateful for their rock solid support.



I'm aware of some of the made up declarations about me that appear on the Internet and in reviews posted by known persons as well as many anonymous unknown persons. I've seen some of them. Some are funny. Some are pretty far out there. Some I would not dignify with a response. Being more a student of the Martial Arts and a positive lifestyle, than the wild, wild web-world of the Internet, I'm not quite sure what to make of it all. It's quite surprising.



I do know that boys will be boys and you can’t please everyone. I neither take offense nor do I take these things too seriously. Who knows, maybe these made up declarations will lead people to seek out the real facts, as found in my recently updated website’s Testimonial Recommendation Letters, Awards, Citations, Thank You Letters, Championship Titles that I won in NASKA and KRANE Tournament Competitions as well as, the Photos. Meeting me in person is a great option and you can see the originals of any letters, awards or photos. I look forward to meeting anyone interested. I'm very proud of these accomplishments and the efforts of other people putting their name on the record and department’s with their endorsement of me, and my teachings.

My husband and I are very proud parents of two children that attend Kevin Sullivan’s Black Belt School. When we first met Kevin we were so impressed with the importance he places on respect, family, country, and faith. At first we only enrolled our 5 year old son…little did we know just by watching the classes our little 2 year old would also fall in love with the program. For months our son attended class and for months we were continually impressed with Kevin’s teaching style, and the results we were getting with our son. Our son was not only learning karate moves and self defense strategies but more importantly he was learning life lessons. He was learning to respect and encourage others, he was learning to respect his elders and teachers, and the best part was that he was having a BLAST doing it. Kevin makes class a perfect blend of learning and fun. After a few months of watching my son, my 2 year old daughter who barely speaks in full sentences was found in her room reciting the full Kota that the students learned in class complete with kicks and punches. She would beg to go to Karate class with her brother and we finally enrolled her. She has also reaped all the benefits of class and has really found her strong, focused little self. We love that in order to test into a new belt category a student not only needs to be able to do Karate but must also prove that they are being a good family member, a good friend, and a good academic student. Kevin’s students will leave his instruction as well rounded, respectful, independent members of their families, schools, and ultimately society as a whole.

Kevin Sullivan's Black Belt Schools of America has been an important part of a remarkable change in my daughter's life. She has gone from being a student who had problems focusing, so that the normal classroom environment was too distracting for her to learn to read and solve math problems to one who is meeting or exceeding grade level expectations in almost all areas of her schoolwork. A year ago, she did not want to be involved in any extracurricular activities (even though she showed high levels of ability in dance and gymnastics) because she did not want to perform in front of people. Shy. Now, not even a year later, she can't wait for parent viewing nights in her karate class, is a member of the student council, and is known in our neighborhood as "the Mayor", for her friendly ways. Of course, some of the change can be attributed to normal maturation, but the continuity and personalized attention she gets from Grandmaster Sullivan's program is unique and effective.



Discipline and respect are carefully cultivated in Grandmaster's dojo, as much as fun and love of Karate. No two classes are ever the same, as one day the students might be running and doing calisthenics, or, the next class, they might focus on leadership skills. Every class my daughter has attended has offered her a good balance of karate technique and philosophy. From the very beginning, to this day, my daughter is so excited to attend karate class, her interest and determination has not waned a bit!



The most important benefit we've recieved, though is the boost in my daughter's self confidence. If there's anything outside of karate class that is a challenge to her, all I have to do is remind her of her accomplishments in karate to remind her of what she can do. She cannot argue with the fact that she could only do a few push ups when she started karate, but can now do more than some of her older brother's friends. She also has experienced, first hand, how discipline and tenacity have benefitted her in and out of the dojo.



Looking back, I cannot imagine how these past months would have turned out for my daughter, had we not enrolled her in Kevin Sullivan's school. She has come so far, and now has more of the tools she needs to go even further.
