Most of the time you can call to schedule an appointment with a chiropractic office and be seen within a day or two. Many of the primary care doctors refer their patients to chiropractors and vice versa. Our doctors at Smart Pain Solutions frequently refer our patients to other pain management professionals if we believe the patient needs further evaluation. This may include the use of MRIs, a referral to a physical therapist, or requesting a second opinion from a spine surgeon.

There is an abundance of reasons one may bring their child in for chiropractic care, including asthma, colic, chronic colds, ear infections, and bedwetting, just to name a few. Now don’t hear this wrong, no one is claiming to “cure” any of these issues, but they are all conditions that have been known to respond to chiropractic care. Chiropractic physicians have their doctorates in chiropractic. This is different from a medical doctor or an academic doctorate at a university. Patients can be co-managed with chiropractors and other healthcare professionals at the same time. Chiropractors can order MRIs and send referrals to other pain specialists. Because chiropractors treat the spine, they often work closely with other doctors in healthcare whose focus is on more organ system-related conditions. That includes primary care physicians (PCP’s) or Internal Medicine doctors. MRI
Progressive arthritis can lead to more a more serious conditions like spinal stenosis. This is when the nerve pathways of the spine have become occluded by the bony spurs that developed over time. An indication of this can be pain, as well as numbness and tingling or “shooting” down the arm or leg. This condition is often manageable early on with proper treatment such as chiropractic and exercises. A good initial screening for arthritis is an x-ray. When weakness develops, an MRI and surgical consultation is most likely the next step of care.
