The Washington Sports Medicine Institute was established by Aligned Orthopedic Partners as a Center of Excellence in sports medicine. Operating as a division of OrthoBethesda, our team of world-class physicians provides surgical & non-surgical orthopedic sports medicine care, as well as services in all orthopedic sub-specialty areas. The team consists of fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, a physiatrist, and sports physical therapists. The orthopedic surgeons are fellowship-trained in sports medicine (shoulder, elbow, knee, & hip disorders) and additionally specialize in pediatric and adolescent sports injuries and fracture care. The practice offers x-ray, ultrasound, and therapy services and is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Late last year, I was told I would need knee surgery. I visited Dr. O’Brien, and he examined the MRI and concluded that all I needed was PT. He was right! I had one steroid injection and PT and now walk 5 miles with no knee problems. THANK YOU for your good advice and a conservative approach. You are seriously good!

Craig A. Miller, MD joined OrthoBethesda as our second sports medicine, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon. A graduate of Tufts University, where he also played football, he then attended George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. where he graduated with honors. Dr. Miller completed an internship in general surgery at the New York University Medical Center and an orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute in New York. He then went on to complete advanced fellowship training in sports medicine at the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California. Since 2008, Dr. Miller has been an assistant team physician for the Washington Nationals.

Raymond Thal, MD joined OrthoBethesda’s Arlington office, in Suite 180 of Virginia Hospital Center, as a Sports Medicine Specialist, specifically specializing in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, and elbow. Originally from Commack, New York, Dr. Thal earned his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 1984 followed by an internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery. Following his orthopaedic training, he completed a 1-year subspecialty fellowship program in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the Orthopaedic Research of Virginia in Richmond.
Pinched Nerve
Came to get urgent help with a painful pinched nerve in my neck. Dr. Fisch diagnosed the problem accurately after thorough exam & x-ray.
