The Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), formerly known as the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, was created by the Civil Act of 1950. The agency offers assistance to prevent and respond to various natural disasters, including floods, tornados, droughts, earthquake and thunderstorm. It develops database and reports to make statistics on weather-related deaths, injuries and damage estimates. The Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness provides various types of courses to prepare local and state response personnel and agencies for handling mass fatalities. In addition, the agency organizes training sessions to offer instruction on the prevention and deterrence of chemical and biological agents, radiological materials and explosives. It works in accordance with several disaster recovery plans. The Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness releases state public information through emergency alert and warning systems.
