I contracted with Llewelyn Builders (aka Cape Wide Construction) to remodel the kitchen in my circa 1885 home. I met with Mr. Llewelyn and his wife to discuss the project and signed the agreement in July 2007. The project started in early October 2007 and was expected to take about 6 weeks to complete. The kitchen was designed by Cabinet Resource (owned by Mr. Charlie Deems then later sold to Mrs. Jan Llewelyn). Activity was sporadic and seemed to only start up again after numerous phone calls (that were almost never returned) and multiple emails. The original set of cabinets did not fit and several more had to be ordered, which took another 6 weeks to arrive. Other cabinet problems developed and had to be resolved directly by the factory (Tedd Wood ? they were excellent). The work was finally completed in July 2008, almost 10 months after it started. The project seemed to lack oversight and guidance, which would have prevented the initial cabinet issues, saved money, and kept the remodel on schedule. During the project, I found it necessary to provide the craftsman with detailed instructions because I had little direct contact with Mr. Llewelyn (although email was used).
On a positive note, the remodel looks great but has taken much longer than expected. The workers were very helpful and willing to do as asked. They also provided some great ideas to improve the outcome.
