Murphy's Auto Care Center
Murphy's Auto was refered to me by another shop because of their professionalism,so I took a chance. The shop "could have" told me all kinds of things were wrong because the problem was electrical but they didn't. A simple battery cable was replaced & done, mind you the tow company, not there's,charged me $100 dollars just for a 10 mile tow. Murphy's did not even charge me for the part, after paying for the services my battery was dead,"not their fault,it was sitting in -10 degree weather",within seconds a tech came out & got my car running, then my tire was low so I asked AGAIN for some help. Overly helpfull,no "attitude"& mind you this was at closing time for the shop. My car is fixed & I am not a hot female,37 yr. old man that is very happy with this company,....."I'll be back!"

Excellent service. Dave was the brother I could trust. His gifting in the automotive mechanical realm, career as a BMW mechanic instructor at the Universal Technical Institute in Arizona, and experience in the field shows so clearly in the understanding of his craft that he displays. But I simply haven't met a mechanic who possesses the character that Dave has. On top of all his qualifications as a skilled tradesman, his humility, integrity, and servant's heart makes it easy for me to do business with him. I know from first and second-hand experience that Dave does his best persistently and diligently while communicating with his clientele with their interest in mind. Thanks for all you did here in AZ, Dave. Miss you, brother. Vehicle: 1999 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner

Wasilla Lube Express
We had an emergency with our brakes on the way home to Fairbanks (which is 300 miles away), and it was about 4:30 in the afternoon. We were in a hurry to get them fixed, and after trying 3 different places we came here and they got us in right away, fixed our problem, and we were on the road right away. So happy that they could help us! And extra points for letting us bring our dog inside while we waited!

Gearhead Repair
Was leaving a campground when a bolt on one of the states speed bumps caught my muffler's heat shield. Suddenly it was dragging and the end of our wonderful camping trip seemed imminent. Found gearhead on highway. They quickly put on the rack, found the problem, and fixed it in a matter of mins. Free of charge! True Alaskans. Thank you gearhead for saving our family camping trip

Cruisers Only
Mark was a very interesting guy with a ton of knowledge. Great guy to talk with, fair prices and he'll even teach you stuff if you want to learn. I'm headed back to this guy with any other problems I have with my Land Cruiser (FJ80). The guy has been working on them for over 20 years and it shows.

In all honesty, $180 for eight spark plugs is not bad. Also, if you're buying a car and you don't look at the title yourself (it's indicated RIGHT ON IT whether it's reconstructed/salvaged), you're an idiot. Was that all??

Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
