I was quite pleased. $32/dozen isn't cheap, but these are most excellent cupcakes. We got there at 4 on a Saturday and waited maybe 15 minutes. Tried the red velvet and cookies and cream. Both great. Kids had assorted flavors and loved them all. A secret is to follow their Twitter. They post flavors of the day that aren't on the menu (vanilla sunshine was all gone unfortunately) and sometimes those specific flavors are free. A great treat every once in a while.

  • The Famous Cupcake?
    Krista Lundberg

After wanting to try the famous Georgetown cupcakes for quite a while, I finally made my move this weekend. I sent someone else to stand in line so that I could enjoy the cupcake without any frustrations of waiting 1 hour for this delectable treat. I have to say maybe it was the type of cupcake I tried, or maybe it was the high hopes I set for Georgetown cupcakes, but I was not as impressed as I had hoped for. Don't get me wrong, they are by far very delicious, but I have to say, thus far they are not my favorite. I will however, go back to try another flavor and give them a second chance!

  • BEST chocolate cupcakes!

Okay, okay, the lines are insane but if you have the time, it is worth the wait. My favorites are the Lava Fudge and the Chocolate 2. Another piece of advice: eat the cupcake to-go. For some reason these cupcakes don't hold up very well and a few hours after purchasing them, they don't taste as good or as fresh.

I can't say I'm one of those folks who've jumped on the Georgetown Cupcake bandwagon, but I like their stuff. Georgetown Cupcake's confections are just the right size and at a good price too, at $2.75 a pop (which is cheaper than most cupcakeries in DC). I'm a fan of their chocolate ganache cupcake and their red velvet, both of which are perfectly sweet and rich without being too heavy. I've enjoyed some of their more unique flavors, like white chocolate raspberry, which has bits of raspberry and white chocolate chips in the cake and is topped by good dollop of buttercream frosting. I have had sub-par cupcakes here on occasion, either the cake was too dry or I just wasn't a fan of the overly sugary frosting. Their locations are a bit out of the way for many, since they're on M St. in Georgetown (where there's no metro) and in Bethesda (which can be a pain to get to). Shopkeepers taking your order here can sometimes be on the standoffish side as well but you only have to deal with them for a minute or two as you order.

  • Cupcakes!

The flavors are unique and change daily, like Chocolate Lava, Strawberry Cheesecake and Honey Banana. As far as cupcakes go, they're absolutely fantastic. Most of the frosting is cream cheese, and its generously distributed!

I went right at 10am on a weekday when it opened with my friend, and we got some serious attitude form the girl behind the register. Despited this, we still loved the place. It's a small place, great to go with a friend or two, but would be overwhelmed by a big group.

Georgetown cupcakes also has a spread of coffee drinks, and I much prefer their regular brew to Starbucks' charred grounds.
