In the summer and on weekends, there's such a commodity for seating and service that there's this constant frenzied feel with young bus boys trying to snatch your plates before you're finished and waiters prematurely laying on the check to get you up and out. \r \r The fact that Cava is one of the only restaurants with good food on Barracks Row has kept me coming back to endure the cattle call a few times to get my fill. \r \r It wasn't until tonight, on my third visit, that I was completely satisfied with the experience as a whole because the restaurant was desolate, letting us take in the food and good company for a while.\r \r The three times we've been here, we've gravitated toward the Chicken Souvlaki, which has proven to be a tasty staple. Although they say to order two to three plates per person, we usually order three to split between two people and always end up contently full without being stuffed. \r \r Despite walking away feeling good about Cava, it hurts me a little to promote this place because it's almost too trendy, too popular -- like the pretty girl who knows it's so -- I don't want to scream raves of Cava form the mountain tops because they do so themselves

One of the best dining experiences I've ever had was at Komi. I had called 3 weeks in advance to make a reservation to celebrate my cousin's graduation, however, they were completely booked. I didn't realize you have to call exactly one month in advance to land a reservation or else cross your fingers that you'll get off the waitlist. I ended up putting my name on the waitlist and SQUEALED when they called to tell me that a table opened up for 7pm the next evening. \r \r The setting was very intimate as there were no more than 25 diners at a time and the decor was pretty simple. Some diners were dressed casually in jeans while other couples were dressed to the nines. There is only one menu consisting of about 10 or so small plates, a pasta dish, main course, a cheese course, and 3 or 4 dessert courses. \r \r Much to my delight, the beginning of the meal was very seafoodie (excuse my lack for a better word). Memorable small plates were the sashimi trio, a freshly warm bite-sized brioche bun topped with creme fraiche and salmon caviar, pork belly skewers, and grilled octupus, which had a great char. The pasta dish wasn't mindblowing but the noodles did taste very fresh. The main dish was a huge plate of goat to share with warm pita and a side of condiments. I had never had goat before but was pleasantly surprised at how tender and flavorful it was. By this point we were stuffed but of course we had to make room for dessert. The dessert that stood out was the deconstructed ""frozen baklava"" that came with walnut ice cream. \r \r The service was excellent. We must have had about 6 or 7 different servers who were very friendly and knowledgeable about the courses. At $125 per person, Komi is by no means a cheap eat, but it is a ""value"" for all the food you get compared to other fancy tasting rooms in the area. This is the place to go if you have a special occasion, want an intimate dinner, or simply just love food.

If your idea of a Greek restaurant is gyros, spanikopita, and mousaka, get ready for a decidedly upscale -- though not terribly up-priced -- Greek dining experience. Mourayo specializes in seafood so be sure to try one of their fabulous fish selections. I especially like salt fish -- a good meaty fish of the day, encased in rock salt for baking, then brought to your table where the salt casing is cracked open and succulent slabs of perfectly cooked meat are separated from their bones and laid on your plate. It's not just delicious, it's fun to watch. The squid ink soup is appropriately rich and tasty, and anything wrapped in phylo will be worth sampling. The wait staff is happy to describe not only your dish but also the history of it in Greece. I even learned a few phrases in Greek from one delightful waiter. Highly recommended (reservations recommended on weekends especially).
