Zimmer & Lewis
Ms. Lewis was assigned as the law guardian for my two daughters through a very difficult divorce. In my opinion, she was very difficult to work with, came across as extremely arrogant and even threatening at one point. I don't feel that she gave much consideration to my input and it is my opinion that, ultimately, the only person to benefit from her involvement in the divorce was her. If you are a guy (military, first responder, active/reserve/guard/retired/separated) going through divorce in the Virginia Beach area and a law guardian is necessary in your case, I would highly recommend insisting she not be involved in any way in your case.

Big bills, no results!! Sloppy team, unorganized and slow but fast to run up bills for no reason. Difficult to work with.

Tiffany & Tiffany PLLC
Took me forever to get someone to answer the phone. Then when the lady finally did answer, she interrupted me as I was saying good afternoon and put me straight on hold. During our conversation she kept putting me on hold and was very rude. She actually was laughing at me as I spoke. Very disrespectful and rude. They also don't apparently read the documentation they send. I was supposed to receive specific documentation that they promised to send me. It never came. They claimed they didn't send it because I didn't specifically request it. Their own original letter said they would send it automatically. DUH! Such incompetence!

Hadley Law, PLC
Ms. Hadley and her staff were truly amazing in clearing me of all charges and getting my record expunged as well as getting a mutual no contact order signed by the other party. Ms. Hadley defended me against not only one but two lawyers (one being the Common Wealth attorney) and won. Due to her quick thinking and methodical line of questioning she was able to catch the other party in multiple lies in court. It has been a real pleasure watching Ms. Hadley and her staff work, every interaction I have had with Hadley Law Firm has been Professional, and very pleasant; They are extremely detail oriented, hard working and explained everything to me. I did not feel pressured or coerced at any point during my legal ordeal.I HIGHLY recommend Hadley Law, PLC and I can personally vouch and have endorsed with everyone and anyone looking for an AMAZING Lawyer and a great staff. Thanks to Hadley Law, PLC I am able to continue serving in the military.

Anytime you need to hire an attorney for whatever reason it is usually not good news, knowing you have someone on your side that is there to help you is a necessity! I did come across Kristin by accident, I was frantically looking for help for an issue with my son, I knew the moment I spoke to her over the phone and set up my consultation interview that I was going to hire her. Mother’s instinct told me this was the only attorney I would trust my son’s welfare to. From the start I was impressed with Kristin’s knowledge and help, she went above and beyond, by helping me with the school system and the requirements that he had to complete as part of his infraction.Throughout everything she presented me all the information and gave me all the options and the possible outcomes, then isolated it down to what the most likely outcome would be, this combination made me comfortable and involved but not overwhelmed. Kristin is the only attorney I would ever use or recommend.
Tips & Advices
When it comes time to choose a lawyer, you should start by searching close to home. If you do have attorneys you are familiar with, ask who they believe would be best for you. After going through personal references - especially from individuals who had similar needs - you should broaden your search through public information resources. You can call your area's attorney referral service or check legal organizations like Martindale-Hubbell. There are other resources available online, such as yellowpages.com. You can check websites for client reviews and other third-party forms of approval.
If you sign documents and you come across a word you don't recognize, or you need help to navigate important employment or real estate paperwork. Also, during times when personal matters intersect with legal proceedings, you might need to have an advocate to prevent your emotions from getting in the way. If you've been accused of a crime or are in a terrible financial situation, you can find an attorney who will work with what you have available.
When you hire a lawyer, you're agreeing to work with someone over a certain period of time. The more forthcoming the lawyer appears to be with individual needs, the better.
  • You need to ask questions about how the attorney will communicate with you and what responsibilities you hold in the relationship.
  • The attorney should let you know the best channel for quick communication and you need to inform him or her when you want updates.
  • You should also ask questions to get to know the attorney as an individual in order to ensure this is a person you can trust. Ask about their legal philosophy and how he or she views the lawyer/client relationship. Ask as how to keep fees down or what daily disruptions you should expect from a long legal battle.
You need to ask about every possible fee that will come up when working with an attorney. You should request a list of all costs in advance so you won't be surprised by additional expenses like overhead. Also determine exactly when you will start being billed. You want to inspect paperwork carefully. If the attorney charges you for his or her experience, you need to make sure he or she will perform tasks personally and not hand it off to an assistant. Find out if the attorney has a flat fee or charges by the hour. Many civil lawyers work on contingency. Make inquiries about how the lawyer plans to provide service for your money and what you can do if you start to feel unsatisfied with his or her performance.
You can ask how many similar cases they have handled and if they have special skills or training that applies specifically to your needs. Lawyers can't mention clients by name, but you should ask for basic details about identical past cases. You should check their office for the appropriate certifications and diplomas. You can also ask how long he or she has practiced law and request information that demonstrates the practice's success. Look for precise details such as percentage of cases settled out of court.
