If you need an awesome, ethical, honest, and cost effective attorney who is an advocate for the average lay person, then Doug Michie is the attorney you want to represent you!!! First, you will benefit greatly from Doug's years of experience which translate into an acute perception of what is truly going on in your case. Second, Doug is accustomed to standing up to bullies of every size and nature, including large corporate entities such as the banks and knows how to achieve results. Third, Doug is very hands on which means that he personally handles your matter and is intimately familiar with your case (no, he does not just collect your payment, assign your case to another attorney, and send you monthly bills). Fourth, Doug is personable, down-to-earth, and pleasurable to communicate with. Fifth, Doug will present you with viable options to choose from in order that you may be in charge of your case and elect how you wish to proceed. Sixth, Doug is cost effective every step of the way -- i.e., he is aware that you work hard for your money and, with that in mind, provides services at very reasonable rates; now I am not saying that legal representation comes cheap, but Doug's years of experience translate into the reasonable expenditure of attorney time on your matter and the cost-conscientious selection of vendors (e.g., attorney services, process servers, etc.), where necessary. Seventh, Doug is selective about the clients he represents and will take on even the most challenging of cases (e.g., even those in which the chances of prevailing are small); i.e., he does not accept every case that comes his way so that his caseload becomes unmanageable and he is unable to be responsive to your needs, nor is he deterred from representing a client because their matter is difficult and they are likely to lose. Eighth, Doug is a long-standing and well-connected member of the Ventura County community. Ninth, Doug achieved quick results representing me in my legal matter against a HOA that is bullying and harassing its tenant-residents for the sheer joy of fulfilling their power trip in total and utter disregard of the laws of the United States of America, the State of California, and its CC&R’s. Ninth, I have worked with other attorneys in the past and, I can honestly say that Doug is the best I have worked with in every sense of the word – i.e., in terms of his knowledge, experience, accessibility and responsiveness, and results. CONCLUSION: For all of these reasons, Doug Michie is given my highest accolades and recommendation!!!!

Susan J Salehi Law Office
We started a Chapter 13 with Susan Salehi almost four yars ago, we still have one more year to make payments. She was a lifesaver - answered our questions and made a really confusing process easier for us. We own a business here locally so this not our real name but if you are having problems like we were, you should do yourself a favor and go see Susan Salehi. She helped us get caught up on our house payments, got rid of our second mortgage completely, we are almost caught up on our pastdue taxes and are keeping our business. It has been hard, but if we run into a problem, we know that all wehave to do is call her or send her an email and she will get right back to us. We had to make changes to our plan last year after our business hit a slow period. After we got her the information she needed, the payment was lowered, there were extra attorney fees for changing our plan, but she gave us a really good rate and they became part of the new plan payment - there was no out of pocket expense to us which was really a relief. We had gone to another attorney before we filed, and were told all we could do was file a Chapter 7 and lose everything. He never even told us about a Chapter 13. We would recommend Susan Salehi to anything who needs a bankruptcy. We have reffered several friends and family members to her and they are all very satisfied.

Law Offices Of John Negley
There’s no better lawyer to represent you than John Negley. Like most people, I approached my particular case in family law with a lot of anxiety, trepidation, and uncertainty. After listening to family members’ and friends’ bad advice and their poor and contradictory understanding of the law, I was given John’s name by an associate. The moment I walked into his office, I knew he would represent me. John set me at ease, he explained the process, he briefed me on family law, he advised me of possible outcomes, and was honest and clear in his assessment of my situation. It’s obvious that John has a passion for what he does, and it shows in his thorough understanding of family law, his attention to detail, and his compassionate and considerate demeanor. In the end, I know I got the best possible outcome and I am beyond satisfied with the result. John’s representation made all the difference. Thank you, I cannot say it enough times.

My experience with Doug Michie has been really phenomenal. He helped me out of an experience that I hope I never have to go through again. Wells Fargo Bank illegally foreclosed on my home. When I went to Doug I thought it was a lost cause but I needed to try to save my family home. Doug was there with me every step of the way and got right on the procedures needed to stop the bank from proceeding with the eviction and foreclosure. Within 2 months I had a loan modification and a fixed rate and a lower percentage. It was scary but Doug Michie stuck by me and we were victorious. I highly recommend him to anyone that is in trouble. His experience and expertise were greatly appreciated.

Doug Michie is a strong consumer advocate and expert real estate attorney. He assisted to prevent a foreclosure on my home and a loan mod with a principal reduction and lower interest rate. He prevented another attorney from extorting a trust fund and personally delivered a check to my home to prevent retirement funds from being exposed to a distribution task. He managed a refund from another lawyer who failed to perform. He has earned my respect, trust and gratitude. He has my highest recommendation

Law Offices of Kirk J Grossman
My goal was to sell a property I co-owned with a family member who had been totally unresponsive to my requests to do so. I was very apprehensive when I contacted Kirk. He understood my touchy situation completely and I was put at ease immediately. Thanks to Kirk's expertise and sensitivity my goal was accomplished very quickly and was affordable. Kirk was HIGHLY recommended to me by a friend who is very successful in the real estate business. Now I'm HIGHLY recommending Kirk to you!

Law Office Of Matt Bromund
Great law firm. One of the best if not the best. He assisted a Client with her case. Something other firms in Ventura county could not do. I recommend Bromund to anyone who wants a guy who knows what he is doing.

Tips & Advices
When it comes time to choose a lawyer, you should start by searching close to home. If you do have attorneys you are familiar with, ask who they believe would be best for you. After going through personal references - especially from individuals who had similar needs - you should broaden your search through public information resources. You can call your area's attorney referral service or check legal organizations like Martindale-Hubbell. There are other resources available online, such as You can check websites for client reviews and other third-party forms of approval.
If you sign documents and you come across a word you don't recognize, or you need help to navigate important employment or real estate paperwork. Also, during times when personal matters intersect with legal proceedings, you might need to have an advocate to prevent your emotions from getting in the way. If you've been accused of a crime or are in a terrible financial situation, you can find an attorney who will work with what you have available.
When you hire a lawyer, you're agreeing to work with someone over a certain period of time. The more forthcoming the lawyer appears to be with individual needs, the better.
  • You need to ask questions about how the attorney will communicate with you and what responsibilities you hold in the relationship.
  • The attorney should let you know the best channel for quick communication and you need to inform him or her when you want updates.
  • You should also ask questions to get to know the attorney as an individual in order to ensure this is a person you can trust. Ask about their legal philosophy and how he or she views the lawyer/client relationship. Ask as how to keep fees down or what daily disruptions you should expect from a long legal battle.
You need to ask about every possible fee that will come up when working with an attorney. You should request a list of all costs in advance so you won't be surprised by additional expenses like overhead. Also determine exactly when you will start being billed. You want to inspect paperwork carefully. If the attorney charges you for his or her experience, you need to make sure he or she will perform tasks personally and not hand it off to an assistant. Find out if the attorney has a flat fee or charges by the hour. Many civil lawyers work on contingency. Make inquiries about how the lawyer plans to provide service for your money and what you can do if you start to feel unsatisfied with his or her performance.
You can ask how many similar cases they have handled and if they have special skills or training that applies specifically to your needs. Lawyers can't mention clients by name, but you should ask for basic details about identical past cases. You should check their office for the appropriate certifications and diplomas. You can also ask how long he or she has practiced law and request information that demonstrates the practice's success. Look for precise details such as percentage of cases settled out of court.
