While sitting in my car looking for a new Chinese place to try in the area where I am new to I come across this menu & what looks to be a great new Chinese place I want to NOW definitely try & give mulhole or whatever his name is just a comment and I know he wrote that in 2008 & I'm sure many great places have had to serve him unfortunately I just wonder if he realize s like the rest of do find his comment pathetic overboard and I'm surprised in his version he wasn't taken straight from there via ambulance to have his stomach pumped.. The hard work that goes int o building a place and making a menu and I have never met these people not in the business I don't right reviews ( I should) I am just so sick of the countless jerks that think they could write something that bad .. My point he has had 8 years to man up be a man and say u know what I was really harsh on that place but No instead the owner has to sit and be reminded of that jackass everyday I really most of all hope the wife has moved on to more positive less embarrassing men .. I have never answered a review and I have never felt better now I'm off to eat some great Chinese Food...
This is in response to the person below (Mullinsworld). I will give myself a 4 star rating because my average right now is 4 1/2 stars.
I remember this man. He came in with his wife and ordered a appetizer sampler plate along with two main entrees. They seemed like regular customers, enjoying their meal, until they got up to leave. Nothing indicated that they were unhappy with their meal. The man approached me after they finsined their dinner and told me ""everything here is horrible"". Sometimes dishes are made incorrectly but never have I been told ""everything is horrible"". This is a family owned restaurant and we have been doing this for generations. We have four locations with one in Taiwan. This comment was insulting and untrue. While I was checking in the kitchen on what he had ordered, his wife was convincing him to drop it and leave. She seemed to be embarrassed. When I checked on his ""horrible"" dishes they had eaten all their appetizers, all of one entree and half of their second entree. When I asked why they ate most of the food his response was ""we wanted to try a little of everything"". If a customer is unhappy with their food it is best to mention it shortly after trying it and not when you finish it. I will gladly replace the dish or take it off the check. Just do it in a timely manner and not when you have finished all or most of the food.
Yes I did say ""we have always cooked it like this"" because that is the truth. These recipes go back for decades and the more authentic chinese dishes go back for generations. It has been good enough for royalty, Hollywood actors (real ones), profesional athletes (tennis, mlb, nfl, nhl...), politicians (current and past, from Presidents to ambassadors), generals and the list goes on.
I welcome anyone to write an honest review. If you choose not to write one, you can always look at past reviews done by OC Weekly and The Orange County Register.
Anyone who eats here and calls this even food much less good Chinese food has had their taste buds removed. The appetizers were something you would buy at Smart & Final, the dipping sauce was ketchup with some sugar and salt & the entrees were like eating grisly shoe leather which had been pickled in vinegar for a few years.
If this is one of the best in Orange County, I would recommend not to eat Chinese in OC. After only a few bites we felt ill and had to go home and gargle with strong mouthwash to get the foul taste out of our mouth. I really cannot express how bad this was.
To top it all off when we complained the owner defended his cuisine stating ""we have always cooked it like this"". I suggest that they go to Chinatown in LA or SF and find some real Chinese food, they clearly don't know what it is.
DON'T EAT HERE ---- you have been warned.
When the Lotus Cafe, a vegan chinese restaurant in Orange, closed down I was pretty bummed. They had great food and amazing service. Well, I happened to stumble into China Palace on accident and it turns out that its run by the same owner. When we ordered a couple vegetable dishes, they related that they had some soy meat for their vegan customers if we preferred. Hell yes! I was happy to find that the food is just as delicious as I remember accept now they serve vegans and meat eaters alike. Sounds good to me and tastes even better!
I've been a resident of Irvine for many years, and China Palace Restaurant has always been my favorite Chinese Restaurant. The classical music, the beautiful Chinese decor, and the added banquet room creates the perfect atmosphere for any type of party (Graduation, Wedding, etc.). When I first moved to the area, I was reluctant at entering the restaurant because of the beautiful Chinese architecture. I thought ""that place must be expensive"", but after ""taking a chance"", I was surprised at how reasonable the prices were. I have never seen a Chinese restaurant so well mantained. Make sure you order their Kung Pao Chicken. Once you've tasted their version, you will never enjoy this dish at any other restaurant. This place is Highly Recommended. This is family run, so its a pleasant change from those corporate PF Chang types. Highly Recommended!
