Greenshield Pest Control of Tucson, LLC
I am so pleased with the service we have received from Green Shield Pest Control! I did my research when looking for a pest control company, and Green Shield was one of the very few that guaranteed their work against spiders (which are my arch nemesis). Marquise Atencio is our service technician and we cannot say enough good things about him. He's very attentive to listening to the issues we have around our property and very good at giving me all the options on how we can treat something. Before he leaves he always shows me what he's done and where while explaining the process too. He's very adamant about making sure we're happy (and we are!) and that we're in the know about our service. He's always available to be reached if we have questions at any time which is great! I cannot recommend him enough- nice guy and someone I was totally comfortable with having in and around my home (we've been with other companies where that was NOT the case). Our experience with Marquise and Green Shield have always been positive- we're happy customers and look forward to being for a long time to come!

Mike Midkiff, our technician, knows his stuff and is great to work with. He will make sure your home is as pest-free as possible here in Tucson (not an easy thing keeping homes pest-free in Tucson as we all know). Greenshield is prompt and makes sure we are a happy customer.

Jeri and Cody have been the technicians that have treated my home. Both are very thorough, take the time to explain their process, and the results - a bug free, insect free home inside and out.

I have chemical sensitivities - and this is the only company that services Sierra Vista that is as "green" as it can get, but yet take care of the pests - despite our abnormally intense ant activity. I'm in new construction, so the activity is high - one treatment and the death toll was high. :) The 30 day re-apply didn't need much - even saw the proof that the friendly new lizard resident was not killed - It did get stuck in one of the garage sticky traps, but our regular, Marquise, was very compassionate and showed me how to remove it without injury using oil. I was warned when they were coming and reassured of ways to ensure that I could be there (or not) when they arrived. Marquise and the original "sales" representative were professional, very courteous, and thorough - and put up with all of my many questions with pleasure. I did have a misconception - probably due to my lack of sleep (new move-in). I was under the impression that the 30 day re-apply was gratis/free - included in the original spray, but understand the need to charge that. :) I didn't realize that it was a full re-treatment - I did know that it was for eggs and such. Still, despite the specialty green application this is the same price that I was paying 5 years ago in Washington State (western) for; I believe; the same treatment level. - I like their contractual options too - we plan to stay, so why not commit to a bit longer and get the best deal. :)

5 Star Termite & Pest Control
My experience with 5 Star has been very different than the other reviewers. When I first bought my old adobe house, I called a couple of exterminators to learn what my options were. Most wanted to tent my whole house - not an option I wanted to pursue. The 5 Star owner did an inspection and did not find active termites. She explained termites require a certain percent of moisture in wood and since my house was old, the risk of termite destruction was low. She gave me tips on how to minimize risk (install gutters, no landscaping next to house, removing wood, mesquite beans from yard etc.). For more than a decade, I had no termites. In 2014, a jug of adhesive leaked in one room of my house, saturating the wood floors. This attracted termites. I called 5 Star and a technician in a hazmat suit crawled into a crawl space under my floor and treated the wood. This was nasty work but the technician was very professional and congenial. In 2015, a toilet seal failed, saturating the wood floor beneath the linoleum (this was in the area of the previous infestation). I had to gut my bathroom and remodel it as a result of the leak. This year, the termites returned to this area of the house. I called 5 Star and the owner advised me to removed the dying china berry tree in my back yard where I believe termites were nesting and they re-treated the area under my floorboards. The service was prompt and professional. Because 5 Star does not do exterior soil treatment, I called another company to investigate soil treatment options. That company said they would not treat my soil because I have an adobe house with limited underfloor access - they wouldn't even provide me with a no warranty quote. My experience with 5 Star has been very positive. Especially for people living in older masonry homes who aren't interested in "the nuclear option", 5 Star provides low-toxicity treatment options and offers excellent advice on minimizing risk of termite infestation.

Tips & Advices
According to the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB), the ten most common home improvement projects are, in order from the top: bathroom remodel, kitchen remodel, whole-house remodeling, room addition, window/doors replacement, basement finishing, bathroom additions, property-damage repair, decks, and roofing.
The most common types of house siding are wood, asbestos (read the warning labels!), aluminum or steel, vinyl, hardboard composite, fiberglass, and cement fiber. Few contractors use asbestos for any residential siding anymore.
On average, it costs $25-$50 per square foot for basement refinishing. Those numbers can climb as high as $100 per square foot depending on materials and labor. On average, most basement refinishing costs around $30,000. Before getting estimates, it’s a good idea to know your square footage and work out a per-square-foot budget so you know what you can afford.
The National Air Duct Cleaners Association recommends having your ducts cleaned every three to five years. While there are variables for all homes, such as number of residents, air quality and pets, every two years is considered adequate maintenance of your ducts.
If you are looking for straight return-on-investment value, the best home improvement project is insulation. That might may seem surprising, but valuable energy efficiency makes it the top home improvement project. Steel entry doors, manufactured stone veneer, kitchen remodel, and garage door replacement round out the top five ROI home improvement projects.
