Cimarron Animal Hospital
A great veterinarian, and a great clinic! Dr. Deb Bohnke and her staff are knowledgeable, compassionate, and genuinely care about the health of the animals they see. Most importantly, they go out of their way to work with clients, fit in emergency appointments, help owners understand what's going on with an animal's health, and how to treat (or prevent) a problem so your pet is happy and healthy. I have used their services for several years, during which they treated two of my geriatric dogs, and two younger dogs, including one who had a serious blood infection. I know their care extended the time I had with my pets, and continues to improve the time my family shares with the two who are still with us. Finding the right verterinarian is as hard as finding a good family Doctor -- it's not just about whether the Doctor knows the medicine (which Dr. Bohnke does), it's about whether they listen to the owner (the person who knows the animal better than anyone), care about the pet, and can work with the owner. I feel like I found the right veterinarian when I found Cimmarron Animal Hospital, and highly recommend her to anyone who needs a good veterinarian.

Speedway Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Boyer is AMAZING! My mom passed and I "inherited" her dog. I took my dog here because she had a mass on her rectum. A friend referred me and had only positive things to say bout the office and the staff. The staff was super nice and attentive. My dog received the medical attention she needed. Dr. Boyer was very informative on what needed to be done and the different options I had to remedy the situation. The rooms are super clean (no fur everywhere like other vet offices I have been to), you can purchase food in the lobby, and they have covered parking. I also have a 11-year-old dog, which I plan on bringing in soon to get her teeth cleaned. Thanks Speedway Veterinary Hospital!

Bear Canyon Pet Clinic
Bear Canyon Pet Clinic is simply the best around. They genuinely care about animals and give excellent service. They are also reasonably priced (I know this because I switched vets about 5 years ago because at the other clinic I had good treatment but was being ripped off). Dr. Van Erven and her great team helped us with vaccines, USDA, and other steps through an extremely complicated pet transport from the US to New Zealand. We couldn't have done it without their assistance, patience, and professionalism. We highly recommend them.

Mountain View Veterinary Clinic
Dr Keil & her staff are very caring, putting the welfare of my cats first. They love all animals. I recommend Dr Keil to everyone who has pets. Everyone at the clinic was so kind & ccompassionate when I had to put down two of my elderly cats. When I have to take my grumpy old male to the clinic for his checkups, I know he is in good hands. They love him & give him so much attention that he comes home with a Diva-type attitude. Dr Keil & her staff can't be beat!!! They are truly the best!!!

Orange Grove Animal Hospital
We have been going to Orange Grove Animal Hospital for 8 1/2 years with 5 different animals. We see Dr. Carolyn Lopez and she treats us like family. She goes above and beyond and when we lost 2 of our boys (kitties), she did everything she could to save them and expressed sincere sympathy when we lost them. I will continue taking my babies to her and recommend anyone I know to go there as well. We have also seen Dr. Jarchow when Dr. Lopez is out of the office and he has been very nice also.

ABC Low Cost Pet Care Clinic
5 stars all the way! I've found my 2 puppies' new vet! Amazing staff, doctor, service. very clean, very kind, very gentle. they even let me use the 'celebrity entrance' b/c my pup is a little crazy! VERY affordable, especially compared to the other vets around here. Extremely happy with ABC, and so is my baby girl. I'll be taking my baby boy there shortly. Also told my parents, and brothers. and will tell anybody that needs a good vet clinic. Thank you ALL soooo very much!!!!

Santa Cruz Veterinary Clinic
I love this vet. I have been taking my pets to them for years. They have great prices in my opinion. Get a second opinion yourself and you will see. The staff are nice. The clinic is usually very crowded but it makes for nice visiting with other pets. They are not a welfare office and they have to stay in business so don't expect services for free or near free, but they do have better prices than most..

Bear Canyon Pet Clinic
We have been customers for years and have 2 cats. When Julio caught valley fever, Dr. Van performed her "magic"over several years and saved his life. This was over 6 years ago and he is doing great at this time at 14 years old. The entire staff are animal lovers and We highly recommend the clinic for small animal services. KM & MM

Suffolk Hills Pet Clinic
My parents have been trusting Suffolk Hills for years with their dogs. I have been with them twice during visits. Unbelievably compassionate doctors and staff. Dr. Nunn is a true blessing to the domestic animal kingdom. Would trust him with every member of my family. Too bad he doesn't treat humans.

Reata Equine Veterinary Group
I am extremely lucky to have Dr. Mike Conaway as my Equine Veterinarian, he is professional, knowledgeable, thorough and caring. Reata Equine gives me the information and guidance I need to confidently make the best decisions for the health and caring of my three beloved horses. Thank you so much
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
