Hollenshade's Auto Service
Recently the time had finally come to get my brakes replaced. A coworker of mine said he always had a great experience at Hollenshades. I scheduled an appointment for the following day. I came in to have my brakes done at my scheduled time. Within 10 minutes my car was being serviced. The prices are very fair and the customer service I received was outstanding!

Merchant's Tire and Auto Service Center
Went in for a $20 oil change and tire rotation. They checked other things out in my car and came back with $1200 worth of suggested fixes. They pushed really hard and tried to make it sound like my car could break down at any moment. I regrettably took some of their advice and had them replace my serpentine belt for $150 - total rip off by the way. I was worried because I had a huge road trip planned for the next day. I didn't want to take any chances. They gave me the old belt from my car. I took the old belt to another mechanic for a second opinion and they laughed in my face saying "That belt is fine." Now my car makes a new noise that I never heard before because a part of the power steering now rubs up against the belt. Didn't know I had that issue before because I just took it to get it's 100k mile check up. Once again, my car never made that noise before I took it to this shop. Moral of the story, they will up sell the hell out of you and totally take advantage of you. Don't listen to them. In fact, just go somewhere else.

Cromwell Valley Motors
Went in for an oil change and Sam, the mechanic was friendly and responsive. The cost was reasonable and the service was very quick (I was leaving for vacation and needed same day service). The new owner, Steve, is passionate about cars and is very customer-focused. I will definitely revisit them for future service.

M & M Auto
I Bought a 2000 VW Beetle on 3/30/16 from the Joppa Road location days later the check engine light came on and I called Mike the salesman Took car back on 4/14/16 He said bring it back 4/18/16 Not a person showed up until 10:00am I stood around 3 hours Called me 3pm same day car was finished and hoses replaced emissions tested and repairs made (A Lie) Light back on 4/25/2016 told to pay. I said I have a print out showing what is wrong with it and he didn't want to hear it. Check engine light was cleared to look like service had been performed. No new hoses replaced problem never diagnosed. I took it to Auto Zone diagnosed the problem in seconds was told had a emissions test or a computer diagnosis been done same information available to them. I was made to stand around for 3 hours and 3 round trips at 120 miles each not to mention being made a fool of. Had they done the right thing I would not be writing this but this is a warning to stay the HELL AWAY WORD NO GOOD

The Toy Store Towson
1996 Jaguar was advertised on Autotrader and with no description. I spoke to owner, Urik about the car. I asked specific questions about it and I was informed that the vehicle was absolutely perfect, with no rust and perfect paint and mechanical. I paid $5000, which is 2-3 times more than the street and auction value and bought the vehicle on 5/13/2015. Photos too showed a perfect vehicle. Received the car on the 8th of June. Nothing even close to what it was suppose to be. Rust everywhere on the body and undercarriage. Fingers go through rust it is so much. Car has no brakes. It is unsafe to drive. Radiator hanging loose from passenger side. Drivers side has no paint because the clear coat is gone and paint is now all cracked to max. Passengers side was in a collision and was never repaired. Inside the hood on the engine there are zip tights to hold the gas pedal wire which can disconnect at anytime in traffic or while driving the vehicle. Tail lights DO NOT work and brake lights with ABS are on which is a warning that the vehicle has no brakes. Vehicles body needs a full paint job. Different colors on different panels. Dry leather on the inside. Wood entirely cracked. Severe transmission oil leaks. Sagging head liner which is blocking the rear view. I know for a fact that this vehicle should have never been advertised and no licensed dealer has the right to advertise a vehicle which does not qualify for states required safety standards. Owner Urik ignored my calls and texts after I received the car. He called me once and told me he was going to call back after a minute of conversation when I wasnt even finished explaining the problems he was already aware of. Since then he ignored all sorts of communication. No paperwork was ever given to me to sign and a vehicle was released from the lot. No title was ever given to me ether. Thank you

Leo's Auto Inc
These guys knocked my socks off! I've grown used to gruff and unfriendly service at Auto shops and I expected the same when showing up here. The person at the front (Mark or Mike) was attentive, personable and rolled the red carpet out for me. The mechanic went a step further and gave me a heads up on some ways that I save on maintenance. I was treated like royalty and spent less than $100, this is definitely where I'll go for anything car related. Any place can fix your car, but everyplace won't treat you like they appreciate you!
Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
