Avenue Animal Hospital and their staff are absolutely AMAZING. Today my family and I, unfortunately, had to put down our dog Lilly (unexpectedly) as a family of 6, we weren't all together when we heard the news… It was around 1:15 PM when they told us and they had already “closed” 15 minutes prior to that at 1 PM. We wanted everyone in the family to be able to say goodbye and ALL of the staff stayed until around 2:30-3:00 PM until everyone in the family was able to get there and say their goodbye’s. I’ve never reviewed a business online in my life, but because of the unbelievable hospitality, they showed my family during this sad time… I felt compelled to do so (you’ll probably see this same review on every review site that exist because I can’t thank them enough so this is the only way I can) We all want vets that we can trust when it comes to the care of our pets, so if you’re looking for one… I can say with 100% certainty that you’ll be in good hands with Avenue. Thank you again to all of the staff that stayed behind with us... you really made a difficult situation much easier, and my family and I will always be grateful. Thanks again!

Family Pet Clinic
We have used Dr. Valenti for 20 years. He has treated 3 of our dogs. One stay my daughters found ended up with diabetes as he aged, I couldn't believe the great care he gave our little guy showing me how to give insolin injections, a homemade diet etc. When he diagnosed our puppy as epileptic he had me keep a chart of everything which happened during an episode, put her on the proper medication and tested her for her levels to make sure she was getting enough or not too much. He recommended dog food which didn't have all the added garbage in it most have, told us which foods were good for dogs and which to stay away from. Our dogs had lived to ages 16, 17, & 17.His associate is also very good as is his staff friendly & great with animals. While there may be other good vets also I really believe Dr Valenti, Associate and Staff are the best.

Everyone at Avenue is always courteous, cheerful and knowledgable. They take care of the animals and their people. The hospital is always clean/tidy. We are always seen quickly after arrival. Questions are answered in a way anyone could understand. I have recommended Avenue to friends!! I drive over an hour to get here and I have multiple Vets w/in 15 minutes of my house.

My pet care provider of many years recently retired and closed shop, thus causing me to search for a new care provider for my pets. I visited Avenue Animal Hospital for the first time this week with my little dachshund Cooper. We were welcomed by a warm, helpful staff and knowledgeable doctor. Problem solved! We will return for sure. Highly recommend.

The doctors and staff were very detailed, extremely polite - they go out of their way, even mailed me papers I forgot so I didn't have to go back and get them. Extremely helpful, and simple to understand when explaining my dogs condition

Anytime I take my dog in for a check up at Avenue Animal Hospital I am always impressed with the level of care the staff provide to their patients.
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
