Chicago people, new Tampa people--BEWARE! Portillo's has finally went to the low road by lowering the beef on your beef & charging the same. I am from Chicago, ate at all the beef stands in the whole city, while being a salesman for 30 years, I know all the Portillo's in the Chicago area .So now, they want to rip us off by lower beef, maybe you noticed the reduction. I remember a couple of moths ago, I could hardy finish a beef--now---I'd probably have to eat two--that stinks! Stupid manager told me people were complaining the beefs were to heavy--what a crock & a stupid one at that. Even the bread has gotton stale lately. Saw the same at Giardano's- couple months--great pizza--then, lowering the cheese to half on a stuffed--charged more & went out of business--what idiots. Don't let them get away with this scam of cheating us. Check your beef & demand the right amout !!! Calling corporate today--so pissed off. Watch out also on drive thru. Got a beef, with hardly any beef on it & 1 small pepper. I love beefs, but will do without. LOOK AT YOUR BEEF WHEN YOU GET IT--COMPLAIN. This would not be tolerated in Chicago-guaranteed!
Rubios is a casual restaurant that has really great, fresh Mexican food with a coastal twist. I love fish tacos that are either grilled or blackened, and theirs are delicious.I especially like their mahi mahi tacos which come topped with a light crema sauce and grilled corn. They were plated with refried into beans and tortilla chips. They have a taco bar with fresh, homemade salsa, chopped onion with cilantro and other good toppings. You order your food at the counter and then someone brings it to your table after it has been prepared. I enjoy eating lunch at Rubios!
Guacamole was the best thing. Everything else was very bland. Wouldn't recommend if you are looking for Mexican.
Ordered shrimp linguine and it was amazing!! Kids had fried shrimp and loved it. Good prices great food!!!
So how were the tacos? They were ok. Just "ok". I don't remember too many specifics as my tacos were overcast by a mediocre tequila drink and a silly 1990's nightclub vibe and a bunch of stressed out staff at 2 in the afternoon. Where to begin. The staff was all trying way too hard and made me feel like I was there to buy a used car. But that used car was tequila. One waiter that wasn't even ours stopped by after our food was delivered to not ask about the food as much as to rhetorically drive home the point their tacos are bigger than another local taco place down the road. I had three people working there push the tequila -drink-cocktail-shots etc. It was pretty early in the day which I thought was funny, until the third person repeated the spiel about the tequila selection. No longer funny, but fine, I give ... I finally asked my waitress about any higher end mescal. I'd like a mescal margarita. They had none at that time. Then the manager stopped by to explain that mescal isn't on the level of their tequilas ... and not the sort of high end tequila they carry (which given the national trend of high end mescal going on everywhere I just smiled and nodded). Perhaps things have changed in the weeks since then and they've caught stride, but the place is way too 1990's for me. I won't be back. I'll be down the street where the tacos are smaller and the drinks all have fresh squeezed lime juice.
Place gives you that authentic Mexican eatery. Service was a little slow but could have been the day. Food and tacos were good.
Very difficult parking, cold hard bagel with watery cream cheese. Not worth ten dollars. When trying to get improperly filled lunch order exchanged, I was treated with hostility by a very angry little man. If you are so unhappy in your career, you can certainly find a more fulfilling job elsewhere. I didn't deserve the malice and condescending tone. At your advanced age, I would hope for you to find some peace and start treating fellow human beings with a modicum of respect. I won't be treated badly for inferior and expensive food when I was pleasant and respectful to you.
The soup and the coffee were delicious the food all tasted old and had no flavor the yuca was very dry and they charge 2.99 every time you get a refill soda. Also they serve the soup in a shallow plate! I would never go back to this place and I wouldn't never recommend it to someone else they were also less than 10 people there while we were there and the service was still horrible we had to ask for everything twice and keep waiting when we complained about the food all she said was sorry and did absolutely nothing.
The place is a little old but you have not had an omlette in Tampa until you have tried Nikis. Love the Popeye's Revenge one the best. They have this other one called the Debris. This restaurant is legit. Parking is a pain though especially if you come on the weekends. You might have to park accross the street or next door but watch that they don't tow your car.
