    This used to be our favorite restaurant and it was extremely well-run by the Laxer family. Sadly, the parents passed away, who were really foodies, and they passed it on to their son David, who apparently doesn't have as much interest in food or running a restaurant for that matter. We came and ordered steaks, and it came with complimentary salad and soup. The salad and soup were okay but nothing to write home about. However, I must give Bern's props for at least serving those things free while other "fine" steakhouses do not. But don't be fooled by all the nonsense about the food coming from their organic garden. The vast majority of it comes from wholesalers just like any other restaurant and it is reflected in the taste. There is no way they could provide that quantity of food from a little garden. The steak itself was lousy and frankly I could get a better cut from a place for less than half the price. It was very chewy and tough and frankly nowhere on par with actual fine steakhouses like Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Capital Grille, etc. The tour of the kitchen and wine cellar are a nice touch and the white-glove service is nice, but this restaurant is no longer in the same league as the fine restaurants mentioned above. It is simply living off its reputation from the past, and I could hardly see myself dropping $200 to $300 to have steak that's worse than a hibachi restaurant. Not to mention everything takes so darn long: it's about two hours to have your meal and then you go upstairs to the Harry Waugh room which looks like a scene out of a sci-fi movie and have another bill and another wait simply to get desert. And of course you will get socked with another $5 valet charge simply to park your car in Bern's own parking lot. No thanks, I will no longer be burned at Bern's ever again!

    The desserts here are amazing and there are so many to choose from. The atmosphere is amazing. Perfect for a romantic evening. Would recommend to everyone

  • Get the Banana's Foster

    The Bern's dessert room has a mind-boggling array of choices for both desserts and after dinner drinks. However, one stands above all, the banana's foster. Anyone not familiar with the preparation of this delicious Southern dessert will get an intimate tutorial. A cart equipped with propane burners is wheeled to your table as your server creates the dish before your eyes. Not only is this fantastic entertainment, it tastes heavenly. For those that must have chocolate, their cakes are incredible as well.

  • Amazing Food even better service

    I have been to the Harry Waugh dessert room many times and I must say there isnt a better place to have a romantic date. The food is so amazing, I especially reccomend the Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate. Another great part of this place is the service, Darcel is a great server and has a bubbly personality. I would reccomend this place to anyone looking to satisfy a sweet tooth!

  • Four words: Macadamia Nut Ice Cream

    To me, ice cream should be in its very own food group. If I could live off it, I would. Bern's macadamia nut ice cream is simply the best ice cream I have ever eaten in my entire life. The first time I tried it, I was skeptical. I don't like macadamia nuts so I really didn't think I would enjoy it. I only ordered it because my curiosity was piqued by hearing that Mr. Bern's went through God knows how many recipes before arriving at this one. Mr. Bern knew what he was doing. Rich, sinful, creamy, smooth as silk.

    I have lived in Tampa since December 1985 and have always heard about Berns Steak house and the Harry Waugh Dessert Room. In December 2004 I took my wife to the dessert room after a nice dinner elsewhere to celebrate her graduation. While the dessert room was everything it was hyped up to be.....I would not rate it the number place to go or thing to do in Tampa. This is one of the best cities in the country with many others activities that I would rank higher.
