McGee Auto Service & Tire
This shop is the best place in Tampa and surrounding counties for auto services and/or tires. I used to reside in the area but have moved however, I will continue to travel the distance to McGee’s. First and foremost the staff is not only friendly, yet is knowledgeable enough to relay information to me in terms that I can understand. They explain to me what is occurring, why it is occurring, and how it can affect my vehicle overall. As a single woman who does not understand the mechanics of the automotive industry, it was very intimidating to speak to other auto service businesses and I often questioned other stores integrity and honesty. This has never been the case at McGee’s on Sheldon Road. The most recent example: I was having an issue where my battery would constantly die on me, even after long travels. I took it to a nearby auto-parts store where they plugged in my vehicle to their computer and told me that the battery was good. Confused and unsure of what to do, I called McGee’s. I spoke with the manager, Larry. He insisted that with the issues I was describing to him that it was the in fact the battery. Now normally, I would be very skeptical but I have been going to McGee’s for many years now, even before the name change, and have always had honest services. Larry told me to come to the store and the guys would replace my battery and if that did not fix the issue then I could return the battery. I called another local auto-parts to see how much a battery would cost me that price was not only 25% more expensive than McGee’s, but it did not even include installation. But here I was faced with another dilemma. It was 5:30, on a Friday, and I was in New Port Richey at the moment. I feared I would not make it in time, with traffic, by 6:00pm when the store closed. However, Larry asked me to hold, and spoke to his staff. When he returned to the line, he informed me that a few members of his team were willing to stay late and wait for me. I arrived at McGee’s around 6:15pm and even though it was only 15 minutes, it was a Friday and no one wants to stay late on a Friday. But they did and they replaced my battery. I never did return the battery because Larry was in fact correct and the computer was wrong, it was the battery. The kind of customer service this location delivers has not only surpassed my expectations but has gone above and beyond on numerous occasions, no matter the financial profit. It is because of Larry and his amazing team, I refuse to allow any other person or place maintenance my vehicle. I recommend this place to everyone including my own grandmother because I know that the staff the will be honest and true to her as if she was their grandmother. Thank you to Larry and his team for being so kind and committed to your customers. I will continue to recommend you and the shop to anyone who questions.
Direct Tire & Auto Service
I moved to Florida from Connecticut in March 2013. When moving here I was concerned about finding an auto shop to service my 2007 Jetta. Having a Jetta I know the issues I would be running into as I added the miles onto my car. I lived across the street from Direct Tire and heard nothing but wonderful things about the service there, so when my brakes were going I decided to bring my car to Direct Tire for service. My brakes were fixed and luckily I got my car in the shop just in time before my rotors were junk. Tom was honest, upfront, and didn't jerk me around just because I am a female. In my experience I have been ripped off at a lot of auto garages just for the meer fact that I am a female. After my brakes were done, I had an oil change done by Direct Tire. They are so informative and let you know everything that is wrong with your car and give you the option to fix it or not. They are NEVER pushy or try to sell you something you don't need, which is wonderful. Tom never tries to pull the wool over your eyes like I have experienced in the past with other auto garages. I recently just went back and had all the spark plugs and coils replaced on my car. I cannot rant and rave enough about Tom and Direct Tire. Andy, a mechanic there is phenomenal as well. I rest at ease and know when my car is at Direct Tire it is in great hands. Tom takes the time to listen to you and get your car issues resolved fast, and usually offers multiple routes you can go to get your car fixed. I now have had my family members and co workers use Direct Tire for all their car needs. Everyone I have sent there has been nothing but impressed overall. I have even been in there dropping my car off and bumped into people I know in the waiting area, not even knowing that they go to Direct Tire as well. I know since March 2013 to present (June 2014) I will not bring my car anywhere but Direct Tire for all my future car needs. You cannot beat the service you get there from the minute you pick up the phone and call/walk into the waiting area, to the time you drive your car home. I have never been disappointed in any work that has been done, and always know Tom will take care of me and make sure my car is running its best.
Only place I'd take a car or truck for anything non-warranty. Found them after Bill Currie tried to burn us twice and they have been great .... from Chevy trucks, to Ford Escapes and Toyota Ravs they've handled them all... been going there for over 5 years.... the work is warranted, reasonably priced, and you wont get ripped off. Dan is straight up and that can be hard to find these days ... if you ever want to test the "integrity" of a mechanic, send in your daughter with a charge card and a "known" issue. At Gillett's, they will find and fix that problem, and that problem only.... There are a lot of places that will "find" all kinds of things "wrong", that are non-existent. Sent my daughter to Bill Currie with a small power steering leak ... they wanted to put in a new power steering pump for around $700 ... the thing is, the only thing wrong was that the spring clip holding the hose from the reservoir had cracked the hose at the connection. The second time she had to take it in was for a safety recall on the seat belts or something .... she called saying they found that the front brake pads were metal to metal with the rotors and the rear brake pads and drums needed replacing immediately as well. I had done both front and back less than nine months prior so I told her to go home where I pulled a front an rear wheel, took photo's of what Bill Curries "service writer" called "metal to metal" and drove back to the dealership. I went straight to the "sharp dressed" service manager, showed him the copy of the service order/recommendations from my daughter, and then the pictures I had just taken. He backpedaled like nobody's business and I left after asking him to please, next time you want to steal from me ... come to my house to do it so I can legally respond accordingly.No one at Gillett Auto wears a tie, but they're honest and reliable. It seems like from Factory service centers to court houses to capitol hill, the biggest thieves and liars all wear ties ....
Transmatics Transmissions N Auto Repair
I highly recommend Transmatics Transmissions. I haven't been treated this well by a mechanic in over 10 years!!!I had just gotten off I-75 for a business meeting, thankfully an hour early, when my car started making a weird noise. While I was driving I was turning everything on and off to see what the cause was, but couldn't figure it out. I got to my destination and immediately popped the hood and called my brother. Long story short he figured it was most likely something related to the transmission. So I looked up Transmission Mechanic on Google Maps and Transmatics Transmissions was right around the corner. I drove my car over and spoke to Leon immediately after arriving. He drove the car around the lot and told me he would find the problem. He then offered to DRIVE ME back to my meeting! I don't know of any mechanic anywhere that would do that, even if it were around the corner! I got a call later from Leon stating that they wouldn't be able to fix it today because the part wouldn't come in on time. After I told him I didn't want stay unless absolutely necessary he offer another solution that wouldn't risk destroying my car on the ride home so that I could have it fixed later. I opted for Plan B, then Leon came and PICKED ME UP from my meeting!Other than not having AC for the ride home, the consequence of Plan B-thoroughly explained beforehand, I felt like a princess. And they only charged my $60 for taking apart my engine and telling me exactly what my problem was. Now my brother can fix it this weekend! Thank you Transmatics!
I highly recommend this Auto Repair Shop... I have been using them the last 20 years and all I can say about them is they are extremely good at what the do.They are very knowledgeable, honest, great service, and the best is their prices are very reasonable compare to other repair shops. The owner's name is Jesse... Tell them Nixon recommended them and I promise you... you'll be happy you did. There are many auto repair shops but ALTERNATIVE AUTO CARE they will fix what is needed to be fixed - unlike other shops may fix what is wrong with your car but they often will tell you additional repairs is needed so they can make more money off from you... I'm not just saying it because it has happened to me more times that I can count.Take your vehicle to them you will be happy you did driving away knowing they fix what was wrong without over charging you. I have been using them with all of the cars I have owned the last 20+ years,,, I should know and you will be grateful you did. No need for thanks. Being the nit picker customer that I am, for me to say a company is great is rare. On several fronts Auto Safe and Sound are the ultimate in quality and service. Here's why. I got my 2003 SUV tinted 11 yrs ago, and since then, I have had my car out in the sun almost all the time, making wrinkled tint panels almost inevitable (After 9 yrs I had sporadic problems. It may have been a problem for me, but for the Manager at Safe and sound, Alvaro, who's been there for years, it was zero problems. He did not hesitate fixing panels on the spot, or in one case where the defroster/rear panel required fixing, he fixed it, and gave me drive to my house, and picked me up, without hesitation. I have seen the "Lifetime Warrantee" advertisement for many years, but how many tinting companies are around long enough to make good on that promise?. This company is the one!. Unreal how they respect their customers, and back their product. Truly one-in-a-million!. Alvaro is the face of this company and he is unmatched in all areas of service and quality.
Transmatics Transmissions N Auto Repair
I am new to the area and had yet to find a mechanic that would be honest, reliable and trustworthy. When I got to the shop on Saturday 3/26 I got a good feeling due to the high quality shop that Leon, the owner, keeps. Leon greeted me and spoke with me about the problems my car was having. He was very straightforward about what I would need, the cost of it all, and his opinions. I spoke with a mechanic friend of mine who had assumed the labor/parts would cost far more than what Leon charged me. If you are looking for a mechanic that will not steal your money, and will get the job done, Leon is your man! Many mechanics will give you a handwritten slip of what you had done for the day, but Leon gave me a receipt with a professional heading for his shop, all of the work done and the prices. When you are looking for someone who will take care of your car, you want someone reliable and professional. He runs a good shop and I am happy to say I have found my new mechanic.
