Cesar's Old Mexico
Cesar's Old Mexico restaurant is a new entity on E. Sunshine St, We stopped in to check it out and OMG was it good. Through a mixup in communication, I thought I was ordering beef enchiladas, while our server thought I was ordering a carne asada with red sauce. When it came I was surprised, but it smelled so good, I decided to give it a go. It was GREAT! One of the best Mexican meals I've ever had.My wife had a tamale and chicken enchiladas with mole. She said it was the best Mexican meal she could remember.Needless to say, Cesar's Old Mexico is now our favorite Mexican restaurant in Springfield. BTW, one thing you should know is that it is authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex. Also, about half of the patrons eating there are Spanish speakers. I'm predicting Cesar's Old Mexico will have to move to bigger quarters before long.

Pancho's Mexican Food
This is below the worst fast food quality at casual sit-down dining prices. I will say that for the price, the portions are pretty large, but I'd rather have just a little good, carefully prepared food than a lot of lukewarm greasy slop. The cheese dip had a film on top that only comes from being prepared and sitting for a long time. Everything on my plate was cold and EVERYTHING was possibly the greasiest and oiliest food I've ever paid too much to not enjoy. The fish tacos had tartar sauce. The fish is almost definitely frozen. Nothing tasted fresh and it was all poorly prepared and served lukewarm. The staff was nice and the place was clean and they're open 24 hours a day, so there are advantages to eating here so long as you're ok with paper plates with plastic utensils. I will not be back.

Tubby's Diner
A few days ago I had a great breakfast at Tubby's. The Lumberjack breakfast filled me up and it sure was tasty!!! Fried eggs over medium cooked to perfection. There was no problem substituting biscuits and gravy for the ham slab. I like ham but I was in the mood for biscuits and gravy. The pancakes were BIG and tasty as was everything I ate. I have only had one meal at this place with its new ownership. I believe the new owners have done a fine job of renewing the old. I will be returning in the future. I will likely order a smaller breakfast offering since I was just too stuffed with that Lumberjack breakfast!!!! I must admit I am getting older and unable to eat as much as in the past.

Cafe Cusco
Living in the Atlanta area, we are familiar with many great restaurants. We were in the Springfield area visiting family and this restaurant intrigued us. We decided to try it--great decision! The restaurant itself is amazing--the decor was unique and so inviting. We especially loved the booths downstairs. We felt like we were in our own private space. The food was outstanding and so reasonably priced. We had several dishes but especially loved the Tequenos and the Drunken Goat Seco--so unlike anything we had ever tasted before. We met the owners who are as friendly and welcoming as family. If you are in the area, this is definitely worth the trip. You won't be disappointed!

El Puente Mexican Restaurant
We couldn't be more pleased! My wife and I were here for the first time (while on our honeymoon). The staff provided excellent service and were very attentive to our needs. I had the fajitas taco salad (with steak) & my wife ordered the Steak Mexicana (with 3 fajita wraps,T-bone steak, rice, refried beans, sauteed peppers and onions, guacamole, and sour cream). Both meals were excellent! The steak from each meal was done perfectly - tender and juicy. The prices were very reasonable. I endorse few restaurants, but whole heartedly recommend Puente Mexican Restaurant at 1111 E.Republic Road in Springfield,MO.

Holler Boys BBQ
There's a lot of "hole-in-the-wall" BBQ places in Springfield - Buckingham's, Pappy's, Crosstown, etc. - all pretty good. And then there are the higher end places like Famous Dave's and Rib Crib. Holler Boys stands up in both taste and quality to all of these while being slightly cheaper.Their meats and sauce don't set them apart from the others (I didn't try their ribs) but they are tasty. Highlights are the homemade fries and fried pickles. They don't have seating so plan for take-out. Certainly worth dropping in if you want some quick, decent BBQ to take home on the cheap.

Cafe Cusco
This place is a perfect balance of everything you want in a restaurant. Atmosphere is amazing. Beautiful, charming and not too Pretentious. You can actually relax here! Food is flavorful, healthy and filling. The menu has a wide range from the safe to the exotic and prices that are definitely affordable. The staff is super friendly and make you feel like you just belong there. Cafe Cusco is definitely on the top of the list of best restaurant experiences in Springfield. Plus it is inside one of the cities oldest buildings in the beautiful C Street historic district.

La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant
This is the greatest Mexican restaurant that I have been to in the Midwest. The portions are huge and the prices are great! My friend and I both got fajitas, queso dip, bean dip, and drinks for $22.00. The food is always served hot and the people are great. On Saturdays they have live music. Oh yeah, and their peach margaritas are the greatest thing on the planet! Everyone must go there. Definitely worth the drive if you live on the other side of town.

Lucy's Chinese Food
Average food, small menu, bad service. My rice was under cooked, small and hard. Meat was good but not much sauce. Like most Chinese restaurants around town, the food is bland. Portions were small, I was looking for some decent Orange Chicken, but you can't find that here. I got the General Chicken instead. I should have just gone across the street to McDonalds. At least there I know I will be getting poor quality when I order. Sigh...
