Cottage Veterinary Hospital PC
Dr. Mike Pfanders is the most professional vet in this city and surrounding area that I know of. His staff is so sweet and gentle with your pets. Dr. Mike as I like to call him took care of my toy poodle since she was six weeks old. Through her sixteen years of life, he had saved her life more than 3 times. Dr. Mike is a gentle man when he is with the animals he is treating and examining and even plays a bit with them too I've seen. As the years went on with my poodle she developed certain problems as any pet will do in it,s life. Snuggles, my dog had got an infection and would die without surgery, he said she needed stays and tests that would cost me money I did not ve.he told me that he knew what the problem was and would do the surgery and talk later about the bill later.because of her age he told me that she may not pull through but she would die without it. He did the surgery and she came thru with flying colors. Well the years went by and she was 16 now and slowing down and having problems. It got really bad Monday sept 17th and he was putting fluids in her to keep her hydrated. He sent her home with me and told me she could pass during the nite.she did have a bad nite so I had to take her in and had to make the decision to have to make her pain go away.we had to put her to sleep that morning. It was so painful for me but Dr. Mike was calm and very passionate when he put his hand on my arm and said, you are doing the rite thing. I was able to hold her while he administered the medicine that would put her out of her pain. She passed away in my arms and I cryied,he gave me time to grieve, and when it was over he told me that he would make the arrangements for her to be creamated. I just want to say that in the 16 years that I have known Dr.Mike Pfanders he is the best veterinarian that I know and was voted vet of the year again I believe 2 or three years.and I just want to say he and his staff Jean, miss Reba and spring, I hope I didn't forget anyone are the best! I would recommend him to any one and everyone i know and do not know. Dr. Mike you are the greatest man I know, thank you for caring for my dog all of those years.Thank you so much. David Owens

Springfield Veterinary Center
Not open about their polices. (Moved to 330 E. Battlefield) My last vet (Thrive in Austin, Tx) allowed me to not to a heartworm test for my dog since he was on heartworm prevention already and had a previous heartworm test. Therefore I declined the heartworm test when I went to Springfield Veterinary Center, explaining that my dog was already on heartworm prevention. I WAS NOT TOLD THAT DECLINING THE TEST MEANT THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO PRESCRIBED ANY PREVENTION TO ME. They had time to mention this when I asked how to get medicine online for my dog and was told that the online seller just had to contact them. I understand that different vets have different policies but I would not have declined the test if I had known the result. When I found out that they did not allow the prescription from the online provider, I called to find out the issue and was told they did not have a heartworm test for my dog so would not provide it even when I pointed out my dog had a test from 2014 and be on prevention since. I'm still angry that I wasn't informed of this policy when I declined the test or when I talked about getting heartworm prevention. Will never go to them again, rather eat the cost of going to another vet to get the heartworm prevention. I increased the score due to being offered a free heartworm test after the Veternarian called me back, though I did not take him up on it.

Springfield Veterinary Clinic, gave me hope for my dog!! I had taken for years to another vet, he started having seizures, they kept telling me he is an old dog and sent me home.My daughter takes her animals to SVC and I went with her when she had to put her cat to sleep. It was the most loved moment by the staff, I was in awe!I decided to take my dog there, I brought my kids with me, I was positive I was going to be told the same as my other vet, he is old and that is just what happens!I went there with no hope and after Dr. Wiseman checked my dog, suggested a pain management plan!!! I couldn't believe it!! I was given all the pros and cons of the medicine, and started the plan, I can't believe the difference in my pet, he is back to himself, It has been almost a year and my dog is still doting GREAT! I take him every couple of months for blood work and how he is doing. I walked in with no hope of saving my best friend and walked out with a plan of a road to recovery!! My family all go the SVC now, the staff is the BEST, they know my pet when they see him, they will call after visits to check up on him and send him cards!! I have never seen a more dedicated staff!! I am a SVC for life!! Thank you!! Renee Lawson

Angel Animal Hospital
Dr Jane has been amazing with my little guy! He was a rescue, born at animal control, and as most puppies go - he has had an interesting 1st year. She is always calm and sweet with Carlos and he loves going to see her. She and her staff are amazingly thurogh and always super helpful! They have a pet portal you can access online which keeps track of his wellness visits, vaccinations and monthly Trifexus. They send out reminders via email and also give you a quick reminder call before appointments.Thankfully I have only had to bring Carlos in once (so far) for an emergency! The staff was wonderful in keeping me calm and also making sure he was well cared for. We were out in the yard and he went chasing after a squirrel - somehow he ended up snagging a toe and nearly ripped out his entire toenail. I, of course, was in a state of panic because there was SO MUCH BLOOD. I rinsed his foot off and applied pressure, to no avail - at that point I thought my puppy was going to lose a toe. They got him bandaged up (which he took full advantage of) and out of pain immediately! They are wonderful and I'm grateful for Dr Jane and her staff offering such good care for my baby boy!

Bradford Park Veterinary Hospital
Bradford Park Veterinary Hospital saved our precious baby's life. Amos, our 13-year-old Basset/Beagle, was diagnosed with a massive tumor in his stomach that abscessed and perforated into his gut, thus becoming septic. He went under emergency surgery in the skillful hands of Dr. Shelley. It was a long shot that he would pull through because of the severity of situation, but Dr. Shelley worked a miracle with our boy. All the technicians and the staff were extremely helpful, kind, and positive. Dr. Wiest worked with us throughout the whole process with the utmost professionalism, honesty, and care. A heartfelt shout out goes to Shawna for taking a personal interest in Amos and keeping us updated on his progress. Bradford Park Veterinary Hospital is undoubtedly the best in the area, unparalleled in their physicians, staff, and services. I am forever grateful to them for saving Amos' life.

Sunshine Animal Hospital
recently my daughter, whom is attending college in Springfield, had to leave her cat with her Dad, by the time we got back to pick the cat up he was in bad shape, when she arrived back here I was not sure if the cat would survive. I called around to all animal vets. finally took the cat to this place, the staff was awesome, friendly, concerned, got us in immediately, kept the cat , called us regularly for update, and as of today her cat is doing GREAT. I would recommend this place to anyone, prices are reasonable,Vets and staff are very dedicated, I would like to thank all at the Sunshine Hospital for the good work they did, they made our Christmas and New Year complete.Never thought I would say this but to see her cat climbing the Christmas Tree has been an awarding experience.Would recommend this clinic to anyone.Becky Yocom

Healing Paws Veterinary Clinic
Healing Paws Veterinary Clinic is by far the BEST vet I have been to in Springfield MO. The place looks great and is always clean. The staff is very friendly and polite, happily greeting clients and their pets. Lauren is great at what she does and always returns phone calls when there is a concern. Dr. Ross is AMAZING with my two cats. She has been the most caring, understanding, and honest vet I have been to. She takes her time and truly wants what is best for my kitties. She has gone over and beyond to help my one special needs kitty and without her time, skills, and kindness – he would not be with me today. She truly wants to help the patients she sees. I have since moved from the Springfield area and have yet to find a Vet like her. I highly and truly recommend Healing Paws Veterinary Clinic.

Carlson Pet Hospital
my cat got atttacked by a pit bull. when we took her to the vet she had punchered intestines and herina in her back end. she had to have part of her intestines removed and put back together. and had several puncher wounds. she was in the clinic for several days. they kept in contact with us about her well being and how she was being cared for. they called me every day to update me and i talked to the surgeon several times. i finally got to take her home and they continued to call and check on her. making sure that i was handling giving her meds to her and check on her progress. it took several weeks...but she finally got back to eating drinking and roaming the house again. and now she is playing with her doggie best friend. and only thanks to the carlson vet clinic and all this staff.

Bradford Park Veterinary Hospital
Our family are long time clients of Bradford Park and Grant Avenue. Our dog's have received top quality care and the doctor's are always engaging and care about the comfort of the dogs.I am disappointed to learn Amy Blevins, long time staff member and manager, is no longer associated with either Hospital. Amy was the reason I stayed with BP/GA after a negative experience with a current front desk person. Amy reassured me I would not need to interact with the hater [my word] and she would make sure future visits were professional and smooth. She kept her promise. It's unfortunate BP/GA were sold to National Veterinary Associates, a corporate business. The first time the personal touch I appreciated about BP/GA and Amy disappears, I'll be looking for a new veterinary facility.
Tips & Advices
Bring medical records and medications that your pet is taking. Also, you should bring your ID and a form of payment.
Yes, there are veterinary clinics that only deal with emergency cases. They generally take walk-ins and referrals from family vets.
Yes, emergency vets treat dental emergencies and dental trauma. Freshly fractured teeth are the main category of dental injury that vets consider an emergency.
To prevent health emergencies, experts recommend supervising one’s pets, and trying to make sure they don’t get into emergency situations. A majority of emergency vet visits happen because animals were struck by cars, bit by other animals, or ingested toxins. Otherwise, the best way to prevent emergencies is by having a go-to vet you can call with any questions, and being vigilant about potential symptoms (i.e. runny stool, or trouble walking) as they appear but before they become extremely serious.
Experts say that the conditions that necessitate an emergency veterinarian visit include collapse, seizures, inability to walk, partial paralysis, and any difficulty breathing (non-stop panting, constant coughing, hyperventilation, or elevated heart rate). Gum color is often an indicator that something is wrong--especially blue gums or very pale gums. Excessive vomiting or a distended abdomen should be considered an emergency situation. Signs of any trauma or excessive bleeding should send your pet straight to the vet. Lastly, for cat owners, urinary obstruction is fatal if not treated, and generally occurs in male cats.
