Cracker Barrel Old Country Store
My wife and I eat dinner at this restaurant several times monthly and always get good food and good service. However, on 7/14/17 two of my grandson's and I stopped for breakfast. We were promptly seated and had our order taken. Our food was served by a waitress who didn't take our order. My order was wrong. After waiting for nearly 5 minutes our waitress finally appeared from the doorway into the kitchen and finally looked our way at which time I motioned that I would like to see her. I told her I didn't get the biscuits and gravy with my order at which point she told me it didn't come with my meal. I didn't order a particular meal, just eggs, hash browns, turkey sausage, biscuits and gravy and a pancake. I let it ride--I could manage without the biscuits and gravy since she told me I wasn't charged for it. From that point on, we were totally ignored. Our waitress wouldn't even look towards our table although she was helping others around us. She never offered me another cup of coffee or asked if we needed anything. We were totally ignored from that point on. I know waiting on tables is a difficult job and I understand that someone can be overwhelmed and forget to do certain things but the restaurant wasn't busy. There was another large table near us full of people but another waitress was handling it. Our waitress only had two other tables besides ours. For some reason, based on her bias, she didn't like us. It was obvious. Maybe because I'm profoundly hard of hearing or maybe because of the color of my skin, I don't know. I spoke with the manager who offered to take my name and see what she could do. I was so upset, I just wanted to get out of the hostile environment so I just left. I don't want anything free but IMO, the manage should have taken some off our bill and made the waitress pay for it but she didn't offer to do so. It's going to take a while before I frequent another Cracker Barrel.

Cook's Spice Rack & Chili
We stopped in for dinner and both ordered a salad bowl. We were satisfied with what we got. The restaurant is small with a dozen or so tables, but neat and cozy with decorations on the walls.

Laketown Animal Hospital
Outstanding doctors and groomers. Compassionate, knowledgeable and thoughtful. I have taken my pets there for over 30 years. They're excellent and the hospital is always clean. Love 'em.

We just love Dr. Myers and her staff. They always treat our fur babies as if they were their own. Couldn't ask for a better group of people.
Boone's Saloon
Great food, friendly staff! Their appetizers, horseshoes and burgers are outstanding. Best beer garden in Springfield. Boone's is off the beaten path but is worth the effort for a visit.

Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
