Animal Emergency Clinic
My experience with this clinic was nothing short of wonderful. I was greeted by a very compassionate staff at 1 am upon discovering my lab had ingested a portion of her Kong toy. They immediately began treating her as soon as we entered the building. I never went more than 20 minutes without someone coming out to update me. Dr. Jones and her staff made me feel completely at ease. I knew that they were the perfect team to care for my four legged child. To be an after hours emergency vet, I was shocked by how reasonable my bill was! It was much lower than I had expected. The facility is also clean, state of the art and fabulously decorated! Thank you again for making sure that we have this care available in the middle of the night.

Cat Doctor The
I have used The Cat Doctor for almost 10 yrs. Dr. Pam and the entire staff are the nicest, most caring people in this profession. I can walk in with my cats just to socialize anytime. They always have feral cats up for adoption, with NO adoption fee. Dr. Pam will take the time to discuss different issues & treatments with you. She is absolutely WONDERFUL!The boarding rooms are like a play land for cats, clean, always smells so nice. I don't usually write reviews but I just had to write this one and let you know, you can bring your cat here with confidence that they will get the BEST, most loving care here :)

I had an absolutely amazing experience! They were quick, but thorough. I've been over-charged by veterinarians in the past, but they brought me out a price list before they did anything. There prices were reasonable and whole assortment of tests and medications for my dog cost me less than my usual trips to the vet. Also, two of the doctors on staff, besides the one seeing us, came in and introduced themselves to me. It really made me feel like they legitimately care about animals. I have found my permanent vet!

There is no animal care in Shreveport that can compare to that of UVH. Dr. Adam Foret and Dr. Catherine Foret are two of the most caring and knowledgeable in the field. When I switched from another clinic to theirs, they had already obtained my pet's records and studied them (not just glanced at them) before I arrived. When I lost a pet, everyone in the clinic wrote a personal note on a card they sent. They truly shared my grief. I know my pets are VIPs at UVH!

Our dogs have been treated and boarded at UVH for years. As soon as we walk in the door the doctors and staff greet us with care. Our dogs love it! The clinic is clean, organized, and professional. We recently had to rush our dog to UVH after he started acting strange. They immediately started treating our dog, and I believe their expertise saved our dog that day. We are very grateful for the UVH doctors and staff and highly recommend them.

Animal Emergency Clinic
Spent over 5 hours waiting and over $300.00 later and I still have to take my dog to my vet tomorrow. Was not happy with my visit.
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
