Ratcliff Animal Hospital
Ratcliff Animal Hospital is the place to go if you love your pet like a member of the family and only want the very best for them. The staff is just wonderful. They are loving , caring people. And they all have so much knowledge. Most of them have worked for Dr. Ratcliff for years and have learned so much. Now about the doc. There is no way I can tell you how much we love this man. He has been the answer to prayers for us. He has been our vet through 3 Great Danes. Jasper lived to be 10 1/2. He had lung cancer. Doctor Ratcliff never gave up on him. He was there fighting for his life to the end. And then Ellie Mae. She lived 11years 4 months. This is very long for a Great Dane whose life span is usually around 6 to8 years. She was diabetic and blind the last couple years of her life. She took insulin twice a day and did just great. It was not easy. The doc had to work with her constantly to keep her blood sugar regulated, but he did. She was happy and did just great. Now we have Winston. He is a miracle. He contracted Babesia when he was a year old through a tic bite. Any other vet would have given up. But the doc called doctors all over the United States. He studied, he prayed and he kept his game face on so I would not freak out. There were some hard times. Blood transfusions, flying in medicine from Vegas on the fastest thing smoking and other drastic measures. ANd as for Winston, He is laying beside me right now snoring like a bull. We are so greatful. And line ave. emergency vet fought for his life twice during this time. He was rushed there with 106 temp. just for starts. They were great! I know some people do not like them. They are all business and to the point. They have to be. It is an emergency clinic. There is not time to baby anyone, especially owners . If you need a hug, then take a friend. The people there will be busy saving your pets life. Did I mention that Dr. Ratcliff is so kind and caring to all pets and to their owners. When I had to have one of my Danes put down because she just was old and played out. The entire staff encluding Doc. cried with me as we held her while she went to sleep. I pray everyday for Dr. Ratcliffs health. There will never be another like him. He is the best. I wish we could give him a hundred stars.

Animal Emergency Clinic
My experience with this clinic was nothing short of wonderful. I was greeted by a very compassionate staff at 1 am upon discovering my lab had ingested a portion of her Kong toy. They immediately began treating her as soon as we entered the building. I never went more than 20 minutes without someone coming out to update me. Dr. Jones and her staff made me feel completely at ease. I knew that they were the perfect team to care for my four legged child. To be an after hours emergency vet, I was shocked by how reasonable my bill was! It was much lower than I had expected. The facility is also clean, state of the art and fabulously decorated! Thank you again for making sure that we have this care available in the middle of the night.

Cat Doctor The
I have used The Cat Doctor for almost 10 yrs. Dr. Pam and the entire staff are the nicest, most caring people in this profession. I can walk in with my cats just to socialize anytime. They always have feral cats up for adoption, with NO adoption fee. Dr. Pam will take the time to discuss different issues & treatments with you. She is absolutely WONDERFUL!The boarding rooms are like a play land for cats, clean, always smells so nice. I don't usually write reviews but I just had to write this one and let you know, you can bring your cat here with confidence that they will get the BEST, most loving care here :)

Robinson's Rescue Spay/Neuter Facility
I took my small male dog in on 10.2.12 and was very pleased with the people who worked their and the treatment given my Butchie. I read the other reviews before taking him in and was appalled at the comments. My neighbor has volunteered at the new location and I called her. She gave me a 5 star report on her impression of them. I'm glad I listened to her and not the people who had given their poor reviews; In the future if these people who reported they had been spoken rudely to would listen to theirselves maybe they would realize why someone seemed rude to them. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ROBINSON RESCUE.

University Veterinary Hospital
I had an absolutely amazing experience! They were quick, but thorough. I've been over-charged by veterinarians in the past, but they brought me out a price list before they did anything. There prices were reasonable and whole assortment of tests and medications for my dog cost me less than my usual trips to the vet. Also, two of the doctors on staff, besides the one seeing us, came in and introduced themselves to me. It really made me feel like they legitimately care about animals. I have found my permanent vet!

University Veterinary Hospital
There is no animal care in Shreveport that can compare to that of UVH. Dr. Adam Foret and Dr. Catherine Foret are two of the most caring and knowledgeable in the field. When I switched from another clinic to theirs, they had already obtained my pet's records and studied them (not just glanced at them) before I arrived. When I lost a pet, everyone in the clinic wrote a personal note on a card they sent. They truly shared my grief. I know my pets are VIPs at UVH!

University Veterinary Hospital
Our dogs have been treated and boarded at UVH for years. As soon as we walk in the door the doctors and staff greet us with care. Our dogs love it! The clinic is clean, organized, and professional. We recently had to rush our dog to UVH after he started acting strange. They immediately started treating our dog, and I believe their expertise saved our dog that day. We are very grateful for the UVH doctors and staff and highly recommend them.

Robinson's Rescue Spay/Neuter Facility
My 3-4 month old kitten was neutered here. Their team took very good care of him and the surgery was done very well. His recovery was remarkable. The office team is quick and efficient. This business offers financial assistance (free service) for low income Louisiana residents, but there every day prices are VERY affordable.

Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
