Dr. Lewis C Jones, MD
Dr. Milstead is an exemplary surgeon & human being. In 1984, when I was 16, I cut my right thumb off in a table saw accident. Dr. Milstead took care of my like I was his own child. Unfortunately the saw did too much damage to my thumb so it had to be removed 7 days after Dr. Milstead reattached it. For the next 5 years Dr. Milstead used his GREAT talents to allow me to once again be able fully use my right hand again. I was right handed and thanks to Dr. Milstead still right handed. I will ALWAYS be appreciative to Dr. Milstead for what he has done for me. I continue to see Dr. Milstead from time to time over the last 30 years and I consider him a friend. I have trusted him to perform surgery on my hand over 10 times. I can't say enough about how a AWESOME Doctor and person he is.

Very helpful and knowledgeable, makes you feel comfortable. I would highly recommend dr van norman, He exceeded my expectations of eye surgery. I have 20/20 vision !!! I came from dry eyes, red eyes, not being comfortable wearing contacts. I could not see distance or up close very well. After my surgery I see wonderful colors and crisp clean details. With my busy schedule and traveling. I have my sight back. Meeting him has changed my life.

Dr. Van Norman is very thorough in explaining options regarding cataract surgery. This made the decision process so much easier. The surgery itself was equally easy, painless and produced an excellent result. My vision in my right eye was immediately improved after surgery. I will have the left eye surgery in a week.

AS a marksman, having to see both long range and close up is critical. Dr. Norman is very interested to learning how I use my eyesite during this process. He then comes u p with the best solution to accommodate my needs. Never had this interaction before with a Doctor, love it. Thanks for the hard work.

I love this doctor and his nurses. My appointments were quick and he had wonderful bedside manners. Even when I was giving birth to my daughter, me and him were joking around about stuff and having general conversations. His nurses and staff are wonderful too.

Tips & Advices
Academic medical centers provide the widest range of specialty care treatments, including the latest technological advances, clinical trials, and surgical techniques. In general, an academic medical center is a better choice than a community hospital for complicated treatments or rare diseases. Pediatric intensive care, especially, is usually performed at academic medical centers.
Academic medical centers offer a broad range of specialized services, from allergists to urologists. Some of the larger medical centers have entire hospitals or clinics focused on a particular medical service, such as cancer treatment, though specialties vary among the centers. Patients whose community hospital or local doctors do not have the facilities or expertise to address complex medical conditions can be referred by their primary care physician or local specialist to a major medical center (there are more than a dozen in the United States).
Yes. In addition to their inpatient hospital services, medical centers can offer a wide variety of outpatient services, such as pain clinics, rehabilitation centers, surgery, imaging and laboratory, mental health treatment, and outpatient cancer treatment. Medical groups – doctors in private practice but affiliated with the medical center--will also have offices within the medical center.
Physicians, nurses, physician’s assistants, residents, and attending physicians makeup the clinical staff of an academic medical center.
Medical center accreditation is not required, but most centers work voluntarily toward accreditation because it represents higher standards of healthcare quality and patient safety.
