I've frequented the two downtown Specialty's quite often over years of working downtown. The one on 3rd and the one by Uwajimaya have been nothing but fantastic. The food at this Specialty's shares the same qualities, but the service has been out of sorts on most of my visits.
Most recently they couldn't get it together for the breakfast rush and had a large crowd of people waiting for breakfast sandwiches and food coming out of the kitchen slowly and very out of order, despite being the same items. It shouldn't take 20 minutes for a breakfast sandwich. People who had been waiting more than 5 minutes longer than us were still waiting when people who ordered well after us got their food. Staff seemed flustered and like they just didn't know what to do. Someone gave up waiting and asked for cold pastries instead just to get out the door.
The food is very good, but if I'm valuing my time, I walk to the one on 3rd instead. It's too much of a crap shoot otherwise.
I just went there today. The guy at the counter was really rude. Then I get home and there is a toothpick in my sandwich. Not like it was used to hold the sandwich together standing straight, but stuck in there flat with the lettuce so if I had bitten into it wrong it would have poked the roof of my mouth. Totally malicious.
i used to work a few blocks from this location so I often frequented it. twice i was given the incorrect breakfast sandwich after waiting for 10 minutes after ordering it. I also got their kiwi yogurt once and it had unripe, chewy kiwi in it. most of their food is good though, you just have to make sure that you get what you order. their carrot bran muffins are amazing! I have also been cheated out of my drink a few times during lunch rush.
