YP - The Real Yellow PagesSM - helps you find the right local businesses to meet your specific needs. Search results are sorted by a combination of factors to give you a set of choices in response to your search criteria. These factors are similar to those you might use to determine which business to select from a local Yellow Pages directory, including proximity to where you are searching, expertise in the specific services or products you need, and comprehensive business information to help evaluate a business's suitability for you. “Preferred” listings, or those with featured website buttons, indicate YP advertisers who directly provide information about their businesses to help consumers make more informed buying decisions. YP advertisers receive higher placement in the default ordering of search results and may appear in sponsored listings on the top, side, or bottom of the search results page.

7.De Charlene's Beauty & Boutique
2108 E Madison St
De Charlene Williams declared at age 4: I want my own beauty shop, my own clothing shop, my own hat shop. Her mothers friends would ask, Where did you get a daughter like that? But De Charlene was self-assured and certain. About 20 years later, in 1968, having worked three jobs to save $6,500, she found the building on Madison Street thats still home to De Charlenes Beauty & Boutique. Even with one-fifth down and good credit, she couldnt find a bank willing to give a business loan to a single, black woman with two kids. De Charlene went to 30 area banks, and all turned me down, she said. But struggles as a kid led her to this idea: When people would say you cant, I would say, yes I can. She changed the name on the loan application to C.W. Williams and the 31st time worked. Then they did not know it was a woman, she said. Shes since founded the Central Area Chamber of Commerce, has been grand marshal of at least three parades, been local businesswoman of the year, attended the Million Woman March and President Obamas inauguration in Washington, D.C., and had a cameo in an Alice In Chains video. She ran for mayor against Norm Rice in 1993 with only a couple thousand dollars. He would not debate me. I wanted to raise the issue of jobs. We needed jobs. De Charlene got 1,476 votes. She designs her own hats, and I do all races of hair. Whats closest to her heart is her dream of making every woman beautiful. I love glitz and I love my work.

I've been here a couple of times now and I will keep going back. \r \r Quality does change with each student, especially dependent on how long they've been training, but I've always had an above par experience with each dresser. \r \r I'm male and only go in for cuts; they always get it right and I've even let them experiement a bit (one dresser asked if she could go a bit ""funky"" with the cut) and I liked what she did so much that it's my normal request now.\r \r Always polite, always friendly, those students have the best attitudes.\r \r NOTE: The students do not get money for the cuts! They only make tips, the actual charge for the cut goes to the institute. Because of this, my tip always equals the amount of they charge for the cut because it just doesn't seem fair to me that they aren't earning that money for the work.

Wow, talk about customer service! They treat you like a queen (or king) from the minute you walk in the door. Everyone introduces themselves to you and shakes your hand. They make sure you have something to drink and are very social. A lot of upscale salons, the staff seem stuck up and rude, ignoring you and treating you like you are not good enough. But not at Sassoon Salon! They make you feel special and welcome. \r \r I had about 4 or 5 people work on me, which is a bit unusual. I am just used to one person who takes you to the chair, shampoos your hair and does your cut. But they had a different person for each of those tasks.\r \r The salon's decor is real nice and the bathrooms are pretty cool too. They have kind of a futuristic look to them.\r \r When you leave they give you coupons for your next visit, and give you the business cards of all the staff who worked on you.\r \r I got a hair cut and deep conditioning treatment. It was fabulous! The scalp massage you get is truly amazing! So refreshing and sooooo good!\r \r Fabulous Salon!
