5.West County Driving Instruction
Traffic SchoolsDriving Proficiency Test ServiceDriving Instruction
West County Driving Instruction has been serving the St. Louis metro area since 2005. The company's only instructor, Patrick Guilfoy, is a regular speaker at area schools and community events. Patrick, along with his wife and children, has been a Kirkwood resident for 36 years. Patrick has eight years experience as an instructor. After teaching over 1700 students, Patrick has honed his lesson plans to fit the needs of a large range of students with varying levels of driving experience. The average student usually has slight experience, but he also helps more experienced drivers to sharpen their defensive driving skills. Whatever your experience and needs, we have the ability to shape a lesson plan that will focus on whatever goal you have, whether it is learning the basics, passing the state driving test or simply becoming a safer driver. The vehicle used in the lessons is a mid-size 2007 Taurus with a second brake on the passenger side for the instructor. Please note that the first lesson is usually given in the Taurus because of the second brake. Subsequent lessons can be in the student's vehicle, especially the last when the practice test is taken at the exam site. Some students request a certificate of completion for insurance purposes. We can provide this at no extra cost, as long as the student has passed the instructor's approved standards, usually a minimum of 4 hours of instruction. Other individuals that Patrick has taught are drivers with physical and cognitive disabilities. Foreign students, including au pairs, are welcome. Please note: Even though the goal of the instruction is to pass the state driving exam, there is no guarantee that a student will pass the state exam. This is ultimately the responsibility of the student. If the student does not display the ability to improve their driving skills to take the test, the instructor will advise suspending the lessons. We will never "sell" additional lessons at the expense of our students. Because Patrick is West County's only instructor, we can guarantee an experienced, professional instructor for your needs. There is never an "Instructor-in-Training" that some of the larger driving schools send out. Neither West County Driving Instruction nor Patrick Guilfoy are affiliated or connected with any state motor vehicle department.

I once attended MTC. When I arrived out there, for some reason I had such the strangest feeling of being at that place for some odd reason. I have never experienced such a feeling in my life like I did this particular time. I attended classes for a few days and finally determined I could not go through with this, mainly due to the fact that completion was going to be longer than promised. The school gave me a projected time frame of taking my road test within a month. I talked with multiple guys who were in the program in excess of one month and they did not have their CDL's yet and even told me that they have not taken one road test yet and were still waiting. The school tells me that those who have been in attendance in excess of one month have either failed their road test previously or failed the school's training criteria to continue to CDL. This was not the case with most of these men I spoke with. I paid in full when I arrived an amount just under $4,000. The contract stated that I am entitle to a pro-rated refund mailed to me in 30-60 days. I never received my refund from MTC. I would make several contacts to the business indicating that I have not received my refund and have left multiple voice mails. The calls were never returned. I finally filed a complaint with the St. Louis Better Business Bureau and I consulted an attorney to contact the school on my behalf via US Mail. After the letter, I contacted the school and finally reached the gentleman responsible for this matter. He provided me with the excuse that he has been out of the office for a set period of time. I mentioned that being out of the office is no reason for anyone to not contact me due to the fact that the person delegated to handle his tasks in his absence could have handled this during the time. He gave me the excuse that no such person is delegated during his absence an unprofessional way to operate a business). He also would not discuss the matter because I retained an attorney, therefore the school's attorney must handle my complaint. He refused to provide me with the name of the law firm handling the matter. The law firm never contacted me. A month later after waiting and waiting and waiting, my attorney advised me to file a claim with my credit card company since most major credit card providers offer buyer protection. Luckily I paid for my schooling with a major credit card issued my Bank of America. BOA was very helpful as they attempted to contact MTC with no response or no legitimate response, allowing BOA to provide me with a full refund. My advise is if you are wanting to pursue truck driver training, your best option is to pursue a local training program. Most community colleges offer a truck driver training program at a reasonable rate and you may also be able to seek assistance through a displaced worker program or similar. Research CDL training schools in your local area before making a decision to enroll in a truck driver training program.
