As an engineer, I know what I am talking about. I have two Merc's at my vacation home on Holmes Beach an S500 and a SLK 350. Mike has maintained these for several years and I have no complaints about his competency, professionalism or his fairness. I was quoted around $7 K by Mercedes in Sarasota because of a leaking condensation tray on the SLK. They wanted to switch out the compressor, condenser and evaporator. Mike replaced the $6 piece of pipe for $86 including labor and R134a. I then had him do a top to bottom service, the fuel filter being the most expensive part as it is a fuel tank out job. Check the brakes, change oil, air, transmission, fuel, cabin a/c filters. Transmission fluid, brake fluid, plugs. With the fuel filter being a 3-4 hour job around $1 K including tax. I would recommend him to anyone. I undertake all my own maintenance at my home in the Caribbean, I even have a two post car lift, but not so in the US. Mike is straight and honest, and when he could have ripped me off he charged me $86 ??? When people resort to abusive language rather than an eloquent argument you can pretty much discount their dribble completely.

Gary's Auto Repair Service Inc
Gary's Auto Repair was amazing! I was having a very bad day, just lost my job, I had been at for over 5 years, and then my car decided to break down. I didn't know where to go; I’ve never taken my car to a mechanic other than to have my oil changed. I didn’t want to be taken advantage of , I was going to need to conserve my savings. I called a few places, they said it could be from $150-300 just to test and diagnose what was wrong. I called a friend, who recommended Gary’s. I called and spoke to Marie. She assured me that Gary would test and diagnose my car and give me an estimate for free. She also recommended a towing service to me. I finally got there and met Gary and his assistant Shane, they were such nice, caring people. After about 30 minutes Gary had figured out what was wrong and gave me a great estimate, very affordable. I'm happy to say I am back in the road again thanks to the wonderful people at Gary's auto repair!! I will recommend him to all my family & friends!

This guy is great! We thought we needed a new battery and he told us we didn't and checked our battery to prove it. We needed the terminal replaced. 2 yr old Nissan and it was all corroded. He ran around on a Saturday afternoon, found the part and replaced it. He had a heck of a time getting the old one off as it was so corroded but he was very patient and persistent and finally got it. Would def call him again if we ever have the need while visiting in Sarasota. Oh, and he's not 24 hrs, 9-6, but he did answer the phone late on a Friday night. Thanks so much Ashly!!!

Tim's Auto Svc
at the recommendation of a friend, i have gone nowhere else but tim's auto for over a decade now. amongst all of the businesses i have frequented, they are hands down the most reliable, communicative, reasonable, and most importantly, honest folks i've had the pleasure of dealing with. i've had everything from oil changes and once-overs to new engines installed at this shop, and i have never once been disappointed. prices are fair and they will always tell you exactly what and what does not need to be done. i recommend tim's auto to everyone i know!

Me and my entire family have been going to Gary for many years to get our cars fixed. He is very nice and generous. He has always come through with his work and given me the best price and when my financials weren't the best he worked with me to still get the job done at a price I could afford because he knew I needed to get my car back on the road safe to get to work and get my kids around. He is an all around great guy and even better mechanic.

S & S Mercedes Service and Repair
The guys at S&S are awesome. I used to got to Sarasota Auto Werks but after Rex tried to rob me of $4000+ dollars on a repair that consisted of replacing my exhaust manifolds, turbo and cat converter.... I took it to S&S for a second opinion and it ended up being a $115 boost pressure hose. Have been going there ever since. Great service, on point diagnostics every time, clean shop and cheaper than anyone else in town.

Baker's Garage
Ever hear of an honest auto repair shop?! Me neither, at least until I went to Baker's in Oneco area. I found one! I had a car overheating, took couple of places for estimates. Both quickly told me I needed much engine work at cost of $1500 or more. Went to Baker's, they put on water pump and repaired fan motor. cost was $125!! WOW!! Much lower than $1500!!! Car was fine!!

Bassitt's Automotive Service Inc
The most honest mechanic I have ever met. Every time I have dropped my car off, I get this feeling that I and my car are going to get special treatment. Excellent diagnostics and honesty has become what I expect from Bassitt's. I was recommended Bassitt's from friends and now know 30-40 loyal Bassitt clients who all have great things to say about Bassitt's.

TanzTech Auto Repair
I've been a customer for over 6 years. I've owned and operated my own business on automotive domestic repairs. I've sublet and have referred all my European vehicle repairs to Mike. I personally as a customer and my referred customers have expressed favorable feedback. I highly recommend and trust Mike Tanz Tech for all your European repairs.
Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
