Avila Family Law
Worst lawyer ever! I made the mistake of hiring her for my divorce. Her up front charge was $5,000. She begged and pleaded the court to be the first case of the day, because she was leaving on vacation. She showed up an hour late because she was out partying all night with all of my money and her alarm didn't go off. The judge was livid and nearly threw out my case. She falsely charged for phone conversations we never had, or charged for full hour long calls when we only spoke for seconds or minutes. She never had a clue what she was doing or what was happening on my case because she was always texting or talking to her party girl friends on her cell. She blew through my money in a matter of days and had the nerve to bill me for another $2,500 she said I owed her, plus another $2,500 to continue representing me. I told her to bite me and that if I received any further bills or notices that I would see HER in court. Never heard from the that slimy, lying crook again! Do NOT use this sad excuse for a lawyer, EVER!!!!

In the roughly 30 years that Jeff has been my attorney, he has helped me through a lot of the typical legal situations that come up in life. He is calm, knowledgeable, reasonable, and thorough. Thank you, Jeff, for all the help over all the years. Long may you continue to practice! All the best,Lynn McGonagill

Sherry F. Ellis, P.A.
A three month hospitalization including spinal surgery and my failure to having secured medical insurance beforehand totally wiped out both my checking account and my savings account . Declaring bankruptcy seemed like one more nightmare to deal with , but Sherry took every bit of stress off my mind and explained in detail how she would work through the steps for me . All I had to concern myself with was to recover from my illness . She's a real professional and knows exactly how to both reassure her clients and to navigate the complicated process . My case is now ready to close , my credit is good and I am so very glad that Sherry had been recommended to me when things seemed so hopeless.

Hillebrand ESQ H.Stephen Atty
He went into court asking who helped the children with homework instead of asking appropriate questions like how many time did your children watch you beat your wife or why is the unlicensed drug using babysitter driving the children around without carseats or seatbelts? If your looking for a good attorney he is NOT who you want to hire.

So we had an accident on 8-12. Contacted this group on 8-15. We were instructed to see an MD on 8-29, which is after the 14 day deadline for max PiP (personal injury protection) provided by most insurance companies and my wife lost out on over $7500 in medical coverage. My case was settled with my insurance company on 12-20 the same year as the accident. It's now 3-31 and I'm still receiving collection calls from various medical professions these guys were supposed to pay off with the settlement money. BE VERY CAUTIOUS of this law firm.
Tips & Advices
Some immigration processes can take months or even years to resolve. USCIS posts an online list for each field office that shows current processing times for common applications, such as ones for permanent residency, citizenship and proof of citizenship. These estimates provide a sense of the current backlog. An immigration attorney will usually monitor these timelines for you and communicate any updates.
An immigration lawyer might request copies of numerous documents, including a birth certificate, passport, letters from employers, proofs of address, income tax returns and photos/correspondence with family (if you are applying for an immigration benefit via a spouse or family member).
Yes, if you want them to. While an attorney cannot directly answer a USCIS agent’s questions, he or she can provide support and clarification during the interview. Having an attorney present is generally a good idea if you are involved in a complex immigration case.
Yes, for applications such as an adjustment of status (for example, going from a tourist visa to a green card) and citizenship, it is usually a good idea to agree upon a fixed rate that covers all paperwork and responses to evidence requests. This can save you money compared to an rate based on billable hours.
Fee schedules vary significantly depending on the case type. Immigration lawyers usually charge for both the required application fees from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and for their services. Longer, more complex cases such as deportation defenses are more expensive than simpler matters like completing a citizenship application.
