I'd never heard of this restaurant when I was asked to do a mystery shop for brunch. That was over a year ago and I've been back at least once per month since - always for brunch. It quickly became my 'go to' spot to celebrate birthdays, which, as luck would have it, have all fallen on weekends. I've tried the eggs benedict, eggs Benedict on crab cakes, and French toast. Guests have had omelets and lunch items. Meals are served with delicious mini muffins. Not only is the food tasty, but the view overlooking the harbor is what makes this my favorite spot to take guests.

My girlfriend had eaten here before and suggested we go there for dinner. Our waitress was very friendly and checked in on us often. We each ordered a pasta dish and realized we could've just as soon split one as the bowls were very large. It almost seems like a sports bar on the inside so I'm glad we sat outside. It can get very cold at night with the ocean breeze so even with heatlamps, its a good idea to have layers of clothing.

This is our first stop everytime we vist Santa Cruz, usually for breakfast. The service, food and view are fantastic! Can't beat the ocean view and boats coming in and out of the marina, your able to sit inside or out on the deck; not a bad seat in the house.

The Crow's Nest upstairs, outdoor patio is a must if you are visiting the harbor and beach area. While the menu downstairs is more robust (and pricier), the upstairs patio has a great selection of drinks and food (fish tacos are delicious).

Michael's on Main in Soquel, not only has great cocktail drink specials, but the food is fantastic. My lady friends and I had a blast last weekend. Thank you for showing us what we have been missing out on. Pricing is very realistic for the service and quality of food. Seared Ahi Tuna was one of our favorites.

I LOVE Hoffmans, they are always so professional and have fantastic cakes. I've been ordering all my birthday cakes from them and their signature chocolate in a sheet cake is fantastic. Also, they do not even charge for air brushing pictures on them, they are so unique and beautiful. Its nice to finally have a good, reasonably priced bakery in Santa Cruz. We just had a huge Valentine's day party and everyone loved the signature chocolate cake! I've never had so many compliments and inquiries regarding a cake before!

On Jan 28, 2011, I had the most respectful, most acomadating togo on the phone service! He read the menu to me that I asked for, Miguel was quick, polite, and actually improved my outlook on the rest of my night!

3/18/2014 The lamb kebab and Chappe (beef kebab) were tender and flavorful. The garlic naan was excellent. Nichole was a very helpful waitress. They have a wonderful red-- spice table condiment in place of black pepper. I would have bought a pound of it, dut it isn't for sale. We will be repeat customers.

The food was flavorful with a homey quality about it. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it was nice with plants and attractive lighting. The waitress was very good, but clearly overwhelmed. It took some time for our food to arrive, but it came with a smile. The dahl was delicious, as was everything else.

Overall, the ambiance is very nice for a local place. The servers are exceptional and drinks are well made. We went in for their Prime rib special but and it was ok. The mashed potatoes were sticky and my Prime Rib requested medium rare came well done. The vegetables were "al dente" and tasty. I can deal with sending the PRib back but the mashed potatoes should be replaced with baked potato. I will say that their Ahi Tuna salad is the bomb!! I will go back because I am loyal to local businesses.

Chile Verde and Crab Enchilada both were very tasty. A bit spicy for some, not me or my companion. Best Chile Verde I've ever had in Santa Cruz. Of course Chile Verde has sucked in Santa Cruz throughout my 45 years living here.
26.O'Mei Chinese Cuisine
2316 Mission St
O'mei has been my very favorite restaurant for easily twenty years. Every aspect of O'mei is quality - from the impeccable service (often the waitstaff amazes me by memorizing my order), to the fresh food, seasonal menus in accordance with what's locally fresh and available, and the wide array of intense flavors. I always begin with the red oil dumplings, which must always be a large order (at least); move over, potstickers, these little gems are addictive. They're hot, but very pleasantly so - you can feel the endorphins kick in - and the heat doesn't mask the distinct chili flavor of the oil, which contrasts so perfectly with the mild dumplings. (Go ahead, try to be cool with chopsticks with these slippery little devils). Before these arrive, your waitperson will offer you a variety of small dishes - sesame cashews, marinated seaweed, among several other delicacies. Every dish I've had here is always very fresh - the flavor of the crisply tender asparagus is only accentuated by the black bean sauce, not covered by it, and the pungency of the rosemary brings taste buds to life when grilled with the chicken. A staple in my diet is O'mei's gan pung chicken; no one has ever come close to perfecting this dish like they have. Tender, crispy chicken combined with an indescribable sweet/spicy sauce - lots of sweet garlic and shreds of black mushrooms make this dish a must-have. Don't expect to order artificially red sweet and sour pork here, and you won't get fried won tons. Think fresh food, huge variety, lots of veggies, expertly made and presented, all with an Asian flair, and that's O'mei.

The food was better than expected. If you get there early (5-6ish) there is room to sit and relax while sipping creative drinks, it gets very crowded and very hot as the evening goes on.

We live down the street by Sunny Cove Beach and we have watched Star Bene (our neighborhood gem) change ownership a few times. Sergio and his wife took over the restaurant along with a partner - The partner is now gone (good thing- the negative things that were happening to the restaurant seemed to disappear when she did) - The restaurant is back on track! From the moment we walk into the restaurant we are greeted by one of the owners, from that moment on the food, service, ambiance is great! The prices have been lowered and the food is great for the price. The past negative reviews were when the other owner was there and honestly this restaurant is a restaurant that everyone needs to check out again! Our dinners have been excellent! We are thrilled to see that the hard work and dedication that the owners have put into this restaurant is paying off! I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant - I consider myself a ""foodie"" and this is a restaurant not to be missed! The specials are not to be missed!

Jacks burger has such great burgers, but the staff are rude. The women in the front that answers the phone is so rude, and she messed up my order so many times on different days that I call. The guys that make the burgers do such a great job and I hate going to this place because the hispanic women is sooooo rude!!!! Hopefully they change their staff because being rude doesn't get you no where in life. But I highly recommend you get their burgers their amazing, just hopefully you don't get the hispanic woman she's horrible!

I really like Shogun. I think the fish and meats are much better than most Sushi places around here, the flavors are really tasty, and the servings are ample. \r The service on the other hand, is not the greatest. We waited a long time for pretty much everything, starting with the water. This place is pretty busy, so I guess that should be expected. \r Anyway, this place is worth a shot. The food is definitely worth it.
