Java Junction
I have been coming to this place for years. The manager enjoys humiliating you when you ask for a key to the toilet or anything else. Food and drinks are great but not at the risk of being insulted. Too bad. I liked the place.

Shen's Gallery
Simply magical place. First shopped at Shen's in 2000 when they had their warehouse location, then made a point to stop at their "new" Mission St. location ever since. We made some major purchases (keepsake antique Chinese cabinets and chests), decorative found items, tea sets, porcelain boxes and more. Each time we visit, the staff (or the owner) is present and asks us if we want hot tea while we shop. Highly recommend if you love Chinese antiques.

Harbor Cafe
I was surprised to read some poor reviews, considering we've been going to this place for years. It's only open until 2pm, and jam packed, especially on weekends. Expect to wait and be patient - there is free coffee (and sometimes hot cocoa for your kids if you're friendly) and when staffed, the outdoor bar serves up mimosas, bloody marys and the coveted breakfast beer. Food is great, expect generous portions and there's always a special. Menu is broad, includes fresh ingredients and the staff clearly has a good time. Our family loves the brunch.

Chill Out Cafe
Classic, dive-like breakfast place that has huge portions and a tasty menu. You'll definitely want to split a breakfast burrito - consider getting your coffee a couple doors down from Verve and pull up a chair. Always busy for a reason, it's really good!

Seven Bridges Cooperative
The staff is very knowledgable on all aspects of brewing beer. They are extremely friendly and willing to help you learn how to brew if your a beginner brew master. There prices are surprisingly low giving there location. Downtown Santa Cruz is usually a more expensive shopping experience. A lot of there inventory is comparable to online shopping. I highly recommend stoping by there store and check out how easy it is to brew your own beer. Just so you know I'm not affiliated with the store and this review is true and honest. Save money by going to the welding shop directly across the street from them and get your Co2 bottles refilled for half the price. Sorry Seven Bridges. Happy Brewing

After living here in Santa Cruz, CA for seven and a half years, Let me say that if I could give this place zero or negative stars, I would. I hate this place on a cellular level and if you are even part Asian, a person of color or have friends who are, You should have nothing to do with place. From their oh so clever old World racist faux Asian font to their old squinty eyed bucked tooth "fighting monk" mascot, now only to be seen and available on their available for purchase "green" reusable bags, giving this establishment any money makes you racially insensitive and at worst a sell out and a race traitor. Yeah I said it. I could very grudgingly give this place a pass if they were immigrant Asian owned (because sometimes they don't know any better) or even if they had some Asians working there, But they don't. I cannot stand this place, their owners, anyone who works there and anyone who gives this racist place any business whatsoever.

The Walnut Avenue Cafe
one of my favorites, always consistent great food, sometimes during busy periods there is a wait for food, but always worth it!

Just a moment...
