Grand Animal Hospital
Grand Animal Hospital provides excellent quality service for a competitive and reasonable price. I was terribly worried about having my twelve year old blind Siamese, Baby, going under general anesthesia. They were very respectful of this, treated Baby thoughtfully, and did not move too fast or move towards her head quickly, realizing that a blind cat will be very skittish with that sort of thing (she actually has a bit of peripheral vision, which makes things worse in that she can detect motion coming towards her, but in a hospital setting would not know the source.) I couldn't have been happier with the kindness and professionalism of the veterinarian, or with the outcome of Baby's dental cleaning. I have a house full of senior cats, two younger dogs, and a macaw, and trust Grand Animal to treat them respectfully and well. They also collect food donations for the Pacific Beach pier cats, and do other wonderful things for the community. So if you want to save money and still be assured that your animals will be treated well and competently, then I highly recommend this animal clinic. I was a veterinary technician for many years, so I hone in on things like responsiveness, cleanliness, competence, and customer service. I cannot recommend these people highly enough.

Cabrillo Pet Hospital
Dr. Broden & staff are wonderful with my dog Ginger (Shar-pei). She is comfortable there and I feel she gets excellent care from the doctors and staff. The cost is affordable compared to other places. They provide the care and treatments without over medicating. I a, thankful for the services provided to us over the past 4 years. Keep up the good work!

Bernardo Heights Veterinary Hospital
My dog is a 90lbs baby, and Dr fennel was great with him, he has a bad irritation to grass and they helped us work on some options to reduce the pain he was getting in his paws and ears. Services were very reasonable and affordable, our new puppy will be visiting soon.

Bernardo Heights Veterinary Hospital
I grew up in a small town in the Midwest. I am use to Doctors, Vets, etc., being very personalble and trust worthy. I get the small town feeling when visiting Dr. Fenner and his staff and know that my pets are getting the best of care.

Eye Care For Animals
Very personal and dedicated staff. They helped me thru a stressful time. If it wasn't for their expertise Kamie would have lost her remaining eye. I can't thank them enough and am thrilled Dr. Meradith is the team leader.

Cabrillo Pet Hospital
I didn't want to treat her kidney disease and make her linger painfully on. Cabrillo Pet Hospital was so kind and sympathetic and we really appreciate all the time and care they provided for our family.

They are awesome and very friendly! By far the nicest vet we've been to in the area. They will now be our permanent vet. And they aren't expensive! Im going to recommend them to everyone!
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
