Ue kara Grill
Turning the tide and getting jobs back is Master Sushi Chef Gerardo Torres. Behind the counter at Ue Kara Grill he is serving up quality Sushi with jalapenos and cilantro. Thus knocking out the wasabe supplier and serving the balance of trade, keeping it all home grown and locally owned. The tea is Yamamotoyama though. At the helm of Ue Kara Grill is Arturo Ayala of Chula Vista. Building it through sweat equity, no bank's outrageous loans to tie him down. At times I think, "Like Sancho Panza he is chasing fish gills." I'd like to say he is 25 years too late but he is only 23 years old, shouldn't he be going Chinese? Whatever the case I will be fascinating to see his business grow. Torres is a creative chef with 15 years at Ichiban in PB and a two-year stint as head chef at Sushiya in Otay Ranch. Ayala's grandfather was the largest exporter of fish in the state of Morenos, Mexico. They have a fighting chance in a tough downtown market.Try the Sashimi Mexican Style. I had it with Yellow Tail Tuna, but I think with Salmon may have been a better selection. The dish was topped with jalepeƱos, lemon, cilantro, a seaweed salad and gobo. Nonetheless, it was a nice surprise like a jumbo ceviche and a beautiful photo op. In fact all of Torres' creations are almost too pretty to eat. The decor is not yet much to look at, but there is tile for a new floor in one corner, new higher tables are on order, and a liquor license application has been filed. Yogata! That is Japanese for Que Bien! He has a 42 inch flat panel in place and a large projection screen. Outdoor seating is available. There were no Foo Fighters, in fact the place was a bit too silent, make your mark drop off some classical Biwa (a pear shaped lute) or some hardcore Japanese punk.Ue Kara Grill also has a great selection of Udon Noodles, Bento (lunch) boxes for under $7.00 making it a destination for a quick and convenient downtown lunch and in San Diego, isn't it right to have Sushi with a bit of Mexican flair?

The Kebab Shop
We arrived a little before lunch time and the place was impeccably clean. In fact, co owner AJ makes it a point to provide top quality service and food. His inspiration came from his travels in Europe where Doner Kebabs was all he ate. He preferred it over hamburgers and pizza, which says a lot. Doner Kebabs, which are the meat rotating on metal cooking axel, were his favorite because of the flavor and it was a healthy choice. His vision is to see this cuisine become popular in California. Aside from the chicken and lamb meat options, there is a choice of gourmet salads as well. Hummus salad, cucumber and lentil salad are among the choices. All their produce is purchased from high quality vendors, the same that you would get at a high end steakhouse. AJ knows the importance of quality, even in a tough economy. He knows that a customer will return if the food stays consistent and consistently good. This means fresh, fast and flavorful.Wide selection of imported beers also available.Be sure to check out their new location opening at the end of July in Mira Mesa. 9450 Mira Mesa Blvd.

Gaslamp Garage
Walking into the Gaslamp Garage, I notice that this was not a typical novelty store. The walls were covered with murals, the ceiling lined with old rims and tires, making true every sense of the store's name. On the back wall were Roxy, Hurley and Quicksilver clothing and accessories. This means that I could find a bathing suit for me and a gift for my little sister all in one store. I was impressed by the colorful decor and upbeat music. With 5,000 square feet of retail space, I could browse for hours. The coffee table books were fun, with titles like "He Said, She Said." Not only that, this store offers the largest selection of souvenir merchandise in San Diego. You can find anything from a T-shirt, keychain, shot glass, or fleece hoodie. The employees were professional, dressed in store polo shirts. I could definitely do a lot of shopping here.

Tried this new place today. Ordered the Israeli salad and house hummus to go. The Israeli salad was just chopped tomato, green pepper and cucumber with a half of a lemon in the dish to flavor to my taste. Based on what I read about Israeli salad, I was hoping for more flavor, like parsley, mint, olive oil, garlic, anything!! To their credit the vegetables were very fresh. Be sure to get the house hummus and bread. Wonderfully delicious. I'll probably give them a couple months to iron out the kinks of a new place and try it again.

Ob Kabob
OB KABOB IS THE BESTTTTT!!! For one, their food is amazing and speaks for itself. I have yet to have a less than great meal there each and every time I stop by (which generally is 3-4 times a month). Sal and the crew remember who you are and offer that beach/small town hospitality to each and every customer. Besides that, the beers are always cold and usually on special and you can catch the games while you're eating. I will continue to recommend you guys to all of my friends and family.

The Tipsy Crow
So I went to a couple of parties downtown last weekend and ended up at The Tipsy Crow!! It was my first time being here and I had a blast the service I received here was amazing and all the bartenders really new how to make some drinks. What made this place stand out from the rest of the bars in downtown is that they are very unique the way they came up with all the extra amenities you get for hanging out here.

The Tipsy Crow
Tipsy Crow was so much fun!!! The bartenders really knew there drinks and usually when you go to bars or clubs the bartenders are really arrogant but not here they were friendly and when you asked a question about the Tipsy Crow they did not hesitate to give you a honest answer. My Boyfriend and I had a blast and we are going back tomorrow this is our new place to go to in Downtown!!!

The bartender was the best thou she remembered all of out names and she recommended something for my girlfriend that was not really strong but tasted great! Thank You The Tipsy Crow for always a great time.

Taste & Thirst
This place was just ok. I think it is great for drinking, but not food. We went on a saturday around 730. They have Saturday happy hour till 8 so that's a plus. The food was pretty bland and greasy. They had a nice selection of beer on tap and a variety of cocktails. Pretty disappointed with the food though, so I have to knock it down a few stars. Service was quick

Ob Kabob
The Beef Kabob with rice and salad special is my absolute favorite!! OB Kabob is starting to become a landmark in Ocean Beach for being one of the best restaurants in the area. Not to mention their beer selection and overall atmosphere is great. If you're ever looking for great Mediterranean cuisine in OB, this is the place to be.

Just a moment...
