California Liquor
Here is a liquor store story where spirit does not refer to the alcohol. It is pretty short, simple, and free of Johnny Walker wisdom despite the setting. When Kahled Goro arrived in the US from Iraq in 1982 he had no work the first day. On the second day he started working and has been going strong ever since. And now it is California Liquor on Juniper that he owns and runs.Khaled runs a clean store. With 16 years in the business he has some stories to tell too. From his counter he’s watched South Park grow into the fairy tight community it is today. The shop has all the convenience store standards you’d expect in any liquor store from Padre baseball caps (he’s a loyal fan) and band-aids to milk and local craft beers. It has a lot of reasonably priced fine and discounted wines and liquor too. Services include money orders, key making, lottery tickets and an in store ATM (transaction fee $1.75). Something on the shelves called a Chelada Mix (just ad water and booze) tells me Goro knows his market and this community better than most of us do too. “It wasn’t long ago,” he says, “there was the Mazara Pizza, the Big Kitchen, Us and not much else here. It was not so safe.” He stuck with it, and before that he also worked long hours earning his stripes, from day two, in an Imperial and Market area liquor store. “I did not like to go to work much then,” he says, “but I do now.” Why? and why have so many Iraqi’s have gravitated to liquor stores as a business model? “It’s hard work, but that is all,” he said, “we can do that and give good service” That he does, and in season there is usually a Padre game on too.

Uncle Biff's-Hillcrest Store
“Best cookie on earth,” says “Uncle” Biff Ledgerwood when asked to describe his product. All the employees nod their heads in agreement and add that the cookies are made from only the best ingredients, too. This is no lie. For the past twenty years Uncle Biff and his cookie crew have been supplying Hillcrest and Pacific Beach with some of the tasty treats in San Diego. Chocolate chip, with or without nuts, is a classic choice, but the Original Killer Cookie and the variety of peanut flavored cookies are what really make you drool. The shop is simple and to the point: you walk in, you see the rows of freshly baked cookies in front of you, and you walk out happy with a few boxes in your hands. While the cookies are usually warm and soft, the service at Uncle Biff’s comes with a dry sense humor. Biff and his employees like to joke around with each other, as well as their clientele, so do not start eating your dessert until you have vacated the premises (it could be a choking hazard). Typically there are no major sales or discounts on cookies, but Uncle Biff’s does off a standard “buy one dozen cookies, get two free” deal. The neon sign that hangs in the store window reads: KILLER COOKIES because of the fact that once you eat them, you will feel like you died and went to cookie heaven. Make sure that the next you’re your sweet tooth is acting up to kill it with this sweet cookie.

Jiffy Lube
(THIS PLACE IS BAD - WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN, THEY DID WORK TO MY CAR THAT WAS NOWHERE IN THE $700 RANGE OF MECHANICS,) THAT WAS ME AND HOW I FELT ONCE LEAVING JIFFY LUBE AFTER HAVING WORK DONE. I WILL NOW AND FOREVER RETRACT THOSE WORDS ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THIS JIFFY LUBE, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MANAGER ALBERT EXPRESSING HIS SYMPATHY FOR MY EXPERIENCE AND ADDRESSING ANYTHING HE CAN DO TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION AND MY FEELINGS TOWARDS THIS JIFFY LUBE, DESPITE THE WAY I FELT AND EXPRESSED ABOUT THIS BUSINESS I DID NOT ONCE SAY THE WORK DONE WAS BAD. I CAN SAY IT WAS QUICK 30-45 MINUTES I CAN ALSO SAY I HAVEN'T HAD ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE WORK. THE ONE THING THAT WAS LACKING ON THAT DAY I HAD MY CAR SERVICED WAS GIVING WHEN ALBERT CALLED ME AND SPOKE TO ME AS IF HE WAS A CUSTOMER NOT WANTING TO LOSE A CUSTOMER OVER A ONE-TIME EXPERIENCE. WHATEVER A COMPANY DOES TO A CUSTOMER CAN ONLY DAMAGE OR EXPAND THE BUSINESS, DESPITE WHAT I SAID IN A RAGE. I WILL SAY THAT THIS JIFFY LUBE ON EL CAJON BLVD VALUES THERE INTEGRITY BACKS UP THEIR WORK. YOU CAN BE THE BEST AT SOMETHING BUT WITHOUT INTEGRITY AND AS "DO RIGHT" CONSCIOUS, YOUR SERVICES ARE USUAL. RECEIVING A CALL FROM MANAGEMENT ABOUT MY DISCOMFORT AND MANAGEMENT WORKING TO RECTIFY IT IS "EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE" TO ME AND I APPRECIATE THAT KIND OF BUSINESS

Sprouts Farmers Market
I really enjoy this market very much. It's just like whole foods without the expensive prices. The bins of different nuts, candy, granola, etc etc are amazing. So many different types of ingredients. The produce and veggies are very fresh and always tasty. I really enjoy shopping at Sprouts markets.

Tips & Advices
You should change your oil filter whenever you change your oil, that is, approximately every 7,500 miles.
A oil filter is a device that helps remove contaminants from motor oil as it passes through the engine. A pump pushed the oil through the filter where it is strained and goes back to the engine.
High-mileage oil contains special conditioners that are said to help prevent gaskets from drying out and thus preventing leaks. This can be beneficial to engines with many miles on them.
Synthetic oil costs more than conventional oil, but the price is offset by the need for less frequent oil changes due to the oil’s durability.
Tools needed to change your own oil include jack stands or ramps, a wrench, an oil filter wrench, an oil drip pan, funnel, replacement oil filter, and replacement oil.

Just a moment...
