Color Works Construction
Color Works does a great job when they send the right crew. We contracted them to paint our living room and kitchen. The estimated time to complete the job was 2 days, however due to humid weather conditions, the paint had difficulty drying in the estimated time. On the third day, a different set of painters showed up to finish the job and unfortunately the quality of work did not match the level of skill that the initial crew displayed on the first 2 days. As a result, the initial crew had to come back and clean up after the sub-par crew, which took an additional 2 days of work. (I'd like to point out that the workmanship of the initial crew was phenomenal. Specifically George and Robin, they are good, trustworthy guys who work very hard to produce a great result.)Now, in all fairness, anyone who had already paid a decent amount of money for a job that took three times as long to complete as originally estimated would undoubtedly be frustrated. However, Color Works took responsibility for the mistakes made and lived up to their warranty. They offered to paint our hallway free of charge, which was in fact completed within a day, as well as patch any spots that we noticed in the living room and kitchen going forward. All in all, I would say that they do good work and are a solid choice but are in need of dedicated supervision. The supervisor is understanding and responsive, however if the quality between crews lacks consistency, the vision of the final product gets lost in translation. This could have been mitigated simply by having one person oversee the job from start to finish. My recommendation is twofold: 1. If you're contracting Color Works, be sure to be very specific about the full scope of the job so that you get an accurate time to completion.2. Ask that the crew remain the same between days so that everyone fully understands how the job is to be completed and what techniques are best utilized. (ex. sprayers vs rollers

Sivage Homes
OMG! OMG! You have no idea how refreshing it was to walk into a model home and not hear the word upgrade, upgrade, upgrade! So many standard features that we didn't have to upgrade. The best simply the best. Sivage was the first builder we went to that we felt like we got everything we wanted in our home. We built a home 10 years ago with Pulte and had so many problems. This time we found the perfect home. We built our home in Talise De Culebra and our sales person James was simply amazing! He genuinely cared about my families needs. As soon as we walked in he greeted my husband/kiddos and made us feel at home helping us find the right home plan. 1800 sq ft was getting a little cramped for my husband and 3 kids LOL! So we were looking for 2500 sq ft w/ 4bdr, 3bath master down or larger and under 250 K. James showed us all the custom changes we could make on our plan taking our home plan from 2600 sq ft to 2900 sq ft and givng us 4bdr master down, 3 1/2 bath and a mother-in law suite. A much more professional and enjoyable experience this time around! We are blessed to be in our DREAM HOME!

New Orleans Handyman
Did great work on exterior of home. Installed Hardiplank, new windows and painted our home during fall season of 2013. New Orleans Handyman is small company that is getting a lot of work. Upon arrival to our home Robert Devoe the owner gave estimates, explained options, presented bonded insurance documentation and had a binder with pictures of completed projects. Estimates were detailed and emailed to me for consideration. He commits to one job at a time to completion unless they are waiting on custom supplies such as our windows, took 4 weeks for Home Depot to get it right but Robert was on them like a fly on s***. Manager of Home Depot called me to apologize and admit that they were at fault for delaying our windows. I felt confident leaving the entire process in Robert Devoes' hands. There were a couple of times it took a while for my call to be returned but it was due to workload and I could fully understand because Robert is his own secretary as well. Anyway we are very pleased with finished job and will be using them again this fall season for another phase of work.

GL Navarro Roofing & Home Improvement
I got probably close to 10 bids for a roof replacement. I got numerous bids that were exorbitant ($9000 and up). I kept feeling like I could get a better quote and then I finally stumbled upon GL Navarro and I am so glad. They beat every previous bid I had received (there was only one that was close), but they also did a fabulous job. They were always prompt and professional and worked diligently to get the job done in a timely manner. The supervisor always contacted me to let me know the progress and clearly spelled out the process and all charges. Any extra charges (which were minimal) were explained. They did a great job cleaning up after themselves and were always polite. They were even willing to make things right if we disagreed with a charge or they felt like they hadn't explained thing well enough. I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about the whole experience and I would totally recommend these guys for your next roofing job.

superior painting and Remodeling
We recently had the exterior of our home painted-with some minor repairs, as well as, staining of our deck/porch railing and front door by Superior Painting. We were very pleased with the job they did and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality work. First of all, although Superior Painting's estimate was not the cheapest of the quotes we requested, it was a fair estimate and truly felt it was money well spent. Secondly, Ernest is lucky to have such a hard-working crew that really knows what they're doing and enjoys doing it. They were thorough, clean, careful, and professional. Can't say enough about his crew! Lastly, Ernest came by everyday to assess the progress of the work and made sure I was pleased at each stage of the job. We would definitely use them again. Our house looks great and we couldn't be happier.

Shaw Company Remodeling
We had our entire house painted, several huge holes in the walls fixed, and many other minor repairs. We are now having them do our kitchen & flooring.Juan and his crew were great. They all knew what they were doing and knocked out the whole house extremely quickly. We were pleased with how even the crew was very professional. After the first day, my wife HATED the way the color looked. The guys fixed it the very next day with no hesitation or extra charge. We love the way our house turned out, and you can't even tell there were ever holes in the walls! Since our project was completed, we have friends getting their bathroom done with Shaw. We look forward to seeing how our kitchen & floors turn out!I would highly recommend this company to any of my friends or family!

Sivage Homes
WE LOVE OUR NEW SIVAGE HOME!!! My wife and I looked at purchasing a home with several different builders in price range of 170's to 230's. After many months of searching we found Sivage homes. We chose Sivage because of all the included features (granite, tile flooring, blinds, etc.) and options they allowed on the home. They allowed us to make structrual changes to the home that other builders would not. Our sales person was great from begining to the end. There were some issues at their design gallery but all and all a pleasent experince. We have now been in our home for a year and have zero issues we love our home!!!

We recently moved to the Spring Branch area. Our home needed a complete interior and exterior re-paint. We were able to narrow our selection of contractors to Superior. We asked them to please complete the job within a certain time frame because we needed to move in. Not only did they complete the interior and exterior before the deadline, we also contracted them for more work. They installed granite in the kithen. The house has a brand new feel to it and we love it! We appreciate the hard work by the crew and appreciate Superior for going the extra mile to get us in our home. Highly recommended!
Tips & Advices
If there is ever a dispute regarding payment over the course of the project, a contractor or subcontractor could place a payment claim, or lien, on your property. To avoid this, ask the contractor to sign a lien release, which is a legal agreement that states that any payment accepted is final. This can come in handy if a contractor has his or her own payment issues with their subcontractors. Signing a lien release form certifies that any payment made by a client to the contractor is enough to pay for any goods or services rendered.
Absolutely ask. Paying too much up front offers the homeowner minimal leverage if the quality of work does not meet expectations or contractual specifications. Try to establish a reasonable pay schedule, such as paying 10 percent of the total cost for each 10 percent of the work that is completed. Include this payment plan in the contract, as well.
Before any money changes hands, there should be a contract to sign. Make sure the specifics of the work and all costs are listed in the contract, including details. If you forget to have something included in the contract after signing it, there's rarely a chance of recourse.
Ask the contractor for proof of their certification before signing anything, as well as their proof of insurance. You should also check your homeowners insurance policy to see if they offer coverage for contracted work. You may want to call your insurance provider and ask for more details on what your plan will and won't cover.
