Smiles R Us
I cannot say enough GREAT things about this dental office. Let me explain, so I had a few hours off from work one day (very rare) and I walked into the dental office right next door first (Castle Dental). Okay, so when I walked into castle, there were 4 people at the counter and not even ONE of them greeted me. I told them that my tooth was broken and they rudely handed me a clipboard. When I gave the info back they said it would be about 45 minutes and they would not be able to fix the tooth and clean my teeth in the same day. So, I told them I’d be right back - BEST DECISION I EVER MADE!!! I walked outside and like a guiding light saw 'Smiles R Us'. So, I thought, what the heck, and I went in. OMGosh, the staff greeted me and were SO NICE that I felt at home immediately. In fact, I was back in a room having x-rays done within 5 minutes!!! Can you believe it? Walked in off the street and within 5 minutes I was already being treated! Wow. So, then Dr. Irma Cantu came in and she was one of the NICEST people I have ever met in my life. I'm not kidding! She was extremely Professional and explained everything to me! (see I wasn't used to that - I've been seeing dentists for 30+ years and NEVER have they spent more than a minute with me before firing up the drill and then I would have to ask the other dentist, step by step 'What are you doing now' because they never told me anything!). However, this is NOT the experience that Dr. Cantu came me. To make a long story short, I got a root canal that day. My broken tooth had an abscess on it and she took care of it right away. AND I explained about how difficult it is to get out of work and the Staff were so understanding and NICE that they took the time to do a deep root scaling and cleaning. ALL IN THE SAME DAY! Um, the other dental place with the rude people (Castle/Monarch Dental) could care less about me or my pain. But see, they CARE! They really do. I could not stop telling them how much I appreciated their kindness and how much I immediately felt right at home (before visiting Smiles R Us, I had Never felt this way at a dentist office). Dr. Irma Cantu is Amazing (not to mention she has BEAUTIFUL teeth! lol). Anyway, today I went for a polishing of my teeth and to put in my crown. Completely PainLESS!!! Oh, and I can't forget the most important fact that is making me write this review - The day I got my root canal done - the next day when I woke up I was expecting horrible pain because my LAST dentist used to do root canals on me and I always felt like a jack hammer had been on my jaw bone. ANYWAY, the next day after the root canal (by Dr. Irma Cantu), THERE WAS ZERO PAIN. I mean NO PAIN!!! I am recommending her to ALL of my Friends and Family! My husband has already been there and is getting his upper partial. He hates dentists, but he Loved Dr. Cantu also!!! Rock On, Dr. Irma - YOU ARE THE BEST!!!! Signed, a customer for life! San Antonio Surgical Arts
I've no idea what happened with the other reviews, but my experience here was wonderful. The office was clean and equipment was state of the art. Doctor Michael Castillo (may have miss spelled his first name) was nice, and explained my options pre and post treatment. The anesthesiologist did their job wonderfully, I could've walked out of the office had I needed to, though they wheeled me out in a wheelchair to a convenient loading dock and even offered me assistance getting into the truck. In a previous experience at a Colorado doctor getting my wisdom teeth removed, I started waking up halfway home, apparently attempted to get out of the car, and was seeing stacks of everything floating above themselves. Here, I woke up in the chair in my right mind, and was %100 besides the loopiness from the intravenous painkiller. Pain my ***, saer123, first pain came when I tried to not take the vicodin. My treatment plan explained everything I needed to do to avoid infection, and despite my ignoring the warnings not to smoke, am having no issues whatsoever. To respond to 'psychopathic', I was shown not only the infection i knew of from my regular dentist, but a second starting up, and both were treated. I was shown the x-rays, (which were taken by a cool 360 degree x-ray machine) and he even pointed out the infections and circled them with a light board type highlighting tool to help clarify everything. Now, I made the appointment for a consultation, but they completed that, then offered to do the surgery that day, and had it all COMPLETED WITH ME OUT THE DOOR BY MY SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT TIME. Wonderful, talk about timely. If you need dental surgery, i would highly recommend this location, or at least Dr.Castillo. Oh, and they called to make sure everything was doing well a couple days after my surgery. Let you suffer my foot.

National Home Improvement
I met Mr. Gomez through my daughter-in-law, in May of 2015, after relocating back to San Antonio from MN to spend some time with my family. Their home needed lots of TLC including everything from flooring, painting, plumbing and just about everything in between. Usually, these guys come out, are in a hurry, cut corners, send you a bill and are on their way. NOT this group! Although busy, Mr. Gomez presented, Saturday, the day the crew began. He was so easy to talk to and wanted to make sure everything got off to a good start. Easily reachable by phone he will personally find the products you are looking for and send them to you via text for approval. At 63, with careers in both nursing and social work, you might say I've been around the block a time or two, National Home Improvement, without question, IS the best company of its kind that I have ever witnessed. This may have been the first time that we have worked together but it certainly will not be the last! Mr. Gomez and crew are punctual, organized, in constant communication, able to guide you to the best choices while keeping costs down, friendly, trustworthy while in your home, respectful, and organized. This is the most productive home improvement team I have ever worked with in Texas or Minnesota. The quality of the materials they use and of their work is stellar. Even so, they are always there to work with you when the job requires cost savings but good craftsmanship. I cannot imagine that anyone would not be pleased to have this home improvement team on their side. I'd be willing to stake my reputation on it, I am that pleased!. Best of all...they are able to do just about any job you might need done, save washing the windows!. Thanks National Home Improvement for making a couple of ladies lives a much nicer place to live in!

Practical Approach Pediatrics, Pediatric Dentistry & Pediatric Urgent Care
AMAZING EXPERIENCE!HAVING MOVED TO SAN ANTONIO A FEW MONTHS AGO WAS NOT AN EASY TRANSITION, BUT FINDING A PEDIATRICIAN AND DENTIST FOR MY BOYS WAS WHAT WORRIED ME THE MOST. WE FOUND OUT ABOUT PRACTICAL APPROACH PEDIATRICS AND PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY AND I ASSURE YOU IT WAS BY FAR THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER. MY BOYS ENJOYED THEIR VISITS WITH BOTH THE DOCTORS AND EVEN TOLD OUR RELATIVES ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE AT THE CLINIC. I ADMIRED THE FACT THAT THE DOCTORS AND STAFF EXPLAINED TO MY BOYS WHAT PROCEDURES/TREATMENTS THEY WERE GOING TO PERFORM ON THEM (ONE EXAMPLE: VITALS - MY BOYS WERE GETTING READY TO CRY WHEN IT WAS EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT THE CUFF WAS JUST GOING TO CHECK THEIR MUSCLES…I KNOW THAT IS NOT TRUE BUT TO A 4 YEAR OLD CHILD THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE). NOW I DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY BOYS BEING AFRAID OF GOING FOR ANOTHER VISIT. **DR. (MR) ADETONA- IF IT WERE UP TO MY BOYS THEY WOULD GO VISIT YOU EVERYDAY FOR MINOR BUMPS AND BRUISES THAT THEY GET. THANK YOU FOR MAKING SURE THAT MY BOYS STAY HEALTHY.**DR. (MRS) ADETONA- MY BOYS LOVE YOUR HUGS WHEN THEY SEE YOU. THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING TO THEM (AND MYSELF) THE IMPORTANCE OF DENTAL HYGIENE, THEY REMIND ME TO MAKE SURE TO BRUSH THEIR TEETH PROPERLY.**STAFF- I HAVE NEVER MET SUCH FRIENDLY, CONSIDERATE AND CARING INDIVIDUALS. THANK YOU FOR HELPING CARE FOR MY BOYS AND KEEPING ONE OCCUPIED WHILE THE OTHER IS GETTING THEIR VACCINES OR BLOOD DRAWN.**I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE AND SUCH LOVING AND CARING INDIVIDUALS AS EACH ONE OF YOU.**

I am phobic about dentists and while I will never say I enjoyed going to a dentist I can say that after trying various dentists over 47 years of my life none has been as fantastic as Dr. Pham. I am in SA for a few weeks visiting family and broke a tooth. Knowing that the root would have to be removed I tried putting it off until I got home. Didn't work. Massive infection and pain. Made an appointment (in tears) with Dr. Pham's office. They saw me promptly, were very gentle and caring, did not embarrass me or condescend to me, although I realize how difficult a ptsd patient can be. X-Rays and an exam for $50 (a special running at this time) which is pretty much unheard of. Extraction, nitrous oxide, local anesthetic and prescription for $231. (Please note that these prices were based on my dental nee.ds at the time and I have NO idea what any other patient's cost would be) Plus, since I was paying cash was given an additional 15% discount. From paperwork to payment Dr. Pham's office was caring, professional, patient and helpful. I will be coming up to SA for all my dental treatment from now on. Luckily I only live in Corpus Christi and believe me 120+ miles is NOTHING when Dr. Pham will be taking care of me.ALSO - keeping it all in the family, the Pham Family Pharmacy (say that 3 times fast) is less than a block away and my prescription was filled in less than 10 minutes. All in all, the PHAM family made my day a thousand times better.

Practical Approach Pediatrics, Pediatric Dentistry & Pediatric Urgent Care
When I became pregnant with my first child, I knew that picking a pediatrician was going to be a very important decision for my husband and me. We selected Dr Adetona and his team at Practical Approach Pediatrics and Pediatric dentistry after a formal interview and receiving a strong recommendation from friends. I trusted that we were putting the health of our child in very capable and caring hands from day one. What we have received in terms of care and relationship from this practice has exceeded every expectation-- including many I never knew I could or should have in a health care provider. We receive honest, ethical, and gentle service from every member of the team every time we enter the practice. They take the time and care necessary to help my daughter and us feel comfortable, to answer all of our questions, and anticipate our needs. We are so grateful to have one place for checkups, dental, and urgent care-- and feel so safe knowing that we can get this level of care from a reliable, friendly place when we need it most. My husband and I highly recommend this practice to you and feel confident that your children will receive the best medical care there is to offer.

Kool Smiles
I am eager to boast about my first-class experience at my local Kool Smiles I had recently. As soon as I walked through the doors, the beautiful front desk girls greeted me so politely and left me almost in shock that I did not have to wait to be called to the consult room as soon as I signed in. I didn't even get the chance to take a Snapchat selfie before I went in for my regular cleaning. The dental Assistant, Maria Hernandez, took my x-rays so gently and quickly. She sat me down in my chair and beside me was the hygienist ready to clean my pearly whites. After my cleaning, my dentist Dr. Razai gave me a full exam and she even fit me in the schedule to take care of my cavities the same day! I was beyond pleased with this procedure. She took off piles of glue my past orthodontist had accidentally left on my back molars. I can finally bite correctly, and my jaw no longer bothers me. I am profoundly appreciative I found a dental team that treats me like family. My experience was stellar from beginning to end, and I'm sure I am not the only patient to have received this level of care. Thank you, Kool Smiles McCreless office!

Dr. Banker is a upstanding pediatric dental provider. I have a son with Austism which requires special needs and a understanding staff. Her office has always provided him with such care and empathy, as well as, all of my children. They have always scheduled him in the times that suited him best. Their office is always clean and respectable upon entrance. As, an medical office employee, please understand there are guidleines for cancellations and no show's appointments in every office. Also, in every situation there are two comprising situations that should be considered and it is a shame that slanderous comments can be made without any truths or investigation into that situation. I would highly recommend Dr. Banker and staff to anyone who has children and also special needs children that require that extra TLC.

Kool Smiles
With having 3 children, it is very convenient being able to have all 3 of them seen at once. I absolutely love Dr Razai, but Dr. Karan is also awesome they know their stuff and their great with kids. The very first time I went there was another dentist there that was just plain evil, when I intentionally missed that next 6 month appt, the staff called me and informed me she was gone and that we would get a much better dentist. I have been a loyal customer now for 4 years and even though I have since moved 45 minutes away I still take my babies there because I trust their judgment, care and opinions. I personally love all of the assistants, and dental hygienist the front office staff can seem kind of cold but I'm a talker so they have learned to just smile and laugh along, meaning they can be good sports too.

I can not say enough great things about the office staff. Today was our first visit after switching dentists. Amazing, welcoming staff from the time you enter the door. They were all the sweetest ladies and my 4 year old loved the goodie bag and I appreciated the time they took during the cleaning and talking with him the whole time. Just a warm inviting atmosphere and I could not help but say I just love this place in the middle of the visit. Exceptional experience and we have made the appointment for the next 6 month visit. Everything was superb from the front office receptionist who greeted us to the examination and end of visit. Fabulous fabulous customer service. 5 stars!
Tips & Advices
  • Pick Your Plan: Most people purchase three main varieties, usually through their employers.
    • An indemnity or fee-for-service plan means you'll have to pay for annual deductibles and co-insurance payments out of pocket.
    • A preferred provider organization is less costly, and you choose from a network of dentists. However, PPOs have some limitations and accompanying deductibles.
    • A dental health maintenance organization plan limits you to just a few choices of dentists, and one doctor handles all of your oral care needs. However, these HMO are usually much less costly.
  • PPO plans and dental HMOs work with only a select number of doctors. While that usually means fewer costs, it also means you have less choice in the dentist who can treat you Before purchasing the plan, you'll receive a list of dentists in each network. From there, you can then pick a plan with doctors who meet your standards and requirements.
  • When picking a plan, you need to look at just how much you'll pay for each and every service. For instance, some plans won't cover your fillings or X-rays, while others may charge more or less for a crown or tooth extraction. You don't want to be caught off-guard by unforeseen charges.
  • If you're truly comfortable with a dentist and you feel he or she can be an ally in your ongoing oral care regimen, then consider signing a plan to just keep that dentist available. That means potentially deal with costs and other insurance-related factors that you might have wanted to. If need be, you might be able to work with the dentist's office to address some of the plan-specific concerns.
  • Ask family, friends or colleagues for recommendations. They will be able to provide details about a dentist's demeanor, operating style and approach to patient care
  • Meet with any prospective dentists to ask about what treatments they perform most often, procedures they're not as familiar with, what accreditation they have or any organizations they belong to and how their offices handles insurance and payments.
  • Consider driving distance, location and office hours.
  • Check With Your State Board: The state board can outline what requirements your dentist must meet and offer information about any discrepancies in the their background and if he or she has faced any disciplinary actions.
  • Remember Your Angles - When brushing your teeth, always place the brush at a 45-degree angle..
  • Don't Forget the Tongue – Your tongue is the largest source of bacteria. Brush it front to back and don't forget the sides.
  • Floss Everyday - Each time you floss, have at least 18 inches of floss available. For optimal control, hold the floss between your thumbs and forefingers.
  • Watch What You Eat - Sugar, alcohol and coffee contain phosphorus. While some can prove beneficial, too much of this chemical can eat away at your teeth and gums.
  • Keep in Mind the Mouthwash - Mouthwash can be helpful if used to supplement proper brushing and flossing. Most mouthwash brands contain chlorine dioxide, a chemical that targets the majority of oral bacterial strains.
Yellow teeth are the result of a number of bad habits, mainly smoking, drinking too much coffee and improper nutrition. Many dentists will treat with a whitening procedure.
These painful bumps are the result of irritation to the soft tissue of your mouth. These sores can make brushing almost impossible. There are a number of different causes for sores, including anemia or a vitamin B-12 deficiency. Your doctor will have to examine the bump, find its cause and then develop a specific treatment plan, including the use of corticosteroids to reduce inflammation or antimicrobial mouthwash.
