I had a cable come off my single garage door so I called Precision door to repair it. I chose them mainly because they had the most flashy add in the phone book. The guy on the phone told me it would cost $39 to put the cable back on and $75-$95 for a new cable. So I agreed and in a few hours a technician named Jacob showed up at my house. After less than a minute of inspection of the cable and door he flips open his little book and points to the standard repair cost for this, $399. I guess I'm use to being low balled on the phone and then have prices jacked up once a repair person arrives, but such a huge discrepancy in price had me stunned. When I tried to tell Jacob what the man on the phone said, he wouldn't even let me finish and just talked over me and started giving me a speech how he's use to dealing with people like me and that I'm the one trying to cheat him! Needless to say, I wasn't happy about this. I then asked him to contact his dispatcher and access the original phone call, which I was informed was recorded. He totally refused to do this, and now started screaming how I wasted his time and he's going to charge me a $39 service fee just for coming out to my house for his 1 minute inspection. Needless to say the conversation went downhill from there but ended with me slamming the door of my house and Jacob screaming wildly for several seconds even after I was already inside.

Because I have never ever been treated so badly by a service person, I immediately called Precision door again, and asked to talk to Jacob's supervisor. After a few hours I got a call from Monty, the regional supervisor for the Salt lake city area. I explained the situation to him and he was very nice and offered to do the repair for $199. Since this was at least in the ballpark of the original quote, I agreed. But several times I asked him to confirm that the total price would be $199, and he said yes, unless they found some broken part they had to replace. So with this final verbal agreement I made an appointment for another of Precision doors technicians to arrive the next day.

So come the following day another technician promptly shows up, and was much nicer than that Jacob fellow (I would like to use an expletive here) and did the job in about 45 minutes. So for a few minutes I was happy until he gave me the bill, $210. So once again it was not the price they quoted to me on the phone. But perhaps, there was some part the technician had to replace to cause the $10 discrepancy? No, that wasn't it. Looking closer at the bill they actually charged me a fuel charge of $10. So not only are they charging me almost $200 for 45 minutes of work, but they have the gall to make me pay for the gas to even drive to my home!!!

Since this horrible experience with Precision door I called several other companies and they all were willing to do the repair for between $100 and $150, and with no fuel charge. Needless to say, I will never ever use Precision door again, and will recommend to any and everyone that they avoid this company.
