Affordable Automotive Repair
I'd been in the process to prepare my Explorer for a long trip. One item I knew required work was my A/C. It had been giving me some grief with noise for over a month. Discovering the cost of a new one I had already bought one off another Explorer with half the miles of mine at a Pick-A-Part in Salem for $40. Anyway, I attempted to get by on my current compressor one time to many. The clutche had frozen such that the vehicle would die immediately after starting. This is where Affordable Automotive Repair comes in. I was directly across the street. Thinking it was my battery I went to them asking for a jump. Scott immediately came over and discovered not a dead battery but a frozen a/c compressor clutch. Asked how much and how long, Scott got right to work on this and in an hour and a half I was back on the road. Amazing! I could have been stuck there with repairs done in days or a week, but no it was done before my eyes. Now sure he can't do this every time, as he has several other customers, but he was able this time. For which I greatly appreciate. A/C fixed, cold air, no noise...very happy customer.

P & M Automotive
Recently we had an oil change on our newer car right before moving to Oregon. Unfortunately, a new mechanic had replaced the oil filter with the wrong one. After a week or so of unknowingly driving with rapidly draining oil, the engine seized up. We had it towed to P&M, and after inspection, Matt told us that we needed a new engine, but to contact our previous mechanic to ask about the oil filter, because it was just barely hanging on by a thread. After he looked into it, he discovered the error, acknowledged the mistake, and called up their insurance to cover the repairs. P&M had our car fixed in under a week! My wife and I were highly impressed by the service Matt provided us. Their keen attention to detail saved us from an enormous amount of anxiety about losing our car, not to mention a substantial bill for repairs! We highly recommend P&M for anything you need done to your automobile!

Larrondo's Auto Center
I drive a BMW 328i, to tell you the true most of the places that say that specialize on this type of cars they like to charge to the point that I can't afford to have a car like this. I was a little skeptical about larrondos auto center, just for the reason that they seem pretty well price. The feeling change, once I spoke to Aleeha on the phone, I swear this lady is the nicest. Once they were done with the repairs with my car, I asked for them to save all the parts for me and they did ( I had shops in the past that had issues with this). My total was fair and when I picked my car Carlos took the time to tell me everything about the repair. I think it was good that he took the time to show me parts and explain the repair, I'm not a car genius but at least I have a better pic of what was done to my car.

Chucks Automotive Center
Over the last few years, I've taken not only my vehicles to Chuck's, but I've referred numerous friends and family as well. All I can say is that -- no matter make or model of car -- Chuck's has the knowledge to quickly diagnose and fix the problem, no matter WHAT! His rates are excellent, and I know that I can trust him to do the work right the first time, and not add the additional charges that other mechanics seem compelled to do.He's recently moved to Market Street, just off Broadway (558 Market Street), which is a lot closer to me, so that's a good thing! (Even with my living in South Salem, I'd tow my car to Portland just to get the quality service I've come to expect from Chuck!)Call him first, or call him last, but call him -- you won't find a more honest shop in the Salem area! (503) 585-2000!

Certified Power Systems
Fair and honest!! My SUV was having intermittent starting issues and had to be towed to the shop four times in as many weeks. I finally had it towed to Certified Power Systems where they quickly went to work on diagnosing the problem. They narrowed it down to an electrical issue, and when the first fix didn't work they went back to the drawing board and worked diligently until they figured it out. The first fix was spendy so I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they weren't going to charge me anything additional for the subsequent parts and labor required to finally resolve the issue. I guarantee that I came out ahead on this deal. Rick and his team were great to work with. Keep up the good work!!

Affordable Automotive Repair
I agree with Chateaudif's comment below. If you want honesty, affordability, timely, and excellent service go to affordable automotive. I have had brake service, he checked for damage underneath my car, and fixed some other issues with my car. I liked their service so much that I am a loyal customer. I guarantee the place is safe. After all the owner is an former marine. The nice lady in the office has quit smoking. :) If someone is smoking around the shop don't be shy to ask nicely to stop and they will. No one knows you have a problem until you speak up. :)

Larrondo's Auto Center
I highly recommend Larrondo’s Auto Center. I’ve gone there twice now and have been pleased with their service each time. The first thing you’ll notice is that they have a paperless front-office environment and they take full-advantage of the latest electronic communication all while providing superior personal customer service. Carlos does a great job explaining any needed repairs and has great follow-through. I have a ’97 Toyota Camry and I trust Larrondo’s to give me the service I need at fair price.

Advanced Automotive
They provided immediate response to a crisis brake problem - they kindly gave me a ride home while they worked on my car.Never could I have received better service - I had tried Les Schwab in West Salem, but they told me to wait 45 minutes to even LOOK at it (not even including work to be done) and after a half hour I left their facility (they never even looked at my car in that time.) I am grateful to the terrific staff at Advanced Automotive! Thank you!

Japanese Auto
While I was talking to Evon, an older woman walked in and asked him about fixing her car, he asked me if I could excuse him and I said of course. He talked to her and took such good care of her! If my mom was local I wouldn't hesitate to send her to this shop. He knows what he is doing and makes sure that every customer is treated with dignity and respect. You don't find that very often anymore. GREAT place to take your car....

Trinity's Quality Auto Care
I am very happy with my service (I had my front brakes replaced & a relay that was causing my headlights to turn on all hours of the night & brought my boyfriends car in for the front brakes as well), the quality of workmanship, and communication (they send out a really cool digital inspection by email, complete with photos!) received through Trinity's. I will be bringing our cars back for all future repairs and maintenance!
Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
