They had reasonably priced apartments so we rented from them and have been there 5 yesrs with no problems at all.
Great company to rent from! They have an online portal to report maintenance needs, and maintenance staff is also very quick and courteous. Highly recommend. They are also pet friendly with NO breed restrictions, which is really hard to find.
I once rented an apartment from them and upon move out I was doing a routine walk through when their property manager attempted to bully me into paying him $1,000 for minor touch up paint. I should mention that he showed up several hours early and barged into the apartment without giving any notice or announcing himself. He then preceded to accuse me of trashing the apartment for quite literally having some standard wear and tear touch up paint on one single wall. After I refused to give him a dime he forced me out of the apartment before I was able to remove my belongings. This happened three days before my lease was supposed to end. When I contacted the corporate office and submitted to them video evidence of their property manager's unprofessional-ism they brushed it off and told me they would take care of the situation. I happen to know for a fact that they did nothing in regard to his behavior. He is still the on site manager at this property. I strongly recommend that you don't rent from this company if this is typical of how they treat their tenants. This apartment complex is on the corner of Southwest Ave and Limit Ave in Maplewood, MO; right down the street from Schlafly's. If you are considering renting an apartment in this area make sure the building has no affiliation with this company. Keep in mind that they have several different companies for their properties. Make sure that the Registered Agent for the company you are renting from doesn't match the Registered Agent for this company.
John is f stupid. He put a fake camera on the building and my car was robbed twice this year. He doesn't care about safety of his tenants. Now he is fucking knocking on my door and telling me that I didn't pay the rent. Stupid lier. I showed him the receipt. I don't believe stupid people like him would exist in the world.
These guys are crooks pure and simple. I rented a house for 42 months never late on a payment - I called to tell them shingles were blowing off the house and they told me per my lease I was liable for a new roof. Yeah right. Of course I left the house in perfect condition yet they took my whole deposit anyways. You've been warned
I only gave Helix 1 star because 'NO stars' is not an option. Heed the reviews that say Helix staff are not to be trusted. Amy Levin owns the company and despite making $2mil from WashU via a building sale, she WILL attempt to squeeze as much money as possible from YOU. Several people have taken Helix to court. I wish I'd googled case.net to look up Helix Realty - over 400 cases have been filed. I was trying to save money and I've paid a dear price. Live somewhere else!! You'll save on frustration, heartache, and headache I promise.
Horrible slumlords....Rent nothing but roach motels
Lived in 2 of their buildings in the past 8 years and NEVER had a problem. Very nice with great maintenance!
I have lived here for 2 years and was referred by my cousin who lives at a different property Mr. Pingel manages. I'm 51 years old and have rented from at least 15 other landlords in the City of St. Louis. I am please as punch. My cousin is very happy with his apartment also. The place isn't perfect, but he does a better job than any other landlord I have had.
I rarely write reviews, but this place has simply been so stellarly subpar, i felt like it needed a public response. i have lived in this building for two years and just ended my lease. Pros: the facilities are great - there's a small fitness center in the building, and the apartments have all been recently refurbished. the maintenance on-site is wonderful and quick to respond to any problems within their control.Cons: 1) i had significant flooding in my apartment the first year i was there, where water dripping from the central air on the second floor leaked through the kitchen ceiling to cover the kitchen floor in water several times. we called maintenance. they looked at it and called management because there was a hole in the cooling system that required more specialized repair. management decided not to invest money into fixing the hole but just patching it up, which led to several more leaks, to the point that we had buckets all around the kitchen for at least a month and couldn't use some of the cabinets because we never knew when the patch used to cover the hole would fail. several months later, management finally decided to fix the hole. 2) management consistently sends incorrect ledger information, when requested, and reneges on policies within its leasing agreement. for example, although this is not a stand-alone incident, when i was moving out of the apartment, my roommates and i spent two whole days cleaning the apartment - using the leasing agency's checklist posted on the website since i had read previous negative reviews about people being cheated out of their full move-out refunds - cleaning floors, the inside of cabinets, the bathrooms, the stove, the refrigerator, the microwave oven. at the move-out inspection, the staff person said that everything looked good, except for a little wear and tear and that we would not be charged the cleaning fees since we had cleaned the apartment. two months later, i find out on a new ledger that they misplaced my roommate's portion of the rent for the last month and charged us $110 for the cleaning fee. when i e-mailed them to state that the rent had been paid via a money order and that i had been verbally assured that we would not be charged a cleaning fee, they told us that they had no record of the payment and because the oven was a little dirty (as in used), they felt justified in charging us the total $110 cleaning fee for a townhouse apartment, in addition to wear-and-tear expenses of new lightbulbs and drip pans. My Advice:1) always double-check the numbers on the ledger2) don't bother cleaning at all3) hope that nothing big will break on you, at least not until near the end of your lease when they're incentivized to actually help you. best of luck if you decide to stick with this place anyway.
