Sentinel Plumbing & Sewer Cleaning
Bill (owner) and Daryl (co-worker) came out today ahead of schedule, couldn't get the clog resolved with first snake/auger machine brought out, so came back with a larger machine that was out on another job in the same morning! They were slightly higher in price, but well worth it! Bill was very honest, straight forward and took the time to explain the step-wise approach of troubleshooting the clog and potential causes since it wasn't tree roots, but a soft clog due to likely a build-up of cooking grease/fat/oil. Always, Always, Always, collect the grease/fat/oil off the food, BUT NEVER POUR DOWN the drain. Bill took the time to point out the fats that the auger broke up as he was pulling it back out of the stack clean-out. He mentioned there may be a slight downward bend in the pipe so instead of a straight angle down to sewer main, there's a slight dip such that there's likely puddle and all material flowing through may build up/collect and now the 4" pipe is constricted. Like ----~---- instead of --------. He says next steps may be to camera/locate and either straighten line if abs/pvc by correcting sag or replacing failed section. We contacted the Bore's company who came out the last time, but all they sounded interested in doing is exactly what they did when the came out less than 6 months ago. Call me crazy, but doing the same thing and expecting different results wasn't my idea of fun. Bottom-line: professional, courteous, polite, thorough. I'll likely need them again and they'll be my first call!

I called Bill to ask some basic questions about an issue we were having and he was absolutely amazing! He answered all my questions gave me a general price of what it would cost without any complications which was 70 to 100 less than what I had been told by some other places. He explained how to find our yard vent something that a person who had been out earlier wouldn't even help my husband look for! After dealing with a few things had to call Bill back to have him send someone out to fix the problem. It was after house and he was more then willing to send someone out Doug who was awesome! Came here and was here for an hour working to get things fixed. Not only did he fix the problem but he gave us suggestions on a couple other things we were having issues with and even went outside and helped my husband actually find the yard vent which was buried down about 4 inches in our front yard! I will MOST DIFFIDENTLY be calling them back if we ever need further jobs done. Reasonable, Fast, Polite and very Professional! If I could give more than 5 stars I really would!

Sentinel Plumbing & Sewer Cleaning
•Late Sunday afternoon I discovered a large pool of water on my bathroom floor. With the yellow pages I called all the well known large plumbing companies. All claimed to have 24/7 service. After 2 hours of phone tag, not one could make it to my St.Louis home until the next morning. I called Sentinel Plumbing and in about an hour Bill ( the owner) & tech were at my front door. By this time it was 8 PM. He figured out what the problem was and fixed it. I am an elderly woman and live alone. Bill explained what had to be done and gave the price before the work started. He was very professional and respectful. It is always a comfort to be treated in this manner during a time of crisis. I would recommend Sentinel to anyone and will call them first next time I need a plumber at my house.

I want to say I was very, very satisfied the service I recv'd from Bill and his company. I was very upset about a bathroom faucet leak that I had just paid for less than two weeks ago with another plumber T. Booker. Please watch out for him. My bathtub faucet started leaking again after two days. Not just a drip, but a full force running of constant hot water. I guess $80.00 only gets you a two day repair. Bill came right out figured out what was still wrong and had discovered the other plumber had done anything. He hadn't even installed the simple washer.. Bill was very friendly, explained everything to my kids while I was at work, fixed the problem for real, and even gave me a break on my bill. I will be definitely recommending him to everyone I know. Thank you BillL. T.

i have always been sceptical of using internet organizations. I gutted out the entire bathroom and refinished everything; so I thought. I hired a company to do all of this but when they were paid they did not show back up to finish the job. I needed a working shower and tiolet with an 8 year old. I called Sentinel Plumbing because they were the first one I saw on the site. Mr. Billy and his assistant came right over on a Friday afternoon and had my tiolet, shower, and bathroom sink in within two hours. I will be calling this company back to do all of my plumbing work. They are mannorly, efficient, and reasonable with pricing.

We live in a 112 year old house and nothing is easy to fix. We needed to fix a leaking bathtub drain which should have been easy but was not due to the age of our home and location of the pipes. This was an emergency situation as water was pouring out of our kitchen cabinets. Bill and his assistant showed up quickly and tackled the job. Bill and his assistant were polite (they cleaned up every bit of plaster off the floor), courteous, showed up on time and most importantly is prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend Bill and Sentinel Plumbing.

Bill being a new business and his crew did a good job. Had a sound in my main water line and didn't know what to do. My wife chose the first plumber she came across and it was this company. They did a bunch of digging in my front yard only to find out they should have replaced the whole pipe. Like I said they finished the job but did leave my front yard and sidewalk a mess, which my neighbors called the city about so we had to clean up. Bill is a man of his word, he was unsure of the job but said he would finish and did.

Bill gave me a written bid and he stuck to the price as agreed. Although the job took longer than he expected, he did complete the job as promised. We found more problems with the plumbing that wasn't obvious until the project got started, but he was able to put shut off's in for me so that the water supply to the rest of the house wasn't affected by the suprise. Over all his work has been very good, and I intend to have him do more work for me in the near future.

Sentinel plumbing took on a very difficult job for me- updating my 70+ year old home's plumbing. Despite running into the many problems that come with working on a such an outdated system, they stuck with me and got the job done to my complete satisfaction. Throughout the process, Bill, the owner and his team remained professional and made me comfortable and confident in their abilities to handle the job. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs work done.

Sentinel Plumbing & Sewer Cleaning
I recently called Sentinel Plumbing to come out to my house. I was having a back flow problem with sewer water coming up in my basement. I work long hours, but owner Bill was able to work around my schedule. He explained the problem in words I could understand and helped me fix the issue within my budget. I hope he services this area as long as I live here, & I plan on recommending him to friends/family. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all you help.
Tips & Advices
The following tools and common household objects can be used to clean drains at home:
  • A plunger
  • A drain snake
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Grease-fighting dish soap
Homeowners can mix boiling water with any of the last three products to break up grease and grime.
The main ingredients in clog removal liquid products are sodium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, both break down into relatively harmless components when it comes into contact with water or soil. However, both substances cause mild irritation to skin and internal tissues.
Also known as a drain auger, a drain snake is a coiled device around ¼-inch thick. To use a drain snake, put the end into the entrance of the drain. Turn the handle to force the snake deeper, using extra pressure to force it through the bend in the pipe. Keep turning until the snake hits the clog, then either pull the snake and remove the obstruction or force it through. Once the snake is out of the drain, run the water on full blast for a few minutes to ensure the obstruction is completely removed.
Plungers don't damage residential pipes, but the force created by the act of plunging weakens the seal between the toilet and the floor.
Many plumbers, both local businesses and nationwide chains, offer emergency or same-day services.
