Select Specialty Hospital
For the first time in years I have the hope of getting my life back!….my pulmonary health has not been good for a very long time so this was not my first stay at SSH of Saginaw. I cannot say enough good about their entire staff! When I was having a bad day, nurses took the time to listen to me and made me feel so much better. The staff made me laugh and I will truly miss them and have promised to come back but ONLY FOR A VISIT! This is not to say that everything was perfect throughout my entire stay but that is to be expected. Call lights could have been answered a little more quickly and I feel like stronger pain medications than Tylenol would have helped to control my pain more. There was only one nurse and one doctor that I did not like so if they were out of the equation, this hospital could not be any better! Lastly, I would like to thank Select for finding me a new pulmonology team! They are AMAZING and I now have the hope of living a longer and much healthier life now that they are on my case! This team of pulmonologists (Dr. Kanjwal, Dr. Kambali, Alex Anderson, PA-C and Shawna Nievierowski) took the time to review ALL of my medical records and discovered the underlying issue that had been causing me to be rehospitalized and now we have a plan to get this corrected! I have to say that I felt as though they knew me better than my pulmonologist that has been treating me for years! He had told me that my lungs would only last a couple of more years! I am a young grandmother and that has been a heavy weight on my heart. However, my new team told me to put those statements right out of my mind because they have a surgery that I will be able to undergo that will allow me to watch my grandchildren grow up! I am forever grateful! A huge thank you to Select Specialty Hospital for listening to my concerns and asking this group of pulmonologists to take on my case! If you or any one you know is in need of specialty care like I was, I would recommend this hospital.

Select Specialty Hospital
From Lori derPilibosianaccessible at http://tinyurl.com/selectreviewMy brother in law has been at SSH of Saginaw for the past 6 weeks. Overall, most staff have gone above and beyond to meet his expectations even when he was being uncooperative. The staff has been very attentive and informative regarding the treatments they are providing and providing me with constant updates when I am unable to be here. They couldn't be more supportive and have not given up on him in spite of the complicated medical issues he has. Even the administration has been in very close contact with me almost daily to assure that any concerns are being addressed. I would definitely recommend this hospital to those I know and love if they should need it.

Select Specialty Hospital
My experience at Select Specialty Hospital has been great! Everyone I have come into contact with has been very thoughtful and kind. They listen carefully to what I say to them. I have had several staff members who have gone above and beyond for me! A special thanks to charge nurse, James. And thank you to the CNO, Shannon, for the trip outside and great conversation. It was so awesome to feel the fresh air and hear the birds. The therapy staff is awesome as well. They get me motivated for the day!! And Sarde brings me my apple juice cocktail each night! I cannot thank all of you enough!

Covenant Healthcare
Went to this office with my husband following a work injury. I am a healthcare worker and accompanied him to help him better understand his options. I was told by the staff that I was not allowed into the room during the consult. I presume that they don't understand HIPAA because he had given consent to have me there.

Tips & Advices
Academic medical centers provide the widest range of specialty care treatments, including the latest technological advances, clinical trials, and surgical techniques. In general, an academic medical center is a better choice than a community hospital for complicated treatments or rare diseases. Pediatric intensive care, especially, is usually performed at academic medical centers.
Academic medical centers offer a broad range of specialized services, from allergists to urologists. Some of the larger medical centers have entire hospitals or clinics focused on a particular medical service, such as cancer treatment, though specialties vary among the centers. Patients whose community hospital or local doctors do not have the facilities or expertise to address complex medical conditions can be referred by their primary care physician or local specialist to a major medical center (there are more than a dozen in the United States).
Yes. In addition to their inpatient hospital services, medical centers can offer a wide variety of outpatient services, such as pain clinics, rehabilitation centers, surgery, imaging and laboratory, mental health treatment, and outpatient cancer treatment. Medical groups – doctors in private practice but affiliated with the medical center--will also have offices within the medical center.
Physicians, nurses, physician’s assistants, residents, and attending physicians makeup the clinical staff of an academic medical center.
Medical center accreditation is not required, but most centers work voluntarily toward accreditation because it represents higher standards of healthcare quality and patient safety.
