Dive Bar
So you have to go if you're on K Street at night because there is no cover charge and where else are you going to see a flippin' mermaid?! However, now that I have been, I don't know that I need to go again. Once you get over the mermaid swimming around above the bar, it's just a plain old bar with kind of a funny smell and sticky floors. For the bar itself, I ordered the same drink from 2 different bartenders (rum and diet). One charged me $8 and it was pretty strong. The other charged $7 and it was weak. Could we split the difference and make it just a solid single shot within a Diet Coke? Also, my compliments to the guy working the door. He had a line of 30+ people, making it look like the place was packed. It was not.

Hawks Provisions & Public House
Hawks serves up delicious eats and great cocktails, in a cozy little spot on the corner. The only reason I give 4 out of 5 stars is because they only take reservations for 6+, but the venue is quite small and half their tables are only for two. I tried making a reservation for 5 to no avail and when I arrived an hour ahead of my party it was an 1 1/2 wait. But what I found frustrating at that point is the hostess had been taking any parties for all sizes and putting them on the wait list if they called later that night. Overall, I'll be back but with a party of 6 or earlier in the evening!

Tower Cafe
PEANUT BUTTER TART! I don't need to say more, but since I have to.... The dessert case is amazing and it's so decadent. With an array of refreshing options. If you are a foodie and haven't tried this place it is a must. Quirky atmosphere, very busy.. Great patio! The French toast is lovely and I have heard of this colossal grilled cheese with 5cheese? ....only served during the week. Oh, come on... I can only get there on the weekend..

Small store near the convention center. Has the basic items that you would expect a 7-Eleven to have. Unfortunately, need to deal with the aggressive homeless that plague the area. The staff is first rate in handling the diverse customer base and don't allow the homeless to loiter in the store. My #1 stop in the area for my convenience store shopping.

Hilton Sacramento Arden West
Been to this Hotel on multiple occasions. I don't like the area this Hotel is located BUT they have great front desk agents, bartenders and Security Officers. Would recommend this place not as a vacation Hotel but Business , lay over, resting from long drive sort, e.t.c.Great place to have any sort of events, meetings plenty of area and parking.

Table Vine
Amazing find downtown. A place in Sacramento that does affordable fine dining. Chef does wonderful flavors that pair well with selections from one of the best wine lists in town. Excellent Clam Chowder, cheese plate and one of the best Duck Breasts (if not the best) in Sacramento! Schnitzel anyone? Find it here. Menu changes seasonally.

Thai Basil
Wonderful Thai food in a great location in mid-town Sacramento. You can even still park for free in the neighboring streets. The salads are very inventive and delicious. It's also very vegetarian friendly as you can substitute tofu for any of the meat in the various dishes. Very fresh ingredients! It has a nice outdoor seating area as well.

The Coconut
Delicious food and massive portions at reasonable prices. They also have many items on their menu that are vegan and can be made gluten free! The vegetable roll appetizer is super fresh and filling. I liked that the pad thai didn't have a fishy flavor like it does at so many other restaurants. The thai iced coffee was super tasty as well.

Kupros Craft House
I want to love Kupros, but I always find it kind of underwhelming. They have a good beer selection, but I just don't love the food. Plus, it really irks me that they don't give you enough salad dressing to begin with and then charge you extra when you request more. I'd go there for a drink, but if I'm looking for food, I would pass.

Swabbie's Restaurant & Bar
On busy nights (pretty much for every band) it can be hard to get a drink. I suggest ordering 2 at a time. You also want to bring bug spray and dress for the weather. It's an outdoor venue so you're subject to the elements. Parking can be an issue as well. There is an overflow lot, but it's a walk if you're wearing "cute" shoes.

Just a moment...
