Let's start with the obvious: are the donuts good? Sometimes, but even then, it's nothing to get excited about. What's not so obvious are the strange business practices of the owner. He does not live locally, but monitors the business remotely. He is of the opinion that Donut Madness is the steakhouse of donut shops. I assure you that it is not. For one, a steakhouse would have no problem with a customer who came in and ordered only one steak. The owner of donut madness rolls his eyes and makes a jacking off gesture when referring to customers who only buy one donut at a time or only want plain Jane donuts. Custom orders require a minimum of the 5 dozen donuts to be ordered. So if you have a favorite, but don't want 5 dozen if it, better pray to (insert deity here) that (1) they haven't sold out by the time you get there, (2) they're open that day, because with only 1 part-time baker on the overnight shift and 1 cashier on staff, there are no backup plans, and (3) that they even made that donut that day. But then, even if the odds are ever in your favor, if you come into the shop to purchase this donut, the cashier is forbidden from selling it to you if it is even remotely misshapen or just not perfectly round, regardless of how good it tastes or how badly you want it. So overall, 2 stars because the donuts are edible and for me it's hard to find any donut shop that sells a bavarian cream donut without chocolate on it.
The best gluten free & dairy free bakery around. From sandwiches to cupcakes to potato chips, everything on their menu is worth trying, and buying multiple of. Great staff and a cute outdoor eating area. In the years of frequenting this location I have not had anything I disliked, I only with they had a Roseville location! If you're not gluten free or dairy free Pushkin's is still worth checking out, you won't be able to tell the difference and their prices are comparable to other bakeries!
There's only one type of cake here (Bundt) but it comes in 9 different flavors, including lemon, cinnamon, chocolate chip, red velvet, marble and a few others. They are delicious but somewhat expensive and I'm not really that fond of the thick cream cheese frosting on them, although you can order them with no frosting or just a drizzle. There are also different sizes to choose from - 8" or 10", cupcake size and bite size. It's a good cake for a special occasion.
The donut display case that looks like a coffin catches your attention first. I wasn't sure if this is just for Halloween or normal. Turns out the theme is horror movies and the donuts have appropriate names like S'Mores Stalker and Rocky Roadkill. It reminds me of Voodoo Donuts in Portland. In spite of the strange names and toppings they taste great.
Such a sweet bakery that caters to the gluten-free customer. In fact, even people who are not gluten tolerant have enjoyed the treats I've brought home from Pushkins. Everything is fresh and pretty. I highly recommend this place for those with a gluten allergy. You can even special order cakes :)
I have been sooo pleased by the customer service and results from this Bakery! I have asked for custom designed cakes for several years of children's birthdays and they have gone out of their way make super cool, vibrant and special cakes for my kids' big days!
Service is absolutely acceptional! The employees are very kind and welcoming. I bought a few pastries and they were very fresh and rich. Perfect. It's a great friendsly enviroment for a coffee or lunch date. I highly recccomend TreyBcakes.
Estelle's used to be located at 901 K St. but I've heard that they are moving close to the new Golden1 Center. It has wonderful French pastries and coffee and tea. I'm not sure when they will reopen but look for it in the coming months.
This is amazing bread. You'll never eat supermarket white bread again. They have wonderful whole grain varieties as well as sweet breads such as cinnamon swirl and banana. They also specialize in cinnamon rolls and a variety of cookies.
Great salads and sandwiches for lunch. Soups can run out if you get there late. This location is a little smaller than the others in the area, so be prepared for a tight fit while waiting for your food.
