This restaurant is one of the most unique and wonderful places I have ever come across. I am a regular at this place and see dozens of people all the time that I know come in more often than I and have probably heard three complaints in two years, including the previous review's writer. I watched the entire scenario play out. This woman and her friend arrived and asked to be seated outside, the most requested area of the restaurant. Being a Saturday night, this was hard to work around since she had made an INSIDE reservation. The owner was clearing tables as quickly as she could and the host was handling the seating, but this woman seemed convinced that she was being ignored. I walked inside later to find her saying horrible things to the owner about how she was such a awful business woman and did not care about the customers. I have never seen anyone so rude in my life. After stomping back out to her table, she whined to the waiter about needing a steak knife for her tenderloin, which is unheard of at this place. After the other owner came out to see why she could possibly need a steak knife, she sheepishly admitted that she did not need one. The owners work as hard as possible to make everyone feel important and leave happy and are some of the nicest people I've ever come across. This woman and her friend made the servers and other customers uncomfortable for hours. I received a chilling glare when passing by to take an important call on the sidewalk. At the end of the meal, the owner took her bill off the table and kindly asked that she not come back as she upset so many people. She argued for almost an hour about how ridiculous this was and continued to contradict herself as she lied about what she had said earlier in the night. She grew angrier and angrier and when she finally left, outside customers actually CLAPPED. Her server absolutely did not get fired, or even reprimanded. It looked like all she wanted to do was impress her friend...
I brought my friend from CA and was excited to try out the restaurant. Unfortunately it started out bad and got a lot worse. When we got there we waited 15 mins for someone to come seat us (we had a reservation). The owner was busy chatting with customers and cleaning up and never acknowledged the now long line that had formed. Finally I flagged down a waiter and we were seated. That is when it got worse. We never got the water we asked the owner for, they gave our meal to someone else causing us to wait almost 2 hours for our dinner and was also offered someone's meal. At this point, we couldn't take it anymore so my friend complained to the owner. She apparently was completely offended since her husband came out and told us that the bill was covered and asked us to never come back since we upset his wife! What??? On top of that, we suspect our waiter might have been fired. We explained it was not the waiters fault. We just expected the owners to perhaps apologize for the delay in getting our table, the wrong food, and forgeting our water? Needless to say, we paid our bill and overtipped the poor waiter that had to deal with such awful bosses. We will never be back.
Good atmosphere, great wine, but the food tasted like it came out of the frozen food section of the grocery store. I had the 946 Crab Cakes and my date had the Turkey Meatloaf. They were both pretty bland and seemed to have the same non-descript sauce on top. We expected a lot more for the prices charged. We won't be back.
The candle lit tables and old brick walls create such atmosphere! The food was delicious! We had the Roast Tenderloin and 946 Crab Cakes. The Smoked Portobella Soup (served with grilled bread) & Tomato Havarti were a perfect start to our meal. The Wine List has over 40 wines. We had a bottle of Merlot from South Africa ($36) which was very reasonable for a restaurant with entrees from $13 to $32 ! For dessert we had the Big Chocolate Cake and a glass of Port. Great place to dine and have conversation. The music was background, so it wasn't loud!
Can't wait to go back. Looking forward to trying the Pacific Salmon and Chilly Shrimp! And the Big Chocolate Cake!!
We requested the music be lowered three different times and it never did happen. Also, we had to ask for refills on iced tea and Cokes. Wine list by the glass averaged $9.00 per glass, which is a petty high price for this restaurant. No bread or rolls served with the dinner either.
I do not plan to go back.
