Yummy, tasty food for everyone. My 2 yr old loves the asparagus and paella and my husband and I love many dishes and the sangria. The Catalina bread is quite good, too.

I had high hopes when we entered the restaurant. My MIL was given two gift cards and wanted to give Stella a try. My husband made reservations in person and bought two more gift cards immediately before we went in to dine (pay $25.00 for a $50.00 value). The owner greeted my husband when the gift cards were requested and told him "I think we're out of that special." However my husband mentioned that he called Stella earlier that day and was told that they had more available. The owner “magically” found more in the back. After my husband paid for the additional gift card the owner handed him his change and (knowing he was there to dine that day) said, "Those have a 24 hour activation period before they can be used." My husband didn't say anything but thought it was HIGHLY unethical not to notify him of the restrictions BEFORE his money was taken. But no big deal- my husband and I planned to use them another time. The atmosphere in the restaurant was quite nice, open with a crisp yet comfortable décor. Shortly after we were seated (a group of seven) I went to the ladies room and overheard the owner berating the hostess for seating us at the wrong table. “What is the problem with you? Why don’t you get that right? I told you to seat them here.” I can only assume he was speaking of us because we were the only seated customers (there were others standing at the bar). Our waiter was patient in explaining the menu and our food arrived in a timely manner. Unfortunately only one person in our party was actually happy with their entire meal. I ordered the Stella salad and the fish and chips. It was literally the worst salad I’ve ever had. The entire salad was room temperature, the lettuce had started to wilt and turn brown, the tomatoes had begun to wrinkle and it was swimming in the salad dressing. I wonder if the large amount of vinaigrette was put on to conceal the sub par quality of the produce. The fish was light and flaky but the breadcrumb coating was sweet. It was edible but strange. The warm rolls we received after being seated were fantastic. You know there are problems when the bread is the best part of your meal. When the bill came my mother in law was told that only one gift card could be used per visit. My MIL asked for the owner who reiterated the assertion that only one could be used. He claimed that every customer is told that rule when they purchase a gift card (which was NOT true when my husband purchased two from him a mere three hours earlier) and he also blamed the person who had given my MIL two of the gift cards for not telling her about that restriction. My MIL asked to see that restriction in writing anywhere (on the receipt, on their website, etc.) but the owner snickered and said that he didn’t have to show it in writing because HE was the owner and HE was telling her the rule. He said that if he accepted gift cards for an entire bill he would go out of business. Perhaps he should have thought that through a little better. My MIL eventually prevailed but the owner was completely obnoxious. We had to wait outside with the two young children so they wouldn’t have to see and hear it. The owner even claimed to have called the police. It was without a doubt the WORST restaurant experience I have ever had. He was unethical from the start and the experience went downhill from there. The irony of it all was that although my husband was told that the gift cards he purchased immediately before our meal would not be activated for 24 hours, they were used to pay for our dinner without a mention or a problem. He tried to scam us in the hopes that we wouldn’t use the gift cards that day and he would have our business twice. No freaking way buddy- never EVER again.

I went to this restaurant about 5 years ago and I really liked it. The food is very Thai and very good. I have returned 5 years later and found the place to be just as good as it was before. They have a liquor license with a nice selection of foreign beer. I would recommend it to anyone. It is right on Rockville Pike and is easy to find.

I love Japanese food. It is especially healthy and light in oil and the portion control is just the right amount to allow you to try different dishes. I grew up in New York City, aka the mecca of diverse cuisines, quality and at times, great bargain prices... Therefore, I know how to eat and I know quality when I see and taste it. My hobbies involve traveling around the world to try different foods and I have been to all the major cities in the US, always stopping in local restaurants to try their specialties. A friend introduced me to Sushi Oishii. It is a new restaurant right near the University of Maryland in Rockville, MD and within the Traville Village Center where there are several large businesses as well as residential complexes. The center itself is very quaint. The place is new and ready for someone like me, new to the DC-Maryland-Northern Virginia area, to explore. As I entered the restaurant, a young lady who happens to be the manager greeted me. Although young, she is extremely intuitive of customer's needs as she told me she grew up in the family business. Her greeting is in Japanese and I hope it meant 'welcome' since I don't know Japanese. The entrance foyer is beautifully decorated with a bamboo matted bench and a Japanese water garden with a small cascading waterfall and green vegetation. A chalkboard wall displays the specials of the day. They often have fresh blue fin tuna, oh-toro and live scallops. The restaurant is not very large but large enough for several large parties with many tables to spare. There is also a good size sushi bar where you can watch the sushi chefs prepare your maki, sushi or sashimi with attention to detail in the cut and the presentation. Just a quick note on the tableware and utensils; there is no bamboo chopsticks to break apart. The utensils are all of good quality wood or ceramic and the tables and chairs are of genuine dark wood. It does make you feel that the owners are into quality and attention to detail. The menu is simple with a variety of selection in different categories from bento boxes to sushi and sashimi and udon noodles. Since I wanted to try the quality and freshness of the fish and to sample its tempura, I decided to order the lunch bento box sashimi special. The sashimi is fresh since I did not have a fishy after-taste. The sushi was just the right size to eat in one bite and held up without breaking apart. The tempura was lightly battered and not oily which is hard to find. In many Japanese restaurants, the tempura is overly battered and oily which meant they did not use the proper technique and used 'dirty or used' oil. My companion had the vegetarian sushi bento box. For a Japanese restaurant, it has a good selection for vegetarian. We finished our meal with Green Tea Mochii that was delicately chopped into 4 pieces. This was similar to many Japanese restaurants that I have been to. However, the happy ending was the Japanese Fried Ice Cream. It looked like a fluffy round tempura, which I think is what coated the outside of the ice cream. Inside the tempura battered shell was a layer of angel cake. This was smart as it prevented the ice cream from melting onto the tempura shell. The core was, of course, ice cream...a large enough scoop of sesame ice cream for two. We had hot green tea to wash everything down. The green tea was not pre-made but from tea bags. I guess that ensured the consistency of the green tea flavor for each cup. Service was decent since we took up the manager's time asking her questions on the quality and her family business. The waitress was attentive when we were not speaking with the manager. Overall, the quality, food and service are top-notch and should meet the standards of the food connoisseurs of the Rockville and DC area. Stop by Sushi Oishii in Rockville, MD and give it a try.
