I cannot give a review about the doctor as the receptionist is one of the nastiest people I have had the displeasure to speak to over the phone. Refused to make an appointment because our insurance wasn't familiar to her even though they are listed as providers. When I called back the next day after confirming with my insurance that they did indeed take our insurance she just said, "Well, we take some and don't take some so no appointment." I wasn't wanting an appointment even before I called the second time I was just wanting to let her know that they lost a potential client. Nasty, mean and rude lady on the phone tells me that there are probably other reasons to avoid this office. Oct. 2016, so hopefully she gets transferred off the phones and they bring in someone that doesn't drive off business

I had a basil cell carcinoma removed yesterday by Dr. Phillips. Both Dr. Phillips and her assistant (I apologize for not remembering her name) made my experience as positive as possible. They were both warm and friendly, explaining the procedure and answering my questions. I whole-heartedly recommend this facility and, more importantly, the staff here for anyone needing this kind of procedure. Jim Bath

Dr. Carolyn Clark, MD
Dr. Clark is a phenomenal physician. She is always pleasant and puts a smile on my face. She is very thorough during examination and takes time to listen to my concerns. She has a tireless work ethic and exhibits compassion for her patients. I would recommend her highly.

John F Zimmerman MD
Dr. Zimmerman had horrible bedside manner and did not introduce himself before examining me, on the two occasions I saw him. He did not take my conditions seriously and minimized the difficulties I was having. He actually asked me why I couldn't do things physically that I didn't have the answers to (I.E why I came to the hospital). He refused to examine my ears because his scope wasn't on him and he did not want to go get the device. He shared no insight into my physical condition and did not take time for my questions. I have seen several of his partners at Internal Medicine with good experiences and have never been treated like this before. I would not recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Dewey James Bailey III, MD
I've been to Dr Bailey for over 3 years and the quality of care has diminished significantly. Extremely long wait time, rude staff and no vitals are ever taken. Dr Bailey is very friendly for the 3-5 minutes you get to see him. Quantity of patients over quality of care.

READ THIS ok since very young before the age of 4 i have had no vision in my left eye. i hate eye dr.s more than dentists. due to the fact i have been to every eye specialist practically in the state of n.y and in the Stanton and Harrisonburg and also newman and blackstock all in the area in va i have been seen here locally by eye care n surgery . i gave up on specialists .they all had traumatic things to try.:( so i been at wall mart n national optical now for a few years. i do not care about any negative review on here because this eye dr .brought tears to my eyes today i sat in his office and cried as he gave me a hug to tell me it was ok. in hundreds of specialists n thousands of eye apts. in my life . patches special eye glasses traumas. this man put a contact lens in an eye i see nothing out of but light and i can see out of it.for the first time. now this is a 2 part review because at the strongest strength in office i do not see clear out of it but i can see figures colors shape . he is ordering a different much higher strength to try to see if he can do what no dr has ever been able to do or thought to do ! and give me sight. if this works i will add a part 2 to this review. it was most weird almost scary to the point i literally cried because it was a sensation my body never saw! i am in shock that this regular eye dr thought trying what no others thought possible. do not go by negative reviews because i believe you must see for your self. i have never been so impressed! thank you dr shelton.i had lost any hope but today was the first day i ever thought mabye they have all made a mistake and should have tried the most obvious! if this dr. can do what after today i think he may be able to it is a mirical because i have struggled to function in life and work for 42 years . some things are so hard to do . others i have mastred because a lot of people are shocked when they know i have no vision in my left eye and am legally blind in my right. and i have struggled to be normal my whole life with this. none of these dr.s can say anything i have said is untrue. because it is 100% the truth i am not an employee or a fake person i live here in roanoke. excited waiting on lense . update this soon! :) carry

I wasn't aware this dr had a reputation, but I can certainly see why. The visit was just awkward. I can't say he's a bad doctor, but I never felt at ease there. Then he kept pushing Walmart Brand's Equate at me, which for a lower cost- why not? But then when I had issues, I ended up having to call the office 2x to get a simple answer which I did not like not to mention, I had someone else's name in the folder that they gave me after my visit which is major HIPAA. Would not recommend.

Tips & Advices
This depends on the center. Some may allow brief visits by family members. Patients should ask about visiting rules before inviting people to stop by.
No. Patients should arrange for someone to drive them home and stay with them for 24 hours following the procedure.
This depends on the procedure. Most centers ask that patients arrive one to two  hours before the procedure begins. Following the procedure, the patient will stay at the center until fully recovered from being sedated. This may take between one and three  hours. After that, if the patient isn't experiencing abnormal pain, he or she may leave.
Different states have different rules regarding requirements for surgery centers. However, ASCs are required to be certified as a Medicare and/or Medicaid Ambulatory Surgery Center supplier before they enter into an agreement with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The most common types of procedures conducted at surgery centers are:
  • Gastrointestinal
  • Ophthalmology
  • Orthopedics
  • Pain management
Some of the most common procedures include:
  • Cataract surgery
  • Colonoscopy
  • Pain injections
