Don't dare waste your time and money. Used to be a great gym. New owners are snobs, think they are to good to speak to us. Used to be everyone knew the customers by name, knew our goals etc... Not now. And all the equipment is at least 20 years old. They snuck in a new fee of 30 bucks without telling us first, foe new equipment. It has been 5 months. Not one piece of equipment has shown up. More breaks everyday. Class schedule changes on a whim, with no notice. The new owners have screwed us all and ruined a perfect perfect place to workout.
The owner's are very difficult! They are very nice when you are signing up, then refuse to talk to you or return phone calls when you have questions or need to get out of your contract.
There are many other gyms in Richmond and I would choose one of them.
I do not recommend this gym. My husband and I hadn't been for a while due to health limitations. We have just now canceled and it has been a huge headache. I sent a certified letter canceling our membership. It was signed for, but they didn't have it in our file. I faxed it; they never received it. Finally had to hand-deliver it. They did not return phone calls. They drafted our bank account, when they were specifically instructed not to. We missed the fun of the new owner taking over, but my experience over the last couple of months leads me to believe that it has been a disaster. They made up new rules, but didn't bother to contact all their clients about them. The owner is hardly ever there and she doesn't return phone calls. There is no managerial staff. So of course you get a different story with every new person you speak with. Just stay away. Go somewhere where you don't have to sign a contract. These people don't care about you at all. [One star rating only because there is no option for no stars.]
Don't try to cancel. We were pretty satisfied members of the RAC who went there at least 4-5 times a week (even through the management changes which negatively modified our gym experience), and had a pretty decent relationship with the guy at the front desk we saw every morning. When we closed on our new house August 26th, we went back and told him we'd be leaving October 31st since we wouldn't be living near the RAC anymore. He completely neglected to mention that we'd have to fill out a form 30 days in advance of leaving, until October 5th, which meant that our membership would run through November 5th, charging us an ENTIRE additional month for a service we couldn't even use. Needless to say, I was outraged. I called and talked to numerous staff members trying to get them to work with us, but they were completely unyielding. But the story gets worse! Not only did they charge us for November, but this month (February), I get a phone call and a letter from them saying that we owe them for January when we have paperwork clearly stating that we canceled in November- I'm fighting it, but it's a clear indicator that they don't have their house in order. I've even called multiple times on the same day and no one has called back, every time I try to talk to someone that can help me with this issue, I leave a message and get nothing for my trouble. Be wary of this gym- they don't care about their members, just about the bottom line, and they'll do whatever they feel they can get away with to get it.
