  • Jeff McDonalds request for New Trial
    Janet Brown Lane

I was lucky enough to work with Dr. McDonald at St. Mary's Medical Center in Long Beach California back in the mid 70's. I was shocked when he was initially arrested as I truly believe that he would under no circumstances be capable of murdering his beautiful wife and the most darling daughters. He was a Green Beret, so knows the ropes of war, but that is different. Shortly after his arrest I joined the Army and was stationed on Guam where I closely followed his case.
I have to this day letters that both he and his lawyer wrote me during the initial arrest and trial; followed by appeal after appeal, and when I heard that he had been sentenced to three consecutive life sentences it was beyond my comprehension and belief.
I contacted his lawyer, in 1979 during an appeal stating that I would gladly be a witness for his defense. I worked with Dr. McDonald daily for several years and he was the most compassionate, caring and knowledgable doctor I have ever worked with. He was my mentor for over 3 years. I know in my soul, my heart and all that I experienced with him as my boss, that there is NO WAY on God's green earth that he would ever cause that kind of harm. He was a healer and took his oath of ""First do no harm"" very seriously.
I hope that he will win his new trial as soon as possible, and finally get the justice that he has so long awaited.
His being incarcerated for so many years left Long Beach without one of the finest physicians I have ever known. He did NOT kill Collette or the girls, that I am truly sure of.
His life has been destroyed for what......In my opinion, this is one of America's greatest injustices EVER.
I would be happy to share what I know of him, and none of my knowledge or experience points to a cold blooded killer. I have followed this case since the day he was arrested in I believe 1974 and will stand in my truth forever that he did not kill his family.
Thank you for your time and please follow this through as this man has suffered more than could ever be fair or just.
Working with him daily, I have many stories of his love and compassion for all patients that he treated and his talent as a physician.
If there is anything that can be done by someone bigger than me, his new trial should be granted today and NOT in a few weeks or months. I would to this day testify on his behalf. I still believe that ""truth will prevail"", a quote he wrote to me from prison over 30 years ago. The time has come.....He deserves what is left of his life back.
