A friend gave us a gift card to celebrate our anniversary here. The setting is elegant, quiet and well suited for a quiet dinner for two. Service was very attentive. Bottles of wine on Mondays are half off! We had the 3-course special dinner. The sand dabs were excellent and generous in portion. The T-bone steak, although thin, was cooked rare as ordered. The side dishes were average. Only complaint is that meal felt rushed-would have liked more time to savor the wine before and between courses.
I have been enjoying this wonderful place for 25 years. Never a bad experience ever. They get it. The seafood is excellent and always the best. Things have changed over the years, but they still are one of my favorites. Yes, this place is not inexpensive, but to get quality seafood in Northern Nevada, it is worth it 100 percent. The service is always personable and attentive. The atmosphere is always casual by elegant. Just Perfect/
Rapscallion has always been a favorite for locals ... and a welcome get-away for tourists who want to escape the often boring hotel/casino restaurants. Both wait staff and kitchen staff are very responsive to special requests, and take great pride in making the dining experience ""tailor-made."" (NOTE: for a quiet, ""private"" dinner for 2 - 4, reserve in advance and request a ""cabin."")
Having been a Rapscallion devoté for 25 years it is disappointing to realize that my most recent visit is my last. The paring down of the menu, the substantial reduction in the wine cellar, the increase in prices and down-sizing of portions are a lethal combination.
Wells Avenue has also been struggling with the downward spiral of the neighborhood, and there is cause for concern about walking near the restaurant after dark.
While Rapscallion STILL has the best selection of seafood in town, there are better ways to spend time (and money) while in ""The Biggest Little City in the World!""
We choose this restaurant to celebrate our 29th Anniversary based on many recommendations from friends and published reviews of the restaurant.
We ordered the Sunday night special Lobster bake. The lobster was a soft shell lobster and extremely over cooked to the point of being just mush. The vegetables tasted like they had been sitting in hot water for an hour completely tasteless and watery. The potatoes were so over seasoned they were inedible. The cheese cake dessert crust was soggy and unremarkable.
I have had better lobster at Red Lobster Restaurant .
Once again it is January in Reno time to make reservations for Valentin's day. reservations were made for one the the secluded cabins in the back of rapscallions. All went well we arrived an hour prior to dinner checked in and assured that our table was ready when we were. So we proceeded to the bar for conversation with friends prior to dinner. five fifty came and it was time for dinner just before we headed back to the mater""d a regular walked past us and was greeted be all of the staff. So we were greeted by the mater""d and started walking toward our table to find that the regular was just seated in our cabin. after being asked to sit in the foyer for about 20 min. we were told the only table available was next to the south entry door we reluctantly took the table but after sitting their for about 5 min and getting blasted by the cold night air every time someone entered or exited we left. We were not offed any compensation for our being displaced I personally will never enter this establishment again. And this comes from a 20 year Reno resident that loved coming to this establishment both sitting at the bar as well as dinning.
25yrs ago outstanding, 15-20yrs ago excellent. last 2-3 yrs mediocre. always was med/expensive. service is still excellent. if you are a non-smoker might have problem, as the bar customers "smoke", unless law change effected same. i haven't eaten there in last 6 mo. when food was better i ate there 1-2 weekly.
My hubby and I just ate at ""The Rap"" and it was great. We're locals but just tried it for the first time. We ended up eating in the bar/cocktail area, and the service and food were just as great in there as any 5 star restaurant, and it was fun! I had the crab stuffed monkfish and my husband tried the filet with asparagus and garlic mashed. Everything was superb. We also had the escargot (appetizer) and carmel custard (dessert) and they both were to die for! All in all, the ambiance, food, service, wine, and everything else were fantastic. Go check it out for yourself, you'll love it!
This is a very fine resataurant. The extensive menu, attention to detail and presentation of meals is fantastic. The atmosphere is quaint, relaxing and cozy. The chef is great, innovative sauces to test any pallate. You can order anything on the menu and rest asuured it will be to your satisfaction.
A must try atmosphere, I loved my Mahimahi rice pilaf, dinner, with artichoke dip. I had a lemon drop martini, and my girlfriend and I chilled out on the patio, soaking up the beautiful sun rays. Ecellent atmosphere, wonderful food. Highly recommended for locals and tourists.
Thanks for the wonderful experience.
