Frontenac Boarding Kennel
10/23/2012 DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR DOG TO THIS BOARDING KENNEL!!!!!!! We recently had a trip to Cancucn, Mexico. I emailed the owner of the kennel using the web address listed on the kennel website to ask if there was an opening and how much notice that i would need to give in order to reserve a place for my dog. He responded he would need to weeks notice. 2 weeks before my trip i called to confirm an opening at the kennel. I spoke with Joe Ellingson, he asked what time we would arrive and i told him between 8:30-9:00am. He said he would write us down for 8:30am. The morning we were scheduled to leave for our trip we went to the kennel early. We pulled in the driveway and I went up to the house and knocked on the door. No answer. After about 5 minutes of waiting and knocking, I returned to my van and drove down to the kennel building... knocked... no answer. I could hear a dog thrashing around in the building kicking around an empty metal bowl. I drove back up to the house and knocked again. At 8:32 i called Mr. Joe. NO ANSWER. I called again...NO ANSWER. I went back up to the house and knocked harder ... NO ANSWER... I returned back to my vehicle and called again at 8:37am...NO ANSWER. I called one last time and left a message. The message on his phone states "This is JOE.... I paniced because it is the morning of my trip and i am sitting with nowhere to leave my dog! I called information and got the name of another kennel in our area... which was full ....I had to search around and finally found a very nice place to keep our pet. God must have been looking out for our beloved pet that day because i have heard NOTHING but horror stories about this place since!!!! Not once the day we left nor ever did we receive a call back from JOE throughout our entire trip.... I emailed him with a YOU SHOULD NOT RUN A KENNEL OR HAVE THE RIGHT TO CARE FOR ANIMALS letter to which he apologized for any inconveince he may have caused... Inconveinience!?!?!?! I would be taking him to court for the cost of my trip today had i missed my flight due to his inability to run a business. Not only did he not show up, he lied in his email reply to me stating he was at the kennel at 8:15am which he clearly was not, he also denies ever receiving a phone call or message. Why would the phone say this is JOE?????? I am so thankful that he did not show up that dog is like one of my children and from what i have read and heard this place is NOTHING BUT A HOLE IN THE GROUND SCAM!!! The other kennel owners in the area have told me they have also heard horrible things from other people this man has burned. His wife used to run this business.... they are divorced and HE HAS NO IDEA HOW TO CARE FOR ANIMALS!!!!!!! All i can say is DO NOT.... DO NOT .... DO NOT... TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS KENNEL!!!!!
Tips & Advices
Pets that do not get along with other animals may incur an additional fee. Some facilities have special solitary sleeping and play animals for these types of pets.
A checklist for what to bring to a pet kennel includes:
  • Vaccination records
  • A favorite toy or blanket
  • Food and feeding instructions (if the pet has dietary restrictions or is a picky eater)
  • Medication (if necessary, in its original bottle and with written instructions)
Some pet kennels have veterinarians as part of their daily staff, while others only have vets part time or on call.
Most kennels can provide basic care such as administering medications, but owners of pets with serious medical issues should choose a facility with a veterinarian on call.
Bordetella, commonly known as kennel cough, is highly contagious, and most dogs catch it at least once in their lifetimes. As such, all dogs should be vaccinated at least 7 days before boarding.
